Smith, Warrington, Saunders, Flanagan. None necessarily massive sellers but they all do more than Hughie.ElJefe wrote:I don't see this going to NZ as a foregone conclusion. IIRC didn't Parker's people have to apply for government funding to get the Ruiz fight? Sure I heard someone on the Boxing Asylum podcast say that. With the new BT deal and the possibility of having a heavyweight champion on his channel, albeit a relatively unknown one, Frank has a very good chance of winning this if he wants it badly enough. The arena and ticket sales would obviously be an issue and he may even end up making a loss on the event, but with his lack of big name fighters and no big signings seemingly imminent, Frank will have to make some long term investments if the content on BT is going to be anything other than the BN schedule on a bigger platform.
I emphatically agree. If he had no link to Tyson folk would be apoplectic about his feeble world title challenger credentials.liamlion wrote:I think i must be missing something with this match-up... How has Fury got a world title shot when he hasnt even fought for the British title or beaten anyone of note on the domestic scene?
He has only shown himself to be an average fighter against less than average opposition. He is actually quite boring to watch and lacks power.
He also clearly lacks charisma and this recent video suggests he is a little punch drunk too... All quite worrying really.

Warrington, in my opinion, has been a long term investment for Matchroom. Regarding the Matchroom and Warrington split, it seemed that Eddie wanted to make the big fights, but Warrington/his team were reluctant. That cow (the Leeds fan base) has been almost milked dry, Eddie even mentioned interest starting to wane. I'm not sure how much more building Frank can do, sink or swim time at world level now.dirk2686 wrote:Smith, Warrington, Saunders, Flanagan. I think long term investment is someone like Warrington. Proven fanbase, build up slowly, potentially very slowly.
I just don't see it happening with Hughie unfortunately. Nobody has heard of him. What sort of venue would he be headlining?

And I agree with you that Hughie wont be that big name as he doesn't have the personality or fighting style, but Frank has to find something from somewhere and if you're going to gamble on a purse bid to get a world champion, it may as well be a Heavyweight World Champion.
Of course it happened. Golovkin had a TV deal with HBO but they refused to broadcast his Monaco fight against that African dude. One reason that it was a wrong time slot. Pacquiao had to have a fight at 9 in the morning local time in China to satisfy American broadcaster. I tell you what has never happened though. Thats promoter coming up with any old shite, choosing any time slot he wants and broadcaster just agrees to it without having a say. That is inconceivable.jameswilson wrote:It's quite an assumption to say that a broadcaster won't going to a show a boxer belonging to the promoter they have a deal with. I don't know of any time this has happened other than when a promoter with another UK tv deal has won a purse bid over a rival promoter.Tarkus wrote:I dont have a deal thats why I said I was NOT SURE if they take it. It is you who made a definite claim what the deal means. So do YOU have the deal on you?
I think there's a danger of massively overstating the importance of this being a heavyweight title fight. Parker is largely unknown - a few may have picked up his Saturday morning fights but if they did, they won't have been that impressed. Hughie hasn't fought in nearly a year and his fights seem to go under the radar even when they're happening. You would assume, given there was talk of him and Tyson becoming a sort of UK Klitschko dominating duo that he would have been chief support to a lot of his cousin's fights, (in a similar way to the manner in which Enzo Maccarinelli would often be the final undercard sign off before some of Calzaghe's big fights), yet it doesn't seem to have happened. I don't think he even fought on the Klitschko card.ElJefe wrote:And I agree with you that Hughie wont be that big name as he doesn't have the personality or fighting style, but Frank has to find something from somewhere and if you're going to gamble on a purse bid to get a world champion, it may as well be a Heavyweight World Champion.

The Kassi fight was headliner at the copper box in his last fight.dirk2686 wrote:I think there's a danger of massively overstating the importance of this being a heavyweight title fight. Has he even headlined a card? I don't think the Guinn fight was even shown on television. The money involved just doesn't seem remotely like something which could be clawed back if he was relying on Hughie to sell out an arena. It's not Hughie's fault; from a promotional point of view I think he's been let down. But the guy literally can't sell out a leisure centre. Best bet might be to look at it from the point of view of Hughie getting a totally undeserved, winnable, free shot. Have the fight in NZ and if he comes back a champion great. If not, he can be built up again.
Since when do yu need great credentials to challenge for a world title?deadpan wrote:I emphatically agree. If he had no link to Tyson folk would be apoplectic about his feeble world title challenger credentials.
Aj got into America last week.Naandrew wrote:So the questions now can Peter Fury get in New Zealand ?
Will Fury pull out because of that ?
Will Hughie get a ban from UKAD which stops the fight ?

That might explain it. He shouldn't be punchy at his age....Kro wrote:He's a retard.liamlion wrote:This recent video suggests he is a little punch drunk too... All quite worrying really

Because Tyson is an absolute lunatic who listens to no one else.Kro wrote:That fallacy has been done to death; how would the mere presence of Uncle Pete in his corner have prevented him sticking his chin in the air and catching the overhand right that dropped him (a long standing issue with Tyson) ?Naandrew wrote:Peter has done two prison terms he couldn't get in America for Tyson Fury v Steve Cunningham and we clearly saw the difference that made in the fight.
Pete is not the 'Master Tactician' he's made out to be.
Despite being massively outweighed and the victim of a weak referee, Cunningham fought a really good fight, credit where it's due.
Pulling for Parker to be honest. He's a brave kid and has put it on the line and fought good opposition, in stark contrast to Hughie.DannyMCR wrote:In glad Duco won the bid, being in NZ it should go ahead on the proposed date

If everything they are accused of is true, the Fury's are mad self pitying bullying cheating bigots, mainly the family members that don't actually box. I actually think Tyson and Hughie are likeable in their weird way, but John and Shane and some of the other cousins just come across a horrible bullies and it'd be nice to see them taken down a peg or two. Hughie can learn a lot from a loss, too.
And Parker deserves it.
