About Ben Davison
I was shocked when Tyson Fury split with his longtime coach Peter Fury. He'll be training with little known Ben Davison. I didn't heard anything about it and maybe it's too risky for Fury who is a world class boxer.
Does anybody know if he's a good coach or no?
I don't think it's a good movement to split with Peter Fury.

Watch the Saunders-Akavov fight and make your own opinions about his corner work.
Fury wants a Yes man. Looks like he’s found one.

Re: About Ben Davison
He was dreadful in Paisley that night - Saunders was terribly out of shape and joined him week before the fight after splitting with Tibbs to be fair but he did look miles out his depth.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑14 Jan 2018, 06:37 Watch the Saunders-Akavov fight and make your own opinions about his corner work.

I got impression he was more PT/Fitness coach than Boxing Trainer.

Great set-up at MTK. Hopefully they get some experience in the corner for fight night.
He’s meant to be a good trainer though. But trainer and cornerman are two different things.
Tyson needs a disciplarian and someone he respects.
Re: About Ben Davison
After the Taylor/Catterall fight, it got me thinking. Of the guys that Davison has coached, which of them have got big wins with him in their corner? What about big losses? Has he got them big wins that they wouldn't have got without him and has he got them losses they wouldn't have got without him?

He managed to only get Fury a draw against Wilder.
Re: About Ben Davison
Obv Boxercise has an ego, but on this board many love to say someone is rubbish or amazing when the reality is most are at least half good.
He wouldn't have had the success he has had if he was so bad.

Re: About Ben Davison
Be interested to see him take an 0-0 to a world champ. If he can.
That is the true measure imo.

Re: About Ben Davison
I guess the question is, did he elevate any of those guys to the level required in their victories or just pick up where someone else left off? I haven't kept on track of who he is coaching but from those that I've seen, he's made them worse if anything.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑28 Feb 2022, 14:24joshj909 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2022, 13:40 After the Taylor/Catterall fight, it got me thinking. Of course he is known for taking on established fighters but does that make Shane Maguigan a bad trainer?joshj909 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2022, 16:21I guess the question is, did he elevate any of those guys to the level required in their victories or just pick up where someone else left off? And as you can see from his post he also has some professional novices

I think he’s done well with Leigh Wood. Mentally he was good for Tyson. I don’t think the guys who were with Shane (Taylor and McGregor) have improved with him and I haven’t seen improvements in Haney really either.joshj909 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2022, 16:21I guess the question is, did he elevate any of those guys to the level required in their victories or just pick up where someone else left off? He makes himself a target by talking so poorly about other hard working U.K. trainers.
I didn’t have an issue with him until the Billy Joe/Canelo fight. If he thought something then he should have whispered something to Tibbs out of Billy’s earshot. Having side conversations bypassing the lead trainer is just disrespectful.

If he’s as ineffective as his social media detractors say he is then why do top fighters keep hiring him and then retaining him. They work with him every day , surely they know best.

Jury is out with Boxercise Ben. He has had some good nights with his fighters, but outside of Leigh Wood his impact is unclear.

He sounds smart to the dumb.

fornicating hell the guy is a prick. Re: About Ben Davison
Hard to say how good any trainer is because sooo soo much depends on the fighter there working with.
Notable fights (for me)...
-Davis did well with Fury 1 i think. Fury coming of a bender to winning (should of won) 9 or 10 rounds is a good result.
-Did poorly with taylor, took him from a world beater to winning (should of won) only 3 or 4 rounds against catteral.
I dont pay enough attention to him to know his other fights off hand, i mean some of those ticks are just people debuts... Haney would of been a strong favorite with me training him...
He Seems like an overly theoretical thinking guy that would only work well with very specific fighters. like a worse version of adam booth...

Davison defends Kinahan vigorously on social media. He is the trainer at the MTK gym. Do you think there could be a link with Taylor stopping training with the McGuigan's?CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑28 Feb 2022, 16:38 If he’s as ineffective as his social media detractors say he is then why do top fighters keep hiring him and then retaining him. A lot of boxers are fairly gullible and believe anything they’re told. That’s why the sport is awash with bullshit artists and shafted ex fighters.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑28 Feb 2022, 16:38 If he’s as ineffective as his social media detractors say he is then why do top fighters keep hiring him and then retaining him. Davison reminds me of the trainer in the Benn McClellan with the sailors hat on. Desperate for attention and clueless on the big night.

He thinks he’s like a Bekham type with that greasy slick back hair. He looks like a nonce.

I think to compare him to McClellan’s trainer is a step too far, he was an absolute disgrace.high tower 1 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2022, 04:00A lot of boxers are fairly gullible and believe anything they’re told. Was anyone saying Josh Taylor was gullible when he unified against Ramirez or that Wood was gullible when he leapt up to world level to defeat Xu after a career spent at domestic level ?
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t know the difference between a top class trainer and a guy holding the pads at my local club but I just get the impression that Ben gets a hard time from old school fans A. For being young B. For never having boxed and C. For being a bit gobby
Re: About Ben Davison
What I find most worrying is the fact that he has never taught anyone to box from scratch and how to perform the basics. Has he ever coached amateur boxers??, would he be capable of showing a complete beginner how hold to hold their hands and feet correctly??. Yet he has been given some of the most talented boxers in the world to work with. Cant think of another sport which harbours so many frauds its almost like the Edie Murphy film Trading Places.
