If you gave me 42/1 odds like the Tyson-Douglas fight... I would bet on McGregor... I wouldn't touch anything less long than that, but he could win. You always have the chance to land that shot if you're a damned good athlete -- and you can hit like a ton of bricks.

The thing is, I didn't bet on the Tyson-Douglas fight and I knew it was a damned good bet -- because I didn't think BD would win... You can't think like that.

I'm surprised to see many here at this site saying that Mayweather will win on points. That's seriously underestimating Mayweather and overestimating McGregor. Realize that we're talking about a boxing novice (literally not a single amateur or professional fight) going up against one of the better fighters of alltime. I think it would be more likely that McGregor is struck by lighting ten times in a row standing in the same spot (probability of that happening less than 1 in eleventy billion infinite) than McGregor actually winning this fight. McGregor has no chance in a boxing match VS Floyd. There is no substitute for experience, and technical know-how that takes many years and many fights to accrue. Mayweather should be able to land at will, and I would be surprised if McGregor is able to land a single punch, this will show up immediately in the exchanges. It might as well be Mayweather VS Charlie Zelenoff. I could see Mayweather KOing McGregor well within the 1st round. That said, Mayweather may choose to carry McGregor and take the fight later. I would wager that many professional boxing "journeymen", amateur boxers, and debutants that could probably beat McGregor in a boxing match so long as they've been involved in the sport for a few years, nevermind one of the best boxers of alltime.

The only "chance" McGregor has is if there is some sort of agreement reached beforehand and the fight is fixed in a way that is not too disimilar from WWE Wrestling Entertainment when him and Floyd agree to an outcome. The other "chance" McGregor has is to use MMA tactics, though that will result in him getting DQ'd but in my opinion thats a better result than getting KTFO with the entire world watching. What would have made for an interesting fight, would have been one of MMA vs Boxing, where both McGregor and Mayweather could use their respective styles, and that truly would have been an unknown outcome.

Mayweather has received every single advantage in this fight, as he has for his entire career. The fight is taking place under boxing rules, in his hometown, home nation, and no doubt the officiating will be skewed in his favour like it was when Kovalev was recently robbed by Ward. McGregor has literally no chance, and Mayweather knows that, and that's why he has taken the fight. McGregor may be delusional, crazy, or unintelligent enough to actually believe he has a chance, but thats pure lunacy. McGregor, if he intended to actually make a fight of it should have made it Boxing vs MMA.

I understand McGregor is getting paid a lot for this fight, but you know, there is also an element of self-respect, pride, and class. Do you really want to be remembered as the guy who got knocked the fcuk out by Floyd for the world to see? Would that not be embarrassing? And is 100 Million worth it if you're already rich to begin with? His reputation will always be remembered as the guy who got KTFO by Floyd.

If I was McGregor, I might agree to the boxing terms but once the bell rings Id take Floyd down and make my own MMA rules. He'd get DQ'd, but its better than getting KTFO and having everyone and their kid brother see it for years to come.

Will the fight sell? Yes, it will be promoted heavily to casual and mainstream fans. As a boxing fan, I have no interest mainly because I don't consider it a boxing fight. I mean, youve got a guy who's never had an amateur or pro fight VS Mayweather? Really? How retarded is this sh1t? The promoters will rely on casuals and mainstream fans who honestly don't know anything about boxing and will pitch it as a fight VS the world's 2 best fighters. A lot of idiots who watch ESPN Sports Centre etc. will buy into it. So the market for the fight will be casuals who know fcuk all about boxing in the first place.

Mayweather sitting about 1/12.

Wouldn't even consider a McGregor bet until about 20/1.

You think McGregor would beat Floyd 1 in 20 times? Or has a 5% probability?
Not necessarily.. I said that's where I'd start to consider a bet...

I mean, the chance is greater than 0%.. I just don't know exactly where it is.

In terms of a gambling strategy: Not a fight I would wager on personally. Its a circus act and there are too many unknown variables to make a logical decision.

If its a legitimate boxing fight, and is not fixed and both fighters genuinely trying to win Id say Mayweather KO's McGregor in 1 or 2 rounds.

A good gambler chooses the right bets, but a great gambler is also aware of institutional biases, and can sense when a fix is forthcoming before it happens (ie realizing before Kovalev/Ward that Kovalev could only win that fight by KO as the judges were corrupt) and such (ie, understanding that fights are fixed, and judges and officials are corrupt).

I do get the feeling there could be some kind of a "fix" or "ploy", or other crap associated with this fight. Not a fight I'd bet on at all to be honest, just too many unknowns. It could very well end up as a NC, ND, Draw, DQ or some other bizarre conclusion. In the case of a no contest, draw, no decision etc., you lose! If I did bet at all on this fight, the safest bet IMO is that it does not go the distance, and even that.

I just wouldnt touch this fight as far as betting goes.

I expect this fight to end on DQ. Conor will not go silently into that night...

Best chance for Conor is to go at Mayweather full speed from the start. Try to overwhelm him with power. Boxers are not used to burning trough that much energy in the first few rounds. Non stop aggression with lot of wrestling. Bend the rules as much as he can. He will get some warnings and when he realizes he cannot win with boxing rules he will foul some more and get DQ.

Conor has a chance to win. But it needs to happen in the first couple of rounds.

Floyd via DQ

Conor will be DQed due to excessive holding, a headbutt, trip, etc.

Heck, he may even try to kick him or attempt a takedown if dazed.

So if Conor loses his poo and tackles Floyd to the deck and pounds him with an elbow, he'll end up in court on assault charges. Which he should I suppose.

Judge: "You are in this courtroom today to answer for the charges of assult during a boxing match."

Conor: "Your Honor. I was suffering a concussion after the second round. I don't remember anything after that round. I am truly sorry, but I cannot be held responsible for the knees to the body from the Thai plum that I employed during round four of our fight."

Judge: "Case dismissed."

In no way shape or form am I suggesting this is going to have any effect on the outcome as I am well aware that PBF is going to go to school on Connor. I am just curious really. Flloyd will have been nearly two years out of the ring come fight night. Does anyone know if he has been keeping in shape? I mean he certainly looks healthy and he has always struck me as a healthy guy. I believe he doesn't drink at all? But has he been doing any ring work or anything? Also do you guys feel he is likely to put in the same professional effort he has previously against all his other opponents or do you suspect he is going to treat this differently and maybe put in a bit less work?

Exactly. I feel the same way. All of these people thinking that CM is not going to even land one punch are ridiculous. CM is not the kind of athlete that is going to let that happen, he has too much pride. I think that once the fight gets out of hand, CM is going to get dirty and make it ugly. He's already prepping for it with recent tweets "Just tell us the rules" the other day. He'll play dumb and be dirty and that's his way to even things up in there.

Heck, Floyd couldn't get Maidana off of him for most of that fight and I guarantee that CM is better in the clinch than he is.

Floyd is a gymrat so I imagine he has been keeping in shape since the Berto fight. Plus, Floyd is much to professional to go into any sort of fight at less than 100%

I understand that but it's not like we are talking about a baseball player taking on Floyd from a completely different sport and set of skills. They are both fighters and Conor is the arguably the greatest striker in UFC history. People are acting like the sports are so different when there's a ton of similarities between the two. Most of Conor's fights never get to the mat and he's not especially strong in the kick game. So I consider him an above average puncher. Just saying...this is going to be a fight.

UFC isn't like boxing, the stances and footwork are different because you're defending against takedowns and kicks etc. There's footage if McGregor sparring, his footwork is amatuer level. It takes years to build the intricate skills you need to compete as a professional. This is like a hockey player taking on a top golfer on the basis he hits a small object with a stick.

Maybe, if it weren't Floyd. Once you couple the fact that they are different combat sports with the fact that it's the world class great who usually totally outshines even his strongest actual same-sport competition... It's not quite as bad as Wilt vs. Ali would have been, but an MMA skill set is going to lose so much in translation that I don't think McGregor will have ten seconds worth of highlights to cut together.

Nah man, it's not that different. If we were talking about an MMA fighter like Daniel Cormier (grappler) or Anderson Silva (kicks) then i'd agree with you perhaps. But Conor is where he is because of his hands and punching power. In fact, they just showed on ESPN that they measured the power of both punches from tape and Conor throws with more power than Floyd per cubic inch. That means nothing, i know, but it is kind of interesting to me. Conor needs to play dumb in this one and break the rules and make it ugly. He can always say "hey, it was my first fight so how the heck was i supposed to know i wasn't supposed to do that".
