He hasn't fought anyone. And I mean no one. Until he has I don't know how you can make that statement. Let's see him fight someone inside the top 100 first.rhino222 wrote:briggs...although old, although slower than in his prime.....will pause a threat to most of the top ten. the reason being that the heavyweight division is relatively poor at the moment.
briggs can punch and the majority of the top ten have questionable whiskers. klitschko, fury, haye, wilder...etc etc
i think the public deserve one more look at briggs in anger, in a decent fight, against a top 10 opponent....to know if he can cause a massive upset.
i refer to his career....has he still not fought anyone? the last thing you lose is your punch, or dont you believe in that old one?Dixonian wrote:He hasn't fought anyone. And I mean no one. If he beat someone in an eliminator I wouldn't mind seeing him get a chance but the fact he's been chasing everyone and anyone relevant and trying to talk his way into a big fight rather than work his way in suggests he's just after a payday IMO. The tanking he took against Vitali was pretty horrible to watch and that wasn't yesterday.rhino222 wrote:i refer to his career....has he still not fought anyone? the last thing you lose is your punch, or dont you believe in that old one?Dixonian wrote:He hasn't fought anyone. A few of hia opponends after Vitali were around rank 100 actually.Dixonian wrote:He hasn't fought anyone. And I mean no one. Until he has I don't know how you can make that statement. Sorry you're right. He fought Vitali 6 years ago and Sultan Ibragimov two years before that. Lost both. This most definitely qualifies him to fight a world top-tenner.rhino222 wrote:i refer to his career....has he still not fought anyone? the last thing you lose is your punch, or dont you believe in that old one?Dixonian wrote:He hasn't fought anyone. The only one I can think of is possibly Zumbano Love. Who took him the distance. And we know how bad he is.asdfjkl wrote:A few of hia opponends after Vitali were around rank 100 actually.Dixonian wrote:He hasn't fought anyone. And I mean no one. I even think that old saying is rubbish, plenty of big punchers carried on and struggled to knock people out, Joe Louis, Tyson and Herbie Hide are good examples of that. Briggs is a joke, he had little success in his prime so I can't see how he is any better aged 44. He's after a big pay cheque that's all, he should try expending all the energy in beating someone half decent first and then maybe the bigger fights will come.Dixonian wrote:Also, yes the last thing to go is your punch.rhino222 wrote: i refer to his career....has he still not fought anyone? the last thing you lose is your punch, or dont you believe in that old one?

Yes why risk getting spanked for little money when you can get spanked for big money !!Dixonian wrote:Precisely, is that too much to ask?Controversial wrote:I even think that old saying is rubbish, plenty of big punchers carried on and struggled to knock people out, Joe Louis, Tyson and Herbie Hide are good examples of that. (Answer: Yes it is and that's why he's trying to get a title shot by shooting his mouth off instead.)
Well, let's get real, Briggs is higher ranked as David Haye for a reasonDixonian wrote:Precisely, is that too much to ask?Controversial wrote:I even think that old saying is rubbish, plenty of big punchers carried on and struggled to knock people out, Joe Louis, Tyson and Herbie Hide are good examples of that. Yes the reason is Haye had 3.5 years out the game. Rankings are a joke, jeez the IBF champ is someone most fans hadn't even heard of before he won the title. Who has Briggs beaten since losing to Klitschko in 2010? Its a pointless fight for Haye, he would smash Briggs in a round or two and get criticised for beating a 44 year old whose had 2 fights against nobodies in the last year. One of the guys Briggs beat last year was almost 49 !!!!asdfjkl wrote:Well, let's get real, Briggs is higher ranked as David Haye for a reasonDixonian wrote:Precisely, is that too much to ask?Controversial wrote:

No offence, but Zoltan Petranyi and Raphael Zumbrano love are both ranked higher as Mark de Mori...Controversial wrote:Yes the reason is Haye had 3.5 years out the game. Haye wasn't going to fight them though was he. AJ had already flattened Zambrano and Petranyi was coming off two knock out defeats and is aged 49. On paper de Mori was the far better opponent than them two clowns, their rankings are irrelevent. Also who can blame Haye for an easy fight after the injury and time out he's had. What makes you think Briggs is such a good fight for Haye?asdfjkl wrote:No offence, but Zoltan Petranyi and Raphael Zumbrano love are both ranked higher as Mark de Mori...Controversial wrote:Yes the reason is Haye had 3.5 years out the game. Who says Briggs is that bad? Haye simply hasn't proven himself to be that good.Controversial wrote:Haye wasn't going to fight them though was he. Haye is more than capable of smashing his way up the rankings and he won't need old man Briggs to do it. He'll get tons of stick for beating him up anyway and won't move far up the rankings as a result (although rankings do work in mysterious ways).asdfjkl wrote:Who says Briggs is that bad? On paper Haye is an absolute nobody at this moment, yes partly because he hasn't been active for 3,5 years, but really, what has Haye proved more as Briggs has at this point?
Why would any top contender fight Haye and not Briggs?
They are really quite equal at this point, perhaps not in the ring, but they certainly are on paper.
I've already suggested Ortiz, a boxer that does have the skills and ranks, but can't bring in the money because his fans got no money, but Haye doesn't seem to want to fight him either. In other words, Haye can't fight top contenders, the subleague can't offer anything for Haye and neither the other way around and behind that you'll find Shannon Briggs.
David Haye once talked himself into a match, but he's basically a cruiserweight that wants to beat the heavyweights, but can't.
For me Haye seems to be just after cash and nothing else.
Any top 30 fighter can easely avoid David Haye because he's too low ranked, so Briggs really isn't such a bad option.
Somehow Haye seems to wish to avoid that option and wishes to become the new Briggs himself.
Because Briggs hasn't beaten anyone decent in years. If anyone wants an easy fight and had to choose to fight Haye or Briggs I'd put money on Briggs being picked everytime. Haye's goal is a world title shot and the only way is to get up the rankings as quick as possible, beating a 44 year old Briggs isn't going to achieve that. Watch how slow Briggs was in his last fight, he's just a loudmouth meathead who is past his best and trying to get one last big pay day before retiring. Go through Briggs record, anyone he has beaten in the last 10 years Haye would beat even easier.asdfjkl wrote:

You beat me to it, yes I saw him on the bags the other day, shocking.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Looking at the last clip I saw of briggs hitting the heavy bag, he appears to have absolutely zero gas in the tank, he looked exhausted after about 10 seconds.
He's just a roided up former name now looking to cash out.
