Promising boxers that disappeared/walked away
The recent thread about Adam Etches quitting boxing in his mid-20s got me thinking about the many promising young fighters I've seen over the years that have had success for a period and then decided to walk away. Some pretty much disappeared from the scene in the blink of an eye.
Off the top of my head, here's a few I can think of.
Scott Jenkins
Kieran Maher
Karl Place
Reuben Arrowsmith
Rhys Roberts
Danny Price
Chad Gaynor
Anyone think of any more? I'm sure there's loads.

ian weaver kinda had a strange career that ended at 25
was a junior am star, and then as a senior won gold at commonwealths and silver at euros. didnt make the olympics but still very good am credentials. turned pro but didnt seem to get much backing and went 5-0 with a few fights in spain, then fought an 11-0 yank in the yanks hometown and lost a split. won one more fight after that and retired at 25 at 6-1. i got the impression he was good enough to be a player at domestic level. think he might have had brain scan issue?

and then of course the obvious one, kevin satchell, his career trajectory is just strange to me, wins brit and then at 26 the euro, seemingly on the cusp of world title opporutnities,.then for the next two years steps back down to fighting journeymen, then retires as a 16-0 28 year old whose last opponent was 6-24
Re: Promising boxers that disappeared/walked away
and im not sure how good he was, but aba runner up junior saeed was 5-0 then called it a day at 26. i remember him getting a bit of hype when he first turned pro, supposed to be one of those cocky, naz like 'entertainers'. but then after winning his debut in 2009 he didnt fight again until 2014. then 4 more fights and retired by mid 2015.

Tom Baker
Mitchell Smith

Zak Chelli
Are these young prospects really ‘walking away’ or are they just not getting fights ?

Has Andrew Selby quit?
Heard rumors he was packing it in. Shame if do. He could easily be the number 1 fighter in his division.

Re: Promising boxers that disappeared/walked away
no he said hes not and that hes coming for rosales, would be interesting , id think that the 6 years younger rosales with 5 fights since then and in his stride has prob improved more then selby with 1 fight since they fought. would that be enough to change the result or make it closer at least?
didnt know about weaver, seen pretty much no talk about him

John Fewkes and Akaash Bahtia looked good coming up, on a lower level my mate Davie Drummond KO'd Moses Motovu on his debut then drew with Jody Meikle and has never fought again

I always used to have a laugh with Danny Harding. He beat Chris Pacy twice and even had his nose cauterised to help his career. Now he trains amateurs and does a lot of work with Campbell Hatton.

That’s who always springs to mind whenever this topic comes up.
Saw him bust up Michael Gomez, had one more fight, then jacked it in.
