That's a relief.

Team GGG are making themselves look incompetent by trying to orchestrate a bout between a pound-for-pounder and future Hall-of-Famer middleweight and two relatively anonymous opponents that not only compete in a lower weight class, but neither of them are remotely close to being considered world class.

That is actually shocking news.

What is going on in the world of boxing?
The undisputed cash cow of the division got caught with a banned substance in his system.
The commission has actually rejected a blatantly over matched GGG opponent........................................this same commission has been fine with many mismatches over the years.
Now the alphabet orgs..............................the same orgs who have ordered many title holders to face blatantly over matched challengers or be stripped............................................................... are collectively rejecting another blatant GGG mismatch?
When did the alphabets start this practice?

Team GGG is embarrassing themselves.
Maybe they should skip the May 5th date.

Lennox Lewis once took his mandatory challenger on twelve days notice when a different opponent fell through.
That mandatory challenger was a future hall of famer in his physical prime.
Vitali Klitschko.

Dare to be great.
Lennox was up for it.
Apparently GGG is not daring enough to take Derevyanchenko on short notice.

Too bad Daniel Jacobs is already scheduled, a rematch between Jacobs and GGG may be as good (or better) than Alvarez.

Yeah I thought him or Saunders would be the best

"Golovkin's May 5 Fight in Jeopardy of Being Canceled Altogether"

It’s becoming increasingly likely that Gennady Golovkin won’t fight anyone May 5.

Multiple sources informed BS.com on Tuesday night that Golovkin’s scheduled May 5 fight is in serious jeopardy of being canceled for various reasons. Settling on an opponent to replace Canelo Alvarez and insufficient time to properly promote an event that appeared headed from Las Vegas to StubHub Center in Carson, California, are among the primary problems that could lead to Golovkin’s fight being officially canceled as early as Wednesday.

Golovkin is tentatively scheduled to fight three weeks from Saturday night, which leaves little time to sell even affordable tickets to his fight at the 9,000-seat StubHub Center. Securing an acceptable, affordable replacement for Alvarez, and one that won’t cost Golovkin his IBF 160-pound title, also has become problematic...

It's a pretty long article, so click on the hyperlink in this post to read it in its entirety.

The bottom line, in case you don’t want to do a lot of reading: it seems that the license fees being received from HBO aren’t enough to cover the events' expenses for a bout being held on the 5th May, 2018, with the author strongly suggesting that the Kazakh won’t be taking another fight until Canelo returns from suspension.

So, you don't see a difference between HWs who don't need to make weight and MWs??? There is no way Derevo can make 160 at a one month notice and still present any danger to GGG. His "volunteering" is just seeking publicity. Nobody beside a thin layer of hardcore fans knows who he is.

I can understand why GGG team doesn't want Derevyanchenko fight now. Fight against Spike O'Sullivan will probably get more views on HBO than the fight against Derevyanchenko, and the latter fight is much more riskier one.

I hope the cheater gets more than 6 months of suspension. If rematch is moved to September, the dirty diva and his team will insist that Golovkin doesn't fight before it and LOLeffler will bend.

"Golovkin on the brink of losing May 5th fight date"

“I’m not sure if the Gennady Golovkin fight is happening on May 5th at this point,” said Loeffler in a message late on Tuesday as the governing bodies continue talks to work out what happens next.

For the record, Bob Arum confirmed today that ESPN aren’t going to be paying HBO for the rights to televise GGG’s bout on the 5th May (if it even happens).

So they're going to put together a world title fight on about 2 weeks notice?

Amateur hour.

Whether the fight is held in Las Vegas or Los Angeles, it's a promotion that's going down the tubes.

They lost their main event. The best thing to do would be to re-schedule the card; eat the loss; and move forward. Else it could end up a disaster.

Some insiders are convinced that Loeffler was eager to have the card moved to Los Angeles because he's intent on having the California State Athletic Commission approve the once rejected Jaime Munguia as the opponent.

Loeffler feels that the card can't fly unless a Mexican plays Golovkin's foil on Cinco de Mayo.

It still won't set any box office records (there's no possible way that this ends up on PPV, right?) but the rookie Mexican still figures to bring in a little more dinero than the Irishman O'Sullivan.

No matter how it turns out, this whole thing has entered the realm of major farce.

Why not just reschedule the fight with Canelo at a neutral venue, not crooked Mafia Vegas or New York or Mexico. Why not in Kazakhstan? I once worked with Khazaks. They wore funny shoes. I liked the tall Khazak girl.

If this announcement is Golovkin related, it would probably deal with a postponement of the card, maybe until June.

With a delay, would that put a BJS fight into play? Especially if Warren is involved.

Is Jacobs scheduled to fight the week before ?

Would be ready physically, and I’d assume wouldn’t be huge problem to sort out as an opponent if they truly wanted .

Can’t understand how Nevada can refuse unbeaten BOXER Mungia as an opponent for GGG. Yet agree 0 fight novice McGreggor as an opponent for Mayweather ??!

Munguia is a nobody. Fans don't want to come from around the world to see him fight.

Novice or not, McGregor is a somebody who brings millions and millions to the table.

Fans from around the world did want to see him in a boxing ring.

Not to mention that Mayweather has a lot more clout in Nevada than Golovkin.

I understand the financial implications and draw of McGreggor. My point is the hypocrisy and inconsistency of the board rejecting him due to inexperience, yet allowing a boxer make his debut against a elite fighter.
