If he’s as ineffective as his social media detractors say he is then why do top fighters keep hiring him and then retaining him. They work with him every day , surely they know best.

A lot of boxers are fairly gullible and believe anything they’re told. That’s why the sport is awash with bullshit artists and shafted ex fighters.

Davison reminds me of the trainer in the Benn McClellan with the sailors hat on. Desperate for attention and clueless on the big night.

I think to compare him to McClellan’s trainer is a step too far, he was an absolute disgrace.

Was anyone saying Josh Taylor was gullible when he unified against Ramirez or that Wood was gullible when he leapt up to world level to defeat Xu after a career spent at domestic level ?

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t know the difference between a top class trainer and a guy holding the pads at my local club but I just get the impression that Ben gets a hard time from old school fans A. For being young B. For never having boxed and C. For being a bit gobby

He def has claimed he boxed, also Mark Tibbs said he first met him to talk about going pro.
However despite spending time in the gym, I can't say for sure that he actually had an amateur fight

I think plenty of us had concerns in the Ramirez fight. He was well on top & then Davison started telling him to box & move & he was losing rounds. He was acting surprised that the judges had it close by the end as Davison was telling him he was still winning the rounds. Taylor isn’t a back foot boxer.

I’ve never watched Can Xu before the fight & had no idea if he was any good or not but I thought he was awful that night. Just a stationary punching bag. Looking at his record I don’t think he’s had any world level wins either.

It wasn’t a victory like Burns over Martinez or Warrington over Selby where I was sat thinking he’s just beaten a really good fighter. It was only a few months earlier he got beat by Jazza Dickens. I think it’s more likely that Can Xu’s not all that rather than Wood suddenly becoming a top fighter.

Wood has always been a talent though. They used to rave about him in the Ingle gym. He was just unfortunate that he ended up on the shelf after been hurt & stopped by Gavin McDonnell in a fight he was looking a million dollars in.

I suppose we’ll find out a lot in the Conlan fight who is consider European, fringe world level.

Again I’m just playing devil’s advocate but in the Ramirez fight with Josh in a seemingly handy lead didn’t it make sense to tell him to stay out of harm’s way. Presumably Ben wouldn’t ask him to do something they hadn’t worked on in camp

Agree with you about Xu, I’d never seen him box but the fight was built up as some kind of David v Goliath clash which was clearly way wide of the mark. The Conlan fight should be a cracker, if Wood comes through that he maybe fights the winner of Warrington v Kiko for a real world title

Davison defends Kinahan vigorously on social media. He is the trainer at the MTK gym. Do you think there could be a link with Taylor stopping training with the McGuigan's?

They settled their court case with Carl Frampton recently.
The Belfast boxer was asked if that effectively meant that he won.

He replied: "I can't say that, no, but I can say I'm very, very happy with the terms of the settlement."

It would of been bad timing but the award is for last year so Taylor did deserve it but yeah it wouldn’t of been great
