We talk about British boxing booming but we only have Edwards, Yafai, Warrington, Callum Smith and Joshua with a world title and challengers being shipped as clear underdogs. Maybe the boom is on a hiatusRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 19:19Yeh Sky have the DAZN cards here but it’s PST midnight we don’t get to enjoy the prime time boxing anymore.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 17:33I think the start of the year has been disappointing with regards to U.K. shows but I personally am enjoying the US based DAZN shows.
If someone was paying for Skysports just for the boxing then I’d agree it’s not value for money but the majority of people who subscribe to Sky Sports do so for more than one sport.
Same with BT Sports. I think the boxing coverage on BT this year has been crap but I love the UFC so will keep paying for it.
This last weekend was the first World title headliner we’ve had in a while. And it was a Flyweight bout. Edwards is a no name.. it was at the Copper Box. A venue mostly FW used.
It was booming 3 years ago. Now it’s on a hiatus like you said..Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 03:42We talk about British boxing booming but we only have Edwards, Yafai, Warrington, Callum Smith and Joshua with a world title and challengers being shipped as clear underdogs. My understanding is that the US/overseas shows should be in addition to the U.K. shows. If that’s not the case and they’re a replacement for U.K. shows then that would be disappointing.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 19:19Yeh Sky have the DAZN cards here but it’s PST midnight we don’t get to enjoy the prime time boxing anymore.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 17:33I think the start of the year has been disappointing with regards to U.K. shows but I personally am enjoying the US based DAZN shows.

Interesting. I think certainly until fairly recently Matchroom/Eddie WERE incredibly lucky to have the Sky contract, but to be fair to Eddie he took the opportunity and made the most of it, and has perhaps outgrown Sky now with the finances available via the US market and PPV in the UK with DAZN. I think Sky may live to regret the exclusivity contract, albeit they themselves have made a bomb from it over the past 6 years or so.dbf wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:05 Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. He intimated that whilst Sky have been great partners to Matchroom the reverse was true too and that Matchroom were more valuable to Sky then Sky were to them. He sounded quite confident of that and also the tone suggested he was tired of people suggesting he was lucky to have the Sky contract. Hearn believes in the streaming model and its only a matter of time before DAZN launch in the UK and Hearn follows them. Do Matchroom have equity in DAZN? Is Hearn on the board etc??
I think Barry runs the darts and snooker side of things, Eddie does the boxing.ShadrachSimmo wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 02:51Aside from boxing does he have any input at all in snooker and darts? I’ve never seen him at any events for those “sports”.
I am interested to see how long DAZN are around. I doubt they can ever make a return. All the money they are paying out yet i doubt their subscribers are high.dave_smith wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:37Will Sky want to deal with MTK with all the alleged shadiness / baggage that comes with them?
x 2 on Dazn. Those deals are ridiculous and the rumoured - lets get fighters on as an executor - how many executors do they want! It cannot be sustainable.Glass Joe wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 08:17I am interested to see how long DAZN are around. I doubt they can ever make a return. Ps that anti MTK account is brutal on twitter.
X2Onetimeonly wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 08:27 Dazn is not going to be profitable in the States off of boxing. Sorry y'all are enduring what happened here a few decades back. Eddie is an excellent promoter but his ego is out of whack if he thinks he can get Americans to care about boxing.
I don’t think Matchroom will jump with Boxing and I doubt very much with their other sports.stujones wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 08:21 I cannot see Sky working with a promoter who will struggle to get "title fights" and how many belts will MTK need to make up.
I think Matchroom are in a position to "jump" ship - Darts is getting more and more coverage on ITV - I think it is a ratings winner. Also more Snooker is on ITV suggesting a decent relationship with the other sports.
My worry for Hearn is, is he placing his eggs in one basket. I'm not convinced the DAZN model is sustainable - it stinks of Setanta. The money they are paying and the deals they are making are ridiculous. Golovkin will be almost 40 by the end of his contract - he's already showing clear sign of being worn.
It was my insipration for my "are promoters dropping the ball" thread - I cannot see how EH is making money on these US bills in small arena's - just the money he is paying his fighters.
In terms of the DAZ package, boxing included, it is Barry not Eddie in control. When it comes to the pound note Barry knows what he is doing and Eddie isn't far behind. Streaming services like NetFlix are the way forward.Glass Joe wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 08:17I am interested to see how long DAZN are around. I doubt they can ever make a return. Matchroom could create an app, stick on mobile, ipad, PC, consoles - even TVs like Samsung, LG etc.dbf wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:05 Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. At the end of the day, a lot of people who stream illegally would buy the genuine article if it was reasonably priced
Why not?leejonesjnr wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 11:11NopeG0mez wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 10:05dbf wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:05 Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. no Fast Eddie is MatchRoom Boxing only. Barry still manages the rest and says he'll carry on working 'til he drops down dead.ShadrachSimmo wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 02:51Aside from boxing does he have any input at all in snooker and darts? I’ve never seen him at any events for those “sports”.

Pretty much every major fight stream crashes as they do't have the bandwidth.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 11:11NopeG0mez wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 10:05dbf wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:05 Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. An official stream in HD with no buffering, pop-ups or crashing at the main event is worth a couple of quid of any serious fan's money.
Explains why Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Spotify are failing to attract customers i guess...leejonesjnr wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 11:33People are what they are.banjo wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 11:25Why not?leejonesjnr wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 11:11NopeG0mez wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 10:05dbf wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:05 Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. The people that stream now will always stream if they can, doesn’t matter if it’s £99 or 99p
