The rankings would have to be from the year before the fight took place, because obviously you cannot rank someone for a calendar year which hasn't even finished.
Sorry, didn't realise results only get updated once a year. Will AJ and Parker still be listed as unbeaten until 31st December, then? Plus thousands of other boxers? My god, you really are clueless!

It's not an exact science but you seem to be trying to score some absolutely pathetic point about my lack of knowledge by pretending I didn't know the year of the fight. As you'd see if you'd bothered to read the post, the P4P ratings are for the year previous to the fights mentioned. So Tszyu was number three going into 2005 when he fought Hatton, Holyfield number three going into 1999 when he fought Lewis. As I said, I didn't have the end of 2014 figures from the Ring to hand but given Wlad didn't lose in 2014 and at the end of 2013 was ranked highly obviously Fury makes the list.

Not sure how you're not getting this. Everyone else has.

I would have thought Klitchsko was P4P top 10 at the time of the Fury fight.

Not sure on BHop based on his inactivity and how many "retirment" fights did he have around that period.... Did Mayweather enter the P4P scheme of things post McGregor?

Mikkel Kessler was possibly knocking on the door when he fought Joe C - as a partially unified champion.
Joe was P4P 10 before the Kessler fight. The rankings as of the start of 2007 had him beyond Mayweather, Pacquiao, Wright, Taylor , Hopkins, Barrera, Rafael Marquez, Hatton and Castillo.
I didn't think the question asked if the Brit needed to be not ranked.

Castillo wouldn't have been far off the time he lost to Hatton also.

Just saying that Joe was 10 at the time and obviously above Kessler. Kessler was number 2 at SMW but hadn't really had a Lacy type win.

Interesting looking at the old Ring P4P lists for some of the fights mentioned. In terms of where they were ranked on the P4P list at the start of the year in which the fight in question took place:

McClellan 8 v Benn
Tszyu 3 v Hatton
Lacy unranked v Calzaghe
Bute unranked v Froch
I can't find the 2014 rankings but Wlad was 4th for the 2013 list so would definitely have been top ten when Fury beat him
Holyfield 3 v Lewis
Hopkins 4 v Calzaghe
interesting that , i loved tszyu when i first see him in the amateur worlds i think beating vernon forrest he was brilliant but i thought he was a bit over hyped as a pro but i can see why he was as high as 3...

Tszyu seems a bit of an odd one in terms of rankings. He's not ranked at all for 2000 (for Mick's benefit, that's for the list published in 2001 for fights through 2000), but in 2001 ends up ninth after beating Mitchell, Urkal and of course Judah. in 2002 he climbs to sixth after just the one fight against Ben Tackie, before dropping to seventh in 2003 after fighting once again, against Jesse James Leija.

The big jump to third occurs in the 2005 list for fights up to the end of 2004, but that jump is based entirely on beating Sharmba Mitchell. It goes to show that with yearly rankings, fairly inactive fighters (Tszyu only fought three times between stopping Judah in November 2001 and his loss against Hatton in June 2005) can hold a highly ranked position.

Personally, I think 3 was a bit high for him going into 2005. Beating Mitchell after a lay off was one thing, but Winky Wright beat Mosley twice in the same year and was ranked lower than him.

I don't know why you're having such a hissy fit mate.

I'll explain it. The question is about British and Irish fighters who beat P4P top ten. Obviously we know this changes potentially every week and is subjective, but the Ring top ten ratings provide a broad idea of who was ranked where going into a new year. So that's why you look at the previous year - as outlined above it's why going into the Hatton fight for example Tszyu had been third at the start of the year. I didn't forget the fight happened in 2005; clearly Tszyu wasn't ranked in the 2005 list because he had one fight and lost it during that year.

I didn't think this was a big issue but you seem to have tried to use the point to suggest I didn't know which year Fury Klitschko happened for some odd reason.

Do The Ring not do monthly p4p lists now?

And? Jeez, it's a simple idea to show who was ranked where in a broad sense back in the day. What's your problem you nutter!

I don't see your issue anyway, given I acknowledged that Fury, who you have some absolutely thundering crush on, beat a legit top ten P4P fighter in Wlad. Lighten up ffs!

I think B-Hop was 2nd or 3rd P4P? Wasn’t Joe like 8th P4P at the time and Hatton was 10th or something like that? I remember them both being on the list at the same time.

Edit: 2007 ring magazine p4p list: Hops 4th, joe 5th, Hatton 8th

Isn't it a bit safer to look at ratings from late 2015 for a fight in late 2015 rather than 2014 lists?

John Conteh against Jorge Ahumada at Wembley in 1974. Ahumada was coming off a draw with the great Bob Foster and was the favourite to beat Conteh but the Liverpool man boxed his ears off.
