With the Fury v Klitschko fight currently up in the air it's very possible we're going to have some vacant titles and with that some 'soft' champions so that's not that far fetched.

Obviously we have to see what he's like in a pro ring first and foremost.

If the titles become vacant and he goes with Eddie, he could get one of the titles within a year and will be lined up for a huge all British unification fight, as long as he can get past Dillian Whyte.

Cheered him on in the Olympics like crazy, but realistically he is not going beyond domestic level without serious improvement. He'll be starting older than Audley did - how'd that work out?

Confusing turn of phrase.

I agree with everything lillywhite says, especially the bit about being able to supplement his income. I actually think he'd be a lot more famous if he won gold in Tokyo than he'll ever be as a pro. GB's Stevenson. Unlike most boxers, he has the sort of personality that goes down well with casuals (people forget, but Harrison was very well-liked in 2000).

But as a pro? McGuigan if he stays, else straight out to the US. Allen, Sexton or similar as his first opponent. I know that sounds steep for a debut, but if he doesn't have the talent to get past that level early doors then he won't reach elite status. If it were me, I'd want to know what I had in my first year, not spend my first ten fights smashing the bargain buckets out of KFC diners. He goes Fastcar and that's his menu, with Joshua chipping in hype.

What the fck are you lot talking about?

The guy looked total dog shit. It showed up how awful the standard is when that chap got a silver medal, the same as Riddick Bowe. He stumbled around like a piss head, flailing and missing and getting blocked, wide open to counters which snapped his head back, limited defence, no plan, no jab, no textbook movements and chin is suspected to be shite.

But couldn't you level that criticism at most of the fights in this Olympics with the new scoring system? Almost every fight i watched was people whaling at each other with limited defence. It was open scoring too so in the case of Conlon and Joyce they knew they weren't winning and so the only choice they had was to go on the front foot and try and get the other lad out of there. Every time I saw Joyce he was beating the piss out of people and he is likeable. With the right team behind him maybe he can do something and I would like to see it.

Fair point. I think he looks total crap though. A flailing limited slugger but lacking in a real smack. I heard him compared to Foreman and I see the lack of skill and the whaling away comparision but it was fine with Big George as his power is one of the best in history.

George was a lot more skilful than people give him credit for. He was very good at cutting off the ring, and a very accurate puncher too.

Well, yes, obviously that as well, but then so was Shavers, and he never achieved what George did.

George also had a very good set of whiskers on him, especially on his comeback. Phenomenal punch resistance.

Yes, Foreman, sort of like Krusher perhaps, Marciano too, looks kind of crude but at the same time evidently knew exactly what he was doing and was highly effectively doing it. Having life mangling power was a bonus too.

Comparing Joe Joyce to him is beyond wishful thinking.

I never did - he isn't really reminiscent of Foreman at all.

Ali said that when he fought foreman, his original plan was to dance and move, but he very soon realised that George was no dummy, and he kept closing the ring off, so he elected to throw lead rights and draw the fight out of Foreman, in the hope he'd tire him out.

I think Joe Joyce should stay amateur, Nicola Adams style, or retire and find a new line of work, perhaps as a curator. He would be wise to put any money he makes from his silver medal towards a house deposit.

I don't see him making it as a professional boxer. He's a gentle giant without any mean streak, and in a pro ring someone's going to run through a nice guy like him the way they did Pele Reid, Audley and Price. He'll take a lot of punches in training, a lot of punches on the way up, and then in my opinion get upended before he's making money. Wind up with a scrambled head and empty pockets.

Yes I think Toby pointed out someone in the media had made the comparison. It's ridiculous. Even someone as supremely evasive as Jimmy Young nearly got himself decapitated versus Foreman in round 7.

He needs to get going quickly whatever he decides to do.

I'd see him signing with matchroom
