Yes, he should beat at least a decent domestic level fighter first, but its not like he did not embarrass himself against Abraham twice and Zeuge - yes, lost two of these decisively, but was competitive. Okay, we can forget about the Ward debacle.
ya, that really competitive 119-108 loss to a third rate belt holder destroyed by fielding and held to a draw by de carolas. seriously man! i dont know how you call that competitive.

and the aa rematch wasnt competitive imo. basically hes been living off that first aa fight, that he still lost, but has totally failed to get any positive result. he gets these opportunities because the other side knows there guy will win.

what are his three best wins?

i mean, people have gone on about guys like murray getting repeated shots, but murray actually drew with sturm, very arguably beat martinez, and only lost a split to abraham. smith just has that one aa fight he lost, and nothing else. was totally outclassed even by a guy like zeague.

smiths situation deserves ridicule :yay:

Yes, that is absolutely his problem. He didn't deserve the first world title shot, let alone 2 and 3 and 4 (if you count Ward as a world title - cannot remember if anything going to be on the line). But yes, whilst I thought he lost widely vs Zeuge - I thought he was not disgraced.

But yes, he jumped from almost English level (wasn't the top top echelons of British level) to world title fights, lost these and not really had a decent "fall back" fight. Someone like a Blackledge at least.

ya thats the thing, its been years since hes even beat a guy like blackledge or darryl williams ....tough english level guys

with no notable wins in years and really not ever a win beyond british level, and all those losses, and really not being very competitive overall in these big fights, its just a bit of a laughable situation, and him getting back in the ratings after a wide loss and retirement, obviously being set up for another title shot, is  and :KO:

Exactly - it's not his fault he keeps getting chances he doesn't deserve.

Didn't Smith announce his retirement a couple of months back? Saying he felt old in the Zeuge fight and that his hand was basically fucked?

“Today marks a year since my last fight, so now is a good a time as any to announce my retirement from fighting.

“In that fight I was seeing things in my head that my body just couldn't do and I fely my age in there.

I ruptured a ligament in my right-hand to add to it, needing an operation, the fifth in my career.

“The hand took a long time to get back to strength but my mind was made up after the fight.

“I talked with my wife and brothers and the decision, although tough to say out loud, wasn't tough to make.“

“The plan is to do features in several major publications detailing the reasons for my retirement, then announce a return to the ring less than 12 week’s later for another world title fight. Hopefully in the three months I’ve been away I will have secured a top 15 rating with a major sanctioning body, despite the fact I’ve just been sat around at home in my duds eating Doritos and watching Love Island.”

You seem to forget that a few years earlier he would have handled that Zeuge kid, it was just age, he could see the openings and not do anything about it. A problem in fact he had his entire career.

Don't start that mate - Smigga will start campaigning the WBA to award him a retrospective world title on the basis that he would have deffo beat the bloke if he was 10 years younger.

For ONCE boxing is being very kind, generous and forgiving to an ageing fighter instead of brutally throwing him on the scrapheap without a final payday or goodbye.

Good luck to him.
