With all his talk beforehand I think DeGale overlooked Medina last night. Not the correct mentality going in to a world title fight.

Degale calls Medina the 'worst mandatory challenger ever' at the post fight press conference

My thinking too, he always goes on about working the hardest in the gym but DeGale has never once fought 12 rounds without needing rest rounds. I think he'd do well with the Ingle's with his style.

worst mandatory yet DeGale couldn't stop him?
"your face looks worse than his" haha, DeGale getting sassed by the media.
James DeGale is a tit and so is that little stuttering troll Jim McDonnell for constantly trying to feed him lines...

Degale isn't as good as he thinks he is. He would have probably won a decision like that over Medina if he'd fought him a few years ago too. Look at his fight with that Euro level Polish guy who had him wobbled and gave him a very tough fight. He didn't beat Dirrell by much, the knockdowns were the difference that night to be honest. The Bute fight was very close. He probably deserved a draw with Groves. Overall, he's very very overhyped.

Dirrell is a top level fighter, dropping him and beating him away from home doesn't warrant criticism imo.
Not what I was asking either tbh.

I thought it was pretty wide to be honest.Yes Medina was game but he was chasing shadows really.De Gale did his usual coasting taking things for granted, but even so still winning the rounds.I don't mind his cockiness to be honest it's another type of character in boxing imo.,the only thing I did have a problem with wad pulling the faces in Medina's face at the final bell.thought that was unnecessary.he will be too quick and movement too much for Jack.He beats Smith aswell where I think he raises his game and concentration for a stronger opponent.

i had degale winning by a couple rounds. Degale seems to regularly do 'just enough' to win, after dominating early. He's in very entertaining fights and i believe him when he says he wants to fight the best.
I do think he's got to embrace the bad guy role a bit more. Its made for him.

Just watched this one and had degale by 3 .
Just wish some one would grab him by the nuts an tell him to stop the stupid antics it's stopping him from being the good fighter he should be.

I had it 117-111 Degale. He walked the first five rounds, the way Medina hardly landed a punch until the sixth

At least Kell has the decency to obliterate his substandard mandatories.
I thought Degale barely won this fight, 2-3 round margin.
That being said, i would still make him a favourite against Jack, I had Jack/Bute fight a draw.
I dont think Jack has the workrate or physical strength to give Degale the problems Medina did.

Degale won the fight, but he slipped back to his old ways of of covering up on the ropes, to take breathers his opponent threw a lot of punches, but most hit gloves.

I was thinking that Medina would be a good first challenger for Gilberto Ramirez, but then I noticed that Ramirez already knocked out Medina in 6 when the latter was unbeaten.
I think Ramirez, Jack, and Degale are right around the same level, and it's good to see a case of top fighters unifying (I lean slightly toward Degale--Jack's style isn't the type that's best to exploit Chunky's lazy spots). Smith looks very promising and may well do the business at the highest level, but I'd like to see him fight someone better than Rocky Fielding before I get too confident about his abilities. Incidentally, people went crazy because he iced a guy that went 12 with Chunky, but Medina also went 12 against Chunky despite being stopped 3 other times, with 1 of those losses being to 40 year old Yori Boy Campas.

He was, and the strange thing is I thought the same watching it early in the fight. For a guy called porky, Medina suddenly looked teak tough unstoppable, like he was carved from granite. Interesting to hear the baffled DG say how this guy has suddenly changed. Suspicious I would say, I mean come on, in Mexico the guy can take whatever he wants and is not going to be no tested....if a man needs an edge to get a $1 million payday..
DG is a huge talent, but his mind drifts and he was so sure he was going to knock this guy out he made it very hard for himself. His Fight tactics often seem off the cuff and made up on the spot.
