Its funny because I'm more likely to bet McGregor @ 4/1 than Abraham at a higher price. That tells this clearly wouldn't be the biggest Upset in boxing let alone all of sports.

You're right because many millions more know this fight is actually happening than they did Buster and Tyson.
Fair point but even if you compare percentage of people who know of each fight. The percentage of people of each fight more would give think McGregor are more likely.
You think so? I don't. I can't find one boxing guy signing up for Conor winning this one. Back when Buster beat Tyson, many people heard, saw the tape or witnessed Tyson getting dropped in training camp. They also knew he was pounding asian ass the whole time he was in country for that fight. Some people felt Tyson wasn't ready for that fight.

Nobody outside of himself and his family thought Douglas had a chance to last 6 rounds. Though Holyfield did say that anything can happen.

See you saying Boxing fan, greatest upset in sports means no one from the biggest fan to the most casual fan has an opinion and all matters not just in the boxing world when you say the greatest upset ever meaning no one thinks they have a chance. Tyson probably wasn't ready for that fight but nobody picked Douglas.

My age? You seriously think that more people will watch Tyson Douglas than Conor and Floyd? Do we even have to argue this. Can't you just raise my hand and you say "my bad" please? Don't be ridiculous man. You drunk already? You're not even going to make it to the Pacman fight at this rate. Pace yourself dude.

I think you're underestimating the cult of Tyson. He was world famous in a way even Mayweather would love to be thought of. McGregor doesn't come close to that.

No no no...you and E1 need to get this one right. i'm not saying it's the BIGGEST upset, I'm saying that it will be the GREATEST. There's a big difference between the two. We all know where we were when we saw some of the greatest upsets. Someone referenced the USA Hockey Team and that was a great one. USA had better odds than Buster Douglas did but most people would agree that the Buster win didn't compare to USA beating the Russians in the Olympics. The funny part is that wasn't even the gold medal game, they still had to go on to defeat Finland to get the gold.
But with that said, Conor has to win in a spectacular way. Not by them going to the cards after a headbutt after 4 rounds or disqualification. It has to be a clear and present victory without any strings.

I was in my late teens during the Tyson big years and I know exactly how big he was. The issue wasn't Tyson, it was Douglas. He had no fans really and that's why they had to go to Tokyo to fight because it wouldn't sell any tickets here. No one wanted to see it here. I'd say Conor and Floyd have at least twice as many viewers. At least.

There's a lot of people who think Conor McGregor has a chance... Skip Brainless, who appears all the time with Stephan A Smith, states emphatically that Conor McGregor is the world's greatest fighter and has underrated boxing skills... If that clown can be so stupid, so can many millions of others...
As far as his training camp is going, McGregor isn't improving at the rate he needs to improve to win this fight...
He needs to concentrate on getting the balance, footwork, and jab right... Getting off the back foot and getting the defense right... Boxers have big gloves to hide behind so they come in and get you.. They don't have those small MMA gloves that don't afford protection.. They don't hang back on their rear foot like MMA fighters who get elbowed in the head and kicked in the legs.. Boxers come right in on top of you.. They go head-to-head.. They push you back and hit you.. Floyd has a tireless jab but he uses it with discretion.. He drives you back with lead hooks and jabs.. If he's head to head he works you. If he can't work you inside his referee will call "BREAK. STOP PUNCHING" and you'll start all over. If he can land a 100 jabs he keeps popping you.. Floyd won't use the elbow or forearm this fight because you're the elbow guy.
And it doesn't matter about the size and the weight.. De La Hoya weighed over 170 into the ring and it wasn't any concern.. Floyd isn't big but he's strong.. He's not a big puncher but his gloves are custom-made to perfection.. His hands are wrapped to perfection.. He can throw if he wants to and he won't hurt himself...not the way his hands are done right now.. You saw the Ortiz fight.. Ortiz can't box any better than you and Floyd put it on him.. The only blow Ortiz landed was that headbutt.. And maybe the kid doesn't have a chin but he was 160+ and Floyd put him out -- and the guy beat Andre Berto in the fight before and had a lot of pro fights.. Maybe you're like Ortiz because he just wanted to be paid his 5 million.. He didn't care about winning.. Because you don't seem to be trying real hard to get the boxers and trainers you need.. So this might as well be the Snake River Canyon Motorcycle Jump.

No way more people watch Floyd/McGregor than saw Tyson/Douglas. If it isn't age, you're just lost on the topic. Like 40% of people with HBO watched Tyson fights, now a huge fight caps at about 5%.
Though I must say that technology offers viewing to far more people now and I don't really know what watching fights across the world was like then. Obviously they would have had millions watching in Japan. BTW, they went there because Tyson was a massive star in Japan, not because they couldn't sell tickets. When he got there it was equivalent to the Beatles in their heyday.

If you speaking live I won't agree remember the live broadcast had to be smaller because of the time difference that could be a big difference.

The question wasn't would this be the largest upset in history as I could have looked up statistics to find that out and it wouldn't be much of a conversation. The question was would it be the GREATEST upset in history. So many more people will be watching this fight and tuned into the preflight 24x7 than they did for Tyson/Buster. A lot of people didn't even watch Tyson/Buster and found out the next day.
If Conor were to beat Floyd, Irish people would turn this world upside down that night wherever they were. There would be riots and craziness and I'd love ever second of it. I'd be Irish for a night.
The betting odds is a very reliable yardstick to gauge the severity of an upset, since it represents the general perception of the masses rather than your personal opinion.
Whilst it's clearly your prerogative to disagree with the opinions of the mainstream masses for the stats I've quoted, it's an undeniable fact that they held those beliefs prior to those bouts taking place...
Stay on topic or come up with your own post to discuss biggest long shots. Perception of bookies and deadbeats maybe...a small percentage of PPV buyers will bet on this fight and figure into your "reliable yardstick". Conor is backed and revered by millions more people than Buster Douglas had before and even after the upset. The sheer numbers involved with this moment, the intersecting of two different sports and their greatest current icons...it's not even close. This would be the greatest upset in sports.
My comments are on topic, because technically-speaking, a victory for McGregor wouldn't be "
the biggest upset in the history of sports".
In fact, both the thread title and also the first post in this thread, your claim is in the context of all "sports", not simply boxing, but this is factually and technically nonsense.
You may try to undermine my 100% accurate real-world portrayal, by claiming that my comments are "off topic", but this is yet another nonsense claim.
I not only remained on topic by directly undermining your claim, but I also cited evidence that accurately reflected the real-world general concensus.
That being said, I realise that it would be futile for me to attempt to persuade you to revise your opinion in light of the overwhelming amount of evidence that contradicts your thoughts, because you're more interested in trying to "win" and argument than to learn the reality of the situation...
Keep embellishing, kid.
