Canelo does not have the movement or hand speed to get away from GGG's constant pressure and I feel it's going to be one of GGG's easiest and fastest wins in awhile. I don't get why people HAVE to see this? Who cares?

Personally, i'd love to see GGG take on Jacobs. Jacobs has the size, speed and power that will hold up much better. I think that fight would be fantastic. GGG taking on a WW? please. Not a great fight.
I think it's got the potential to be an absolute barn burner, I can see it going the way of Hagler v Hearns.

Perhaps.

But Canelo is PFP number 7, according to the Ring.

Besides Ward or Kovalev, who are 2 divisions away, i don't see any better matchup for Gennady.

The fight makes perfect sense.

And Canelo's defense and ring generalship shouldn't be underrated.

The fight should happen now. They're clearly the 2 best guys at the weight. When obvious fights like this don't happen, it helps push boxing farther into nichedom.
It is absolutely not clear that Canelo is #2 MW. Lemieux, Saunders and Eubank Jr could beat him.
Canelo is much better than any of those guys, especially Lemieux. Lemieux got really overrated at some point. He literally has 1 decent win in his whole career.

Canelo is the one who got really overrated. He should have 3 losses or 2 losses and a draw.

I assume you're talking about Lara and Trout? I thought the Trout win was close but uncontroversial. The Lara fight I scored for Lara by a couple points, but it could have been a draw.

Canelo is overrated by BoxRec (which has him as the #1 MW) because he's gotten a lot of overly favorable scorecards, but I don't think he's super overrated in general. He will beat any MW but Golovkin, IMO. It's far and away the biggest fight to make in the MW division. Not making it happen is a real "screw you" to the fans.

Canelo hasn't even beaten a genuine MW yet, so it's hard to be sure. Lemieux is tough and hits harder than anybody that he would have faced to date. Would be a potentially tough night for Canelo even if he won.

Speed and movement can trouble Canelo. Lemieux doesn't have those tools, he would get beat up. Canelo is already bigger than most MWs, which is why it's so irritating to hear him use the "I'm not a middleweight" excuse.

Lemieux would be just as big as Canelo, and would hit back hard.

If Canelo goes at it like that, he won't last beyond the 3rd round

As for Canelo-GGG.... if i were the promoter or Canelos manager i think 2017 makes most sense.
September or October of this year makes the most sense.
Not for Canelo. He's not fought at the weight yet. His problem is he is sitting on a belt which is something of a farce. If i'm his trainer than i want him competing at 160 first.. maybe vs a guy like Saunders before GGG.

As for Golovkin... his star power hasn't peaked yet (althoigh i understand it might not improve without Canelo).
It doesn't really matter that he hasn't fought at 160 yet. He and GGG are the same size. If anything Canelo is a little bigger, and will weigh more on fight night.

yeah i take your point, but his recent resume reads:

Trout
Floyd
Angulo
Lara
Kirkland
Cotto
Khan

All of whom scaled in between 152-155. I'd imagine Kirkland was probably the biggest in the ring, maybe talking in the mid-low 170's. Khan and Floyd are welters really.

Golovkin by comparison has spent his entire 35 fight career at the full 160 limit. A weight Canelo hasn't fought at.

If i'm Canelo's coach, i'm going to be looking at him thinking we are going in with 1 of the best middleweights ever (imo) at a full weight class above (with the exception of 1 lb)... I would want my guy to adjust, to take a fight or 2 at the full 160 limit against guys are good sized middleweights.

You're not telling me that a 155 fight against Khan is good preparation for Golovkin. Ideal preparation for Golovkin is someone who hits pretty damn hard for the weight. Lemiuex maybe.

That's because Canelo likes to have a size advantage or some other obvious advantage. Even if he fought Lemieux or Saunders he'd probably fight them at 157 or some sh*t so it still wouldn't give him any better preparation for fighting Golovkin .

Golden Boy is just trying to postpone the fight as long as they can hoping GGG starts to slip as he gets older. They know they can't beat GGG as he is right now.

I'm a Canelo fan and we are all lucky to be able to watch him come from nothing to a borderline elite boxer. He's fantastic for our sport but he's just in an awful spot right now. This fight is all wrong for him and the timing couldn't be worse because he's on the doorstep of taking Floyd's throne over. This is why Oscar and GB should have seen a couple of moves ahead with this one. They should be ashamed of themselves. They grabbed the low hanging fruit by opting for a shot, old Cotto and the MW belt. Cotto was already getting beat up in interviews about not fighting GGG left and right. GB painted Canelo into a corner by making that fight happen.

Did you see the video of GGG congratulating Canelo inside the ring after that fight? GGG had to lean down to whisper into Canelo's ear. What people don't realize is that Canelo is no way 5'9" as he's listed. He's not even 5'8". GGG is almost 5'11". For some reason, people keep saying they are the same size and body type. When that bell sounds and you see these two finally close up, you will be surprised how much bigger GGG is than Canelo.

Golden Boy is setting Canelo up for a career damaging beating in this one and he's not going to get over this one easily.

Following your logic, 5'4" Khurtsidze should fight at lightweight. Yes, Golovkin is a little taller, but Canelo is wider. They are the same size.

GGG is a couple feet behind Canelo and the photo was taken shooting up at an angle so you didn't prove anything. Khan's 5' 8" and he seemed a couple inches taller than Canelo. Cotto is 5'7". There's no way Canelo is 5'8". People see GGG and Canelo as looking eye to eye in the ring for the fight. It's not how it is gonna be.

Why are you so preoccupied with height ? If something is important, it is a reach. Size is about a muscle weight.
