Which would put him at 11-0 instead of 6-0 when he first fought Jack Johnson.
Yeah, it would be nice to have the complete information in one location. It must be so difficult because of how record keeping was back then. Where do you get your info? Do you just research it? Have a better record keeping site? Do tell!

Nah, I look through some newspapers for what interests me. It's easy to find stuff they've not got, but I couldn't even come vaguely close to what they have, there'd be not much point in trying. Cyberboxingzone is also good, and occasionally has stuff missing from boxrec, and stuff like exhibitions and bareknuckle fights, but only covers the records of certain fighters.

Ha, I've seen the wanker fight once or twice. He always gets an "injury" after a round or two. You think he's bad, you should see some of the boxers he manages.

I think it's just a way of getting some wins to make them to look like more credible opponents when they go overseas to lose.

Has he retired though, his status is "inactive" on BoxRec and there's no record of him fighting again? If he hasn't retired, then well done! :TU:

Not sure if he retired again after that, maybe it was a farewell fight at home...

It was a good find anyway, I don’t think I could have found a boxer that competed last year that had scored so many KO’s.

Its universally recognized that Archie Moore has the most KOs..some numbers may differ but it's still the great Archie Moore...sorry enlightened one, but you need to look outside your country sometimes

What do you mean when you claim I need to look outside my country sometimes?

I am not the only one that quoted Billy Bird as having achieved the most knockout victories in boxing, so why not challenge them? The reason he gains my vote is due to the fact that it’s possible to obtain a breakdown of his KO victims.

For sure, in reality, Archie Moore or more likely Sam Langford, may have scored more KO victories than Billy Bird did, but there is no audit trail. There is no record of some of the fights they competed in, hence the reason why different sources cite different KO figures for Moore and Langford - there are no consensus stats relating to these men. As far as I'm concerned, on a fight-by-fight basis, Moore's resume only contains a breakdown of 132 KO victims... and this important fact is being ignored.

One of the main reasons why many believe that Archie Moore scored the most KO’s, is based on the figure quoted by ESPN, but the very same source is not even sure how old he was when he passed away:

"Moore packed a lethal punch"

But what also endures is Moore's record of 141 knockouts, a mark that still stands today.

Moore had seven children and was married five times. His last marriage was to Joan Hardy, a New York model, in 1956. They were still together 42 years later when he died on Dec. 9, 1998, at a hospice in San Diego after a lengthy illness.

Archie Moore was 84. Or maybe 81.

The problem is, do we claim the man as having scored the most KO’s based on historical records or based on popular mainstream opinion/reputation/hearsay?

I don’t really care either way, because until someone can provide a breakdown of Archie Moore’s 140+ KO victories, my vote will remain with Billy Bird.

I'm more than willing to revise my opinion in light of any new evidence people may supply.

A lot of wrong things get repeated.

People also think pound for pound came about because of Sugar Ray Robinson.

On Boxrec Billy Bird has more. That's the best records we have.

I heard P4P was originally for Canzoneri or Jimmy McLarnin, and I also always thought Moore had the ko record.

I really don't care who's right, as we have no clue how many fights were never recorded for all those old timers.

True, but I'd argue WIlde and Bird likely have more unrecorded bouts. Especially Wilde.
