Can Brook win ?
Can Brook win ?
Hi,
I used to be a regular follower of boxing a few years back and still cast my eye over the sport to see what is hapenning. I come from Sheffield and so have an interest in the Brook Golovkin fight. Realistically, can Brook win this fight ? Or doesn't it matter about the quality of the opponent, as Kell is going up two weights for the fight.
From what i can tell, Golovkin hasn't fought anyone of real note, but these days fighters with no losses and a goof knock out ratio seem to be hyped somewhat to get bums on seats. I see all this " baddest man on the planet " stuff and how great a fighter he is, but has he been tested against a real quality opponent or is there none out there apart from Canelo ?
Even if Golovkin is hyped, does the weight difference make the fighter a non starter for kell, because regardless, Golovkin must be good. Alternatively, can Brook win if he fights the righy strategy and uses movement, speed and accuracy, given that's not been affected by the weight ? Obviously a punch out isn't going to be affective, but can you see a strategy that will work or will it be another Khan vs Canelo situation.
Also will going up two weights hinder Kell if he is too eventually come back down to 147lbs
Thanks

Re: Can Brook win ?
of course he can win. Douglas beat Tyson. Its going to be an up hill struggle, I think 2 weights is a vast void to fill and cant see how anyone can jump up that far and beat a credible world champion.
Its a 2 horse race anything can happen but the odds are not in Brooks favour.

What's your opinion of Golovkin ? Good fighter ? Over hyped ? I notice you use the " credible ", which seems to suggest he doesn't deserve his title of being a " great " fighter, probably because he hasn't fought anyone of note ?mimmy123 wrote:of course he can win. Re: Can Brook win ?
Yes he can win! Odds are stacked against him but it's happened before and can happen again.
For me if he wins it's via an early KO or points.

No. Go lookin hits too hard and too often. He's hurt bigger men who are of a similar type of level to brook at middle ie belt holder. GGG has beaten a long list of good fighters. Brook has beat one very good opponent and a long list of stragglersJamieM wrote:No

I#ll hold my hands up, never seen him fight, but the opinion of many people is that he is a credible hard punching world championQuix wrote:What's your opinion of Golovkin ? Good fighter ? Re: Can Brook win ?
Greater upsets have occurred but Golovkin is a special talent, that rather than the weight difference which is minimal(both could make LMW) make a Brook victory unlikely.
Re: Can Brook win ?
I'd like to think he can win on points, but for that to happen, Kell would need to retain the same sharpness, movement and accuracy that he's had at welterweight. I think the weight will be a huge factor to overcome, regardless of whether Golovkin is a superstar in waiting or merely a decent world champion, that has yet to be tested.bigB wrote:Yes he can win! Re: Can Brook win ?
Out of interest, who has he fought that could be claimed to be a good fighter ? Not that i'm being critical of what you say, but who is a stand out opponent that GGG has fought to date ?freddydoesdallas wrote:No. Go lookin hits too hard and too often. Curiously, i think many will have a similar opinion to you. They've maybe seen the odd clips of fights, read some promotional headlines and thought " he must be good, cos everyone is saying it " ?mimmy123 wrote:I#ll hold my hands up, never seen him fight, but the opinion of many people is that he is a credible hard punching world championQuix wrote:What's your opinion of Golovkin ? Re: Can Brook win ?
Gale, munroe jnr, Lemieux, murray, Macklin and Stevens all stand favourably with most of Brooks opponents. They are all fighters I would say are good. Not saying they are the absolute top level but are all easily 'b' level and bigger than brook.Quix wrote:Out of interest, who has he fought that could be claimed to be a good fighter ? Jojo Dan, Gavin and Bizier are 'c' class at best and have all been a lot smaller than GGG.
Re: Can Brook win ?
Ive seen pretty much most of ggg's last 10 fight (or since BN picked him up). Man's an animal. Fair play to Kell for gettin involved and I will be on my feet roaring if he pulls it off, but my brain is saying the relentless barrage from ggg will take him down and out in the middle rounds. Hope im wrong tho.
Re: Can Brook win ?
Power, footwork, ring craft. Also his record is very good which some seem to be forgetting as a pro and as an amateur.Quix wrote:What makes him a special talent in yout eyes ? Re: Can Brook win ?
I watched the Curtis Stevens fight again tonight as Sky Sports Mix was showing it, and all I could think was that I just can't see how Brook can win. I suppose an early knockout is the only feasible way Brook could pull it off (no fvcking way he wins 7+ rounds to win on points), but Golovkin has never looked close to even going down, let alone getting knocked out.
Re: Can Brook win ?
Has he even been staggered by a shot ? lot's have caught him flush but he just seems to be made of granite !Boxerbeetle wrote:I watched the Curtis Stevens fight again tonight as Sky Sports Mix was showing it, and all I could think was that I just can't see how Brook can win. still wish Brook all the best and it would be a monumental upset if he won .
Re: Can Brook win ?
Yeah I agree. That's why i reckon he's bulked up. I've convinced myself he's going for it early, hard and fast and throw caution to the wind. Doubt it'll work. I've watched a lot of GGG and he barely blinks when tagged flush!Boxerbeetle wrote:I watched the Curtis Stevens fight again tonight as Sky Sports Mix was showing it, and all I could think was that I just can't see how Brook can win. Any man can be hurt if hit properly so that's Brooks only hope and even at that it still looks every inch the impossible task!
Re: Can Brook win ?
Yes. Of course he can.
Will he win is a different question .
Struggles past Carson Jones, eeks a win over porter, has 3 aesthetically pleasing wins over C level welters and all of a sudden he's a genuine threat to GGG, a middleweight wrecking ball.
Sky doing another good job of hyping up a fighter to sell ppv.
Can he yes
Will he.... I think he has less of a chance than people think.

Re: Can Brook win ?
Reading the article on BBC sport about GGG taking this fight more serious than any other (
) Brook's chances just went from slim to none.

Re: Can Brook win ?
I can't see Golovkin losing this.
In my opinion he's the best middleweight since Hagler. He's a defining win away from cementing that position (Canelo would be the one).
For upsets to happen of this magnitude the favourite usually prepares wrong mentally or physically e.g Tyson or SRR. Golovkin seems as strong mentally as he is physically.
The only person I see beating GGG at middleweight is Father Time and that's about 3-4 years away at the earliest.
If you haven't see him before enjoy Saturday. For fight fans he's as good as it gets.

Re: Can Brook win ?
Brook looks a bit more on edge at the press conference today. Suppose that's a good sign. He's been very relaxed in the build up.
Re: Can Brook win ?
Don't write him off, but it's very unlikely.
