This is good for boxing. His career. He has his first loss out the way now.

Just because he shares Deontay’s last name, we shouldn’t think differently.

Had he remained unbeaten for a while who knows who he may have fought in the future to protect his ‘0’.

I’ve love to fight a boxing judge one day

One judge 113-113 and another 117-109

Boxing needs to get in the bin

Probably not number 1 now. After such a performance even old Pac can be a real threat.

Guys been out 2 years. Was removed from most rankings. He was never gonna be the best Thurman last night.

Yeah. The question is, will he be able to regain his shape.

Ive not read anyone else's breakdown of the fight yet so I'm only going off the judges and commentary but my scoring must be getting worse, I had Thurman a clear winner 118-109, could maybe see a couple rounds closer but I just cant see how the fight was close, it wasn't vintage Thurman and it got a but tough in the second half for Thurman but as far as winning rounds were concerned, I still had to give Thurman pretty much everything, Lopez pressured all night with his feet but never let his hands go enough when in range and Thurman was able to move and make him miss and counter him, the knockdown he scored in the 2nd was a beauty, left hook counter reminded me of Garcia/Khan a bit

The 7th was a torrid round for Thurman, he took a pasting and showed a lot of heart to grit it out and avoid going down, ther was no doubt it was toughest moment of Thurman's career so far, after that I thought it was just a case of Lopez walking forward and Thurman on the backfoot countering, the quality punch picking was always with Thurman, I cant give Lopez rounds for just marching forward, especially when he wasn't even that busy, Thurman's jab was better, the right hand, uppercuts, just picked his shots a lot better than Lopez

There was no doubt it was a bit of a slog for Thurman down the stretch but as far as picking up rounds it wasn't close IMO, he caught Lopez with some big shots throughout and Lopez showed a beard better than I thought he had

The scoring was questionable. I gave Thurman 10/11 rounds. There were some close rounds, and Lopez performed better than expected, but I don't know what the judges were watching.

9-3 or 8-4 seemed about right.

the drawn card was way out tbh.

Lopez was game.. he did fight every round but Thurman just did that much more to steal the rounds. If you gave López most of the closet rounds it would be closer to a draw. But truth is, he realy didn’t deserve the close rounds either.

Thank fvck I wasn't the only one who had Thurman a clear winner, spirited effort from Lopez no doubt but he was outlanded and outclassed in most rounds

Did anyone else watching on ITV think the PBC/FOX commentators were fvcking idiots? Banging on about Thurman not throwing his right hand. He threw it plenty. Just because it wasn't hurting Lopez didn't mean he wasn't throwing it ffs. In reality he's just not as big a puncher as he was advertised as he came up. He's got 1 stoppage in something like his last 6 fights. Seems to be able to rock people but not put them away. Heavy handed but lacks the killer instinct or maybe the skill to set up the right shots. Throws a lot of wide hooks and looping right hands without a great deal of thought, would prefer to see him shorten his punches. And he moves far too much as well. A lot of the time for no reason. Just moving away for a minute straight with his back near the ropes and not throwing punches. He was fortunate that he was in with Lopez who had pretty slow feet and couldn't cut off the ring.

I had him winning the fight comfortably by the way. And I understand that he's been out for nearly 2 years. But I had the same frustrations before his lay off so I don't see it getting any better. I think a Porter rematch would be interesting. If they fought 10 times it'd probably end up something like 6-4 to Thurman so it's worth seeing again. Spence and Crawford both beat him.

Finally got the chance to watch this last night & I have to agree with the above, was getting pretty irritating to listen to quite frankly. He landed quite a number of good right hands in my eyes, seemed as though they wanted to make something out of (nearly) nothing just to make a point following his injury lay-off.

Thurman did well to hang in there in the 7th, took some big big shots. A better finisher with sharper footwork could have had him out of there. Was far from a vintage performance but it was good to see him back in the ring.

TV planner actually managed to record the whole fight as well :yay:
