Stephen Goodwin
Was watching the video of Shayne Singleton's and his viewing on how he's been treated following John O'Donnell's late withdrawal on the Haye bill..
http://linkis.com/www.youtube.com/bOLgw
To me it sounds snide and a lot of people left out of pocket...
Goodwin likes to come across as a good guy but sounds snide as f**k from that video...He was sorting the undercard and O'Donnell is his fighter...

Re: Stephen Goodwin
I was not the promoter of the event. Our job was to match the undercard. We had no financial interest in the promotion. Shaynes manager Steve Wood is fully aware of this and has no issue with me.
O'Donnell was our fighter and this fight was made when the origianl undercard fighter Billy Dib puppled out. He was due to fight Jamie Speight (one of my fighters). When this bout was cancelled Speight was taken from the bill exactly the same as Shayne was. Jamie was very disappointed but accepts that as the "opponent" it happens when the home fighter pulls off.
We were then asked to find a new 10 round fight and we matched O'Donnell with Singleton only for O'Donnell to pull out the Wednesday before the event.
From our end that was it.

Couldn't you have found someone to replace O'Donnell with Steve ? To give Singleton's fans a show ? London- it's your manor. I think you could have stepped in here !

We were not the promoter of the event and not our decision. This is January when Championship level boxers are not in full training and to get someone in 24 hours to do a 10 round fight I think would have been impossible anyway.Black Sam Bellamy wrote:Couldn't you have found someone to replace O'Donnell with Steve ? Its a same for Shayne but the same happened to Jamie Speight 3 weeks before.
As I say I had no say in the promotion.

He pulled out with the flu on Wednesday lunchtime. I immediately rang Shayne's manager Steve Wood and put him in the picture.jizzle wrote:So what happened to your boxer John O'Donnell...?

Re: Stephen Goodwin
A ten rounder could quite easily have become a six rounder under the circumstances, and I think Singleton and his fans would have taken that. The least you could have done under the circumstances. It's not your promotion but you've been asked to provide an undercard. If you didn't feel duty-bound to find Singleton someone, then you should have done !stevegoodwin wrote:We were not the promoter of the event and not our decision. Re: Stephen Goodwin
We were not instructed to find a replacement. We provided what we were asked to do. When you are working for a promoter you do what you are instructed to do. We have no mandate to arrange fights for a promoter that we are not asked to do. If Singleton had pulled out the same would have happened to O'Donnell and it happened to Speight 3 weeks before.Black Sam Bellamy wrote:A ten rounder could quite easily have become a six rounder under the circumstances, and I think Singleton and his fans would have taken that. Thankyou mate. I feel genuinely gutted for both Shayne and Jamie Speight.maley1984 wrote:stevegoodwin wrote:We were not instructed to find a replacement. We provided what we were asked to do. Re: Stephen Goodwin
Did you explain to haye how many tickets shane sold and that the ethical thing to do would be to at least put him in a 6 rounder for the sake of his fans? If so what was Hayes reasoning behind saying no?

It happens virtually every show including TV ones when a home fighter pulls off and the away fighter does not fight.Black Sam Bellamy wrote:BBBoC should be looking at this. Absolutely disgraceful when people are getting nothing for their hard-earned in situations like this.
I cannot say anymore than I have so I wont comment again on this thread but am happy to answer any questions should someone DM me their number.
Re: Stephen Goodwin
Agree...Shayne has been shafted here and so have his fans who have not had the chance to have tickets/hotels refunded...Black Sam Bellamy wrote:BBBoC should be looking at this. Absolutely disgraceful when people are getting nothing for their hard-earned in situations like this.
Oh well at least everyone stuck to their deals

But you were the match maker so surely you had contact with haye? When the fight fell through surely you spoke with him and asked him if you could set up another fight for shane due to the amount of tickets he sold?? All I am asking was his response. Nothing to do with Steve wood.
Re: Stephen Goodwin
Exactly, the reason he didn't bother was because John O'Donnell is his fighter who pulled out late (and suspect) so Shayne and his fans could go swing for it...Bad formrio wrote:stevegoodwin wrote:Steve Wood is Shayne's manager. Sounds like Steve did everything he could from his end.
Re: Stephen Goodwin
I think Steve Goodwin has explained the situation well and don't think the fault lies at them.
It is very unfortunate and a shame for Shane but as others have said it happens.
Re; refunds why couldn't Shanes fans get refunds wasn't he offered he chance to send his tickets back (as would usually be the case).

As I understand this is the cause of the problem - created by those involved in the promotion.
Shayne and his team took the fight , a British eliminater at very short notice ( 2weeks I believe ) . No tickets given to the boxer who's fans had to purchase tickets via the box office or associated websites.
Singleton has a decent loyal number of supporters who then paid for tickets , travel and accommodation etc but his opponent Odonnell , pulled out at extremely short notice ( 3 days)
These fans had no interest in the haye farce nor the poor undercard on offer. They are stuck with tickets they no longer want .
This would have been a decent scrap - probably the best of the night
IMO The very least the promoter should have done was to find a late replacement for a singleton - even a six rounder. No doubt an opponent would have been found had it been a late singleton pull out.
Singleton, his team and his support deserved much better.

I don't think fighters got any tickets all had to be through the promoterste1983 wrote:I think Steve Goodwin has explained the situation well and don't think the fault lies at them.

Ah didn't know that, as your say the promotion should have at least got him a 6 rounder if poss (although not always possible and where do you draw the line is it only an issue if the fighter with a following gets took off the card? Away fighters get shunted all the time.
The promoter should have at least then made some sort of concession for fans to have a refund directly from the box office.
Steve Goodwin has pointed out that he was not the promoter, the buck stops at the door of those two guys Haye worked with to promote it in my opinion.

Re: Stephen Goodwin
Goodwin was only the matchmaker.
No one goes after the matchmaker for explanations regarding pull outs, refunds etc.
This particular show was all about Haye. The undercard only existed to satisfy Dave, they needed something else to show when Haye stopped DeMori early.
Its unfortunate that there were pullouts, but these things happen week in week out and can be forecast.
Steve Goodwin has provided a more than reasonable explanation. Credit to him for that. To carry on going after him just shows why most promoters, match makers etc do not come on forums and also highlights the naivety of some fans.

I agree. Seems a bit harsh for a promoter to get stick for a show where they're not a promoter.CharlesListon wrote:Goodwin was only the matchmaker.
