I really do not know.

I really can not decide for years Gans or Duran. This is the only promise.

Well let's hope that doesn't happen Seamus.
I'm not particularly keen on points-splitting either, but I suppose on the odd occasion it doesn't do any harm.

The great Joe Gans was a terrific lightweight boxer. Historians said that he was ahead of his time.

To me, the great Ike Williams was the most underrated lightweight of all time. What a fighter!

I am a Beau Jack fan but have to begrudgingly admit Ike William was great . . .

Benny Leonard
Roberto Duran
Joe Gans
Carlos Ortiz
Tony Canzoneri
Henry Armstrong
Ike Williams
Joe Brown
Ken Buchanan
Packey McFarland

Not a million miles from the consensus top 10 on here.

There were the usual list of 10 names vying for a slot at the bottom of the list but I found this one to be fairly clear cut and probably one of the easier lists I've done

Lou Ambers was a name I knew would rank highly but probably would just miss out on my list.
He's not a fighter I've looked at extensively but recognise more from reading about other fighters.
No doubt a good fighter and many solid wins on his record but I felt his biggest wins were qyestionable.
The 2 names he fought that made most lists were Armstrong and Canzoneri.
He went 1-1 with Armstrong and it looked like the ref played as big a part in his success as he did (still legit as you can't just punch someone on the balls all fight) but it kind of detracts from the result.
Equally the Canzoneri wins, I've taken the down turn in results against Ambers, Zivic and McLarnin as an indicator he was on the slide in the mid/late 30s, the results got progressively worse.

I'm maybe not giving Ambers the credit he deserves, I know plenty rate him higher than I do, I'd love to hear the case for him ranking him 3rd

I always say that the Ambers most underrated fighter in the lightweight. I think it belongs in the top 10.

Well Lou is sitting comfortably at 9th, so he's still there at the moment.

Lightweight:

1. Roberto Duran (Manos de Piedra)
2. Benny Leonard (‘The Ghetto Wizard’)
3. Carlos Ortiz
4. Joe Gans (The Old Master)
5. Tony Canzoneri
6. Ike Williams
7. Battling Nelson (The Durable Dane)
8. Julio Cesar Chavez (The Tijuana Taxi Driver)
9. Lou Ambers (Herkimer Hurricane)
10. Rocky Kansas (Little Hercules)

Kansas is my ‘from the heart pick’ – took Leonard the distance three times (and lost once by TKO) – split with Tendler and PTS a fading Welch – if it hadn’t been Kansas it would have been Freddie Welch. Probably should be Welch but I want Rocky to get a point.

So our current scoreboard looks like this;

1st - 112 Benny Leonard
2nd - 111.5 pts Roberto Duran
3rd - 86.5 pts Joe Gans
4th - 57 pts Henry Armstrong
5th - 54 pts Pernell Whitaker
Tied 6th - 53 pts Tony Canzoneri
Tied 6th - 53 pts Carlos Ortiz
8th - 44 pts Ike Williams
Tied 9th - 22 pts Barney Ross
Tied 9th - 22 pts Lou Ambers

11th - 17 pts Packey McFarland
12th - 16 pts Joe Brown
13th - 11 pts Freddie Welsh
Tied 14th - 9 pts Shane Mosley
Tied 14th - 9 pts Julio Cesar Chavez
16th - 8 pts Edwin Valero
17th - 7 pts Esteban DeJesus
Tied 18th - 4 pts Juan Manuel Marquez
Tied 18th - 4 pts Ken Buchanan
Tied 18th - 4 pts Battling Nelson
Tied 21st - 3 pts Manny Pacquaio
Tied 21st - 3 pts Sammy Mandell
23rd - 2 pts Edwin Rosario
Tied 24th - 1 pts Alexis Arguello
Tied 24th - 1 pts Ismael Laguna
Tied 24th - 1 pts Rocky Kansas
Leonard and Duran still virtually still can't be separated for the top spot. Gans has settled in nicely behind them embracing the bronze position.
And after a pretty slow start, Homicide Hank has started moving upward.

Maybe you shouldn't update the scores - it opens the door for manipulation of the results. Just a thought, personally I like seeing the updates.
