Build a career for Joe Joyce
Build a career for Joe Joyce
So the likeable big ol' Mummy was pipped at the last hurdle by the cocky frog. He's too old to come back at the next Olympics and now is his chance to earn some good money and become the housewive's fav in the pros.
Who does he sign with? Does he go with camp Eddie- is being part of the same stable as Joshua a hinderence or an advantage? What about Fwank? Meaty Mick? Does he start out fighting at Bluewater?
Who should he train with? Mckraken is out of the question surely as he is with Femi. Adam Booth? Shane Mcquigan? 'fornicate' Joe Gallagher? Develop some interesting acne with the Fury's? Or go to the US, find a 'star' trainer and quality sparring?
How should he be moved? The traditional Latvian bin man to shot old domestic once were contender to shot old once were US contender to shite young fat American contender ala Joshua, or does he have to go deeper earlier, considering his age?
Is he marketable? He's seems a genuinely nice lad, the 'humbleness' that irritates some people on here about Joshua's persona here seems real and unforced. He is a little bit awkward and shy in some of his interviews. Will he just be a little bit too nice and kind to really sell? How many times can they show him painting? The nans and kids will love him. He has to be sold right. Joyce being rapped into the ring by Stormzy would be ridiculous. I'm sure he would crush the head of most 'street thugs' but he cannot pretend to have that persona himself.
I'm really behind the kid and so long as he's moved right maybe he can achieve something here. What do you think?

Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
At his age he needs to make progress quickly and build on the olympics exposure. The only route is surely with Matchroom.

Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
He definitely needs a trainer who can work on his defence and some variety in his work, what he does works well in the Olympics, where volume wins fights, but he'll get decapitated fighting like that as a pro.
His work rate is admirable, that alone will be enough to get him quite a long way, plus he seems naturally athletic, and moves very well for a guy who is 6' 6". I love the body punching, but it will be very predictable if he doesn't add more to his game.

He'll go to matchroom and rightly so.

He will get mullered as soon as he fights someone with good power who can deliver straight punches down the middle.
Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
Agree, haven't seen a well schooled heavy amateur with proper natural ability for ages now the last was probably Lennox Lewis or maybe Audley harrisonTheLeprechaun wrote:He will get mullered as soon as he fights someone with good power who can deliver straight punches down the middle.

Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Chinny fighter with slight name value who's lost his recent fights....
There's the plan for his first 10 fights.

lets hope that its a winning formula - the guy deserves a decent wedge

We all know how it will go - first 2 years / dozen fights against opposition lower than he would face in WSB.
Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
even at this stage you can tell by his body type and how he moves that he will struggle against decent pros much like price has who also had an awkwardness about himbripez wrote:Beat me to it !littlepug wrote:why ?aliboy123 wrote:lets hope that its a winning formula - the guy deserves a decent wedge

You're probably right but he's 30 just now so they will hopefully try and fast track him in to a British title fight at least. I won't hold my breath though. He'll have a few fights on AJs undercards (providing he signs with Hearn) and then they'll start feeding him a few of AJs leftovers no doubt.gilgamesh wrote:Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Chinny fighter with slight name value who's lost his recent fights....

Not sure how your figure that, Joyce is mobile and relatively quick.littlepug wrote:even at this stage you can tell by his body type and how he moves that he will struggle against decent pros much like price has who also had an awkwardness about himbripez wrote:Beat me to it !littlepug wrote: why ?

Price is like a statue by comparison.
For a man of 6' 6" - Joyce moves very well indeed.
Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
I like the guy and his fighting style. But he'll need a chin of iron to succeed in the pro game. Unless he's managed really shrewdly like Joshua was towards the title.clopixolacuphase wrote:So the likeable big ol' Mummy was pipped at the last hurdle by the cocky frog. He's as fast as treacle poured down a mountain of tar. As mobile as a mobility scooter with the handbrake on.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Not sure how your figure that, Joyce is mobile and relatively quick.littlepug wrote:even at this stage you can tell by his body type and how he moves that he will struggle against decent pros much like price has who also had an awkwardness about himbripez wrote:

The standard in the super heavies was just awful.

The standard in the pro ranks is equally awful, - if you consider that Dererk Chisora was considered fringe world class.Dixonian wrote:He's as fast as treacle poured down a mountain of tar. Joyce was not that slow at all compared to a lot of current heavyweights.
Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
Well they'll still fast track in that all of these fights I mention would probably take place over the course of 1 year. You'll be seeing Joyce every month or two there for a while until they up his level of competition.Stuarty30 wrote:You're probably right but he's 30 just now so they will hopefully try and fast track him in to a British title fight at least. Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
Suspect it will be Matchroom and Fast Eddie will be secretly chuffed to bits that Joe got the silver rather than the gold....less cash up front for the signature and less rivals sniffing around as well. A nice and affordable heavyweight development project to have on the side.
Of course, Joe might surprise us all by just saying no thanks.
He's a bright lad, with a degree and options, but I still suspect it will be Matchroom and that Eddie will initially move him on fairly quickly to see whether he can cut it as a pro and (if he wins a fight of note) then ease him to a title fight.
I liked Joe and think he'll do ok.
He won't fly like AJ but at the same time he looks like he's got a pleasing style for the pros and might knuckle down, take advice and instruction early-on in a way that ultimately sets-up him better than the Audley model.

Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
Is he turning pro?
I fully expect all his contemporaries to turn over soon. Why not stay am? He picks up a decent wedge, has plenty of strings to his bow to supplement his 'paid for training' either by doing personal training or something else, and he becomes number 1 super heavy on the planet, favourite for the next big tournaments and can easily make the next Olympics, now the age limit is 40.
I'd like to see him turn over but I don't think he'll go too far as a pro ( when compared to his am record anyway, as it stands he is arguably Britains second most decorated Super Heavy with his worlds bronze and olympic silver )
Hrgovic is my tip for pro honours out of this crop. Yoka? Too soft for the pro game imo.

Joyce is mobile and relatively quick? No doubt he's very strong and has an impressive engine for a HW, but he's slow as fuckk.
The Foreman comparisons are apt.

Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
Yoka has some speed and skills, but he does look a bit soft. I know he's struggled with his stamina, been hurt loads of times, and even last year a cruiser-sized Turk knocked him out in an AIBA Pro fight.lillywhite14 wrote:Is he turning pro?

Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
With good management he could be world champ before he fights at domestic class
Re: Build a career for Joe Joyce
I'm sure I read that he said he's def turning pro after the Olympics. Saying he has to get a move on because he's 30yo etc...lillywhite14 wrote:Is he turning pro?
