Out of interest, who has he fought that could be claimed to be a good fighter ? Not that i'm being critical of what you say, but who is a stand out opponent that GGG has fought to date ?
It's not the quality of the opponents so much, as the way he's dealt with them. He's not come close to losing a fight yet, and has flattened even his credible challengers.

Hope im wrong tho.
Every single shot Golovkin throws is a hurtful shot, and he doesn't seem to throw many that are wasted either.

I think you'd need someone with a cast iron chin who was a great pressure fighter, or someone like Hearns to beat him.

The build up to Saturday reminds me of the build up to Nigel Benn to Gerald McClellan. Then, when the papers still bothered with boxing, all of them picked McClellan and were pretty much unanimous that it was going to be a brutal KO.

Kell has never been stopped and is an unknown quantity at Middleweight. The bookies' odds are probably a fair reflection of his chances- but he has a shot.

I thought Froch vs Golovkin would have been one hell of a fight with Froch having a good chin and a bit of size advantage. It would have been close in my opinion.

Brook, as good as he is, won't be able to keep him off. The size will be too much. You would need someone like a Froch to maybe stop Golovkin in his tracks. I just can't see Brook having the power to keep him at bay so he can get that distance to counter him.

I think Brook has the speed and timing and is probably one of the better counter punchers around but Golovkin looks like he will just walk through it all and bully his way to a stoppage. Brook will do well to last 6 rounds.

I used to be a regular follower of boxing a few years back and still cast my eye over the sport to see what is hapenning. I come from Sheffield and so have an interest in the Brook Golovkin fight. Realistically, can Brook win this fight ? Or doesn't it matter about the quality of the opponent, as Kell is going up two weights for the fight.

From what i can tell, Golovkin hasn't fought anyone of real note, but these days fighters with no losses and a goof knock out ratio seem to be hyped somewhat to get bums on seats. I see all this " baddest man on the planet " stuff and how great a fighter he is, but has he been tested against a real quality opponent or is there none out there apart from Canelo ?

Even if Golovkin is hyped, does the weight difference make the fighter a non starter for kell, because regardless, Golovkin must be good. Alternatively, can Brook win if he fights the righy strategy and uses movement, speed and accuracy, given that's not been affected by the weight ? Obviously a punch out isn't going to be affective, but can you see a strategy that will work or will it be another Khan vs Canelo situation.

Also will going up two weights hinder Kell if he is too eventually come back down to 147lbs

Thanks

He has a chance but I don't see how Kell will do it, GGG has heavy hands ! I got a feeling Eddie will convince Brook to cut to 147 and fight Spence !

Kell says he has never been so confident going into a fight.

Surely he must have fancied his chances more in March against Kevin Bizier than against GGG?

Thinking more about it, the only feasible way I could see Brook winning would be via a stoppage following a body shot - I've not seen GGG remotely shaken by a headshot, but thought Murray landed a few sneaky body shots which he did feel. Obviously it's extremely unlikely to happen, but I do think it's Brook's best chance.

Completely agree with the benn v mcllellan comparison. Does have a similar feel to it

In my opinion he's the best middleweight since Hagler. He's a defining win away from cementing that position (Canelo would be the one).

For upsets to happen of this magnitude the favourite usually prepares wrong mentally or physically e.g Tyson or SRR. Golovkin seems as strong mentally as he is physically.

The only person I see beating GGG at middleweight is Father Time and that's about 3-4 years away at the earliest.

If you haven't see him before enjoy Saturday. For fight fans he's as good as it gets.

Spot on mate looking forward to watching GGG box local UK time it was a pain staying up till 5am to watch a boring HBO card

Two huge differences between the two fights.

Firstly, McClellan was coming up in weight whilst Benn was established at the weight.

Secondly, Benn was a huge puncher which meant that he was able to get McClellan's respect after the torrid first round. Something Brook won't be able to do in my view.

Yeah, very strange comparison. Can you imagine Brook taking that first round onslaught? And Benn was a genuine middleweight (I know it happened at SMW). Golovkin is a much tidier fighter than McClellan too, I would love Brook to win but I just can't see how unless something unexpected takes place

With Brook's career and the injury it smacks of a cash out to me. I hope I'm wrong, I would love brook to pull it off but how can he? Honestly?

Of course he can, he could well catch GGG with some hard enough punches to open a bad cut for instance - that fight where GGG was cut and his eye was swollen shows he can mark up if the other guy lands enough, and with a roaring crowd behind him Kel could hit inspired form...its long shot, but it's there..

He hasn't fought a stand out opponent Quix. Porter for me is pound for pound better than anybody GGG has beat. I think the fascinating thing about this fight is we don't know how good,or otherwise, either man can be. We know Glolovkin is a terrific fighter and a beast, but compare his victims to Haglers and Monzons? You can't there is no comparison mate. He just LOOKS great. So does Brook. But I think the size will make a difference. We don't know that yet,but we might get some idea around one o clock today.
My feeling is Brook will have a bit of early success, may even battle on even terms for 3 or 4 rounds. Then GGGs strength and ability will push him back. Once Kell is on the back foot, which has never been his fight,he will take punishment and be pulled out of the fight. May even be facial damage. I don't use this forum much and have said it elsewhere, but those are my thoughts. Im fascinated though.

I think if anybody gets cut it won't be Glolovkin though mate. Said it on another forum, might even be to you. Hope Im wrong and Kell pulls it off. Not impossible but not at all probable for me.

My head says Golovkin wins - of course - but I wouldn't write off Brook to the extent many are, simply because there are too many unknowns.

Brook MIGHT transpire to be a beast at 160lbs. Strong, full of energy, good movement, timing and hard counter-punching. Its entirely plausible he will have the dig to gain GGG's respect and then its game on.

GGG MIGHT not be as dominant against a fighter of Brook's calibre. Brook is a good level above e.g. Martin Murray, Daniel Geale and David Lemeiux in my opinion so let's see if its a level sufficient to make a good fight of it.

Brook just MIGHT be capable of a hell of a lot better than people have seen to date.

Golovkin should win, but stranger things have happened....

Only one I can think of is Tyson/Douglas. But as you say, stranger things........ Thing is,look at the past and how many welters were BETTER at middleweight. Emile Griffith just might have been, but Im afraid good as he is I don't rate Kell as high as I do him.

Of course he can. Despite Golovkin being as close to a machine as you might get, he's still only human. Any man can lose a fight, no man is unbeatable.

Having said that, Kell's chances are very slim!

That's all based on one razor thin decision victory against porter? If Martin murray had his razor thin defeats against martinez and Sturm switched around and brook lost by a point, would you be saying the same thing or thinking brook had no right fighting GGG?

Think he meant the atmosphere or even the opinions of the match ups. Mcllellan was seen as a beast rightfully so at the time. Same as golvokin. Both had crazy power. Both could hurt you. Not many gave either benn or brook much chance.

That seems about as good an argument as can plausibly be made. Can't see past a bulldozer ko by golovkin though.
Only sliver of hope might be the home crowd advantage. We've seen strange things; mcclellan-benn, hatton-tszyu, robinson-turpin.
