That’s who always springs to mind whenever this topic comes up.

Saw him bust up Michael Gomez, had one more fight, then jacked it in.

Was in Training Camp with him in 2005 although his last fight was in 2002. Coming there without any training or fitness he was one of the 1st to get to the top of Mount Tidie, he was just A natural talent. Also Lee Beavis was there an all. 9-0 As a pro with loads of Jr titles and 2 senior ABA’s.

Frank Slane, amateur star about 20 years ago. Had a couple of pro fights and disappeared. Although, I can understand that progression in a way. The pros are different to the ams. Maybe some people just don’t dig the pro game and if they have a trade to fall back on, why do it.

Craig Dermody of Manchester lost a close one to John Lyon in the ABAs in 1989, turned pro with Mickey Duff, later switched to Mr Warren, but walked away altogether after dropping an iffy verdict to Karl Taylor, whom he had previously beaten.

Didnt he move on to work in management? Representing Nigel Benn among others (post boxing career stuff, not running boxing careers)

Who was the Geordie lad who beat Boomer in an ABA final? - I think he had a couple of pro fights then packed it in.

I cant remember the source, but I read a few years ago that most pro boxers end up retiring / packing it in having had less than 10 fights.

I guess that half a dozen fights over 3 or 4 years for small purses, pressure to sell tickets etc. whilst having a day job is draining when all they want to do is box.

Didn’t Lear threaten to do Beavis in on that trip? It was on a documentary somewhere. I think you were on it.

yeah that’d explain short careers like Dean Hollington & Mark Tibbs who moved in to promoting & training, respectively (after brief & intriguing acting careers).

Roman Greenberg could have made a few extra quid. He lost to Boswell then packed it in. Definitely could have had a few cash out fights.

Last I heard he was training with Nigel Travis and still trying to line up fights. He boxed on a few VIP shows in 2017.
I saw Nigel in the best amateur fight I've scene at the lodge end of season show around 25 years ago he and the other guy were in the floor with Travis coming out on top it was like hagler Vs hearns

Yes they had an argument out at a restaurant Beavis was well up for it even more so then Kevin.

Another great boxer Ian Wilson always going into fight 60/70% had to pack it in due to injury.
