I'm pretty sure they do that in other sports for incentives to perform well. Maybe I missed something in one of these threads but what would the payment structure be for the rematch? Would Ruiz receive more than Joshua having the roles reversed as far as Champion and Challenger?
Why on earth would any promoter want to give the opponent extra incentive to beat his fighter?

If you factor in the difference this will make to Ruiz's earning power for the rest of his career, even if he loses immediately in a rematch, it would have been worth him taking the fight for nothing.
