Probably because if an 80 year old was badly injured, he or his family would sue the ass off the state commission that allowed him to fight, suddenly claiming it was irresponsible and negligent to allow such a match.
what i mean is that the comission should inform such a person about the risk but he and only he should decide if he wants to take the risk or not. in this case the family couldn't sue the commission.

I have no problem with senior bouts. In the 90s and early 2000s there was the "Legends of Boxing" championship. If I'm not mistaken Holmes won it.

Was he in his 80's? Um...no... It's a slippery slope. Besides, no one would really be interested in watching that. Except the morbidly curious.

lol holmes was like 50 when he fought bean, at 80 guys would probably be dropping dead left and right from heart attacks and body jabs

I suppose it depends on who it was.
If Jack Palance was 70-80 and wanted to fight someone like Charles Bronson in a pro fight I'd be all over that.
But a 70-80 year old against a 40-50 year old guy? Hell no. There ought to be common sense in the matchmaking no matter how bad someone's record is.
I'd pay to see Foreman vs Holmes even now in 2019.

They were supposed to in 1999. Hell George called out Steven Segall not long ago. I'd of watched that.

if the guys in their 80s would be allowed to fight it doesn't mean that millions of men in their 80s would actually want to do that... it would be 10 men/year worldwide at best. and even that is unlikely. could well be 0.

My thoughts exactly, most people at 80 are lucky if they can walk to the kitchen and not get out of breath, let alone have a scrap, good thing about it is that they'd make joe Joyce look like Manny Pacquiao.

It should be forbidden for all fighters over 40 years to compete.
It's part of competing in a combat sport where you get repeatedly punched in the head. Age shouldn't matter, to an extent. It's if you can logically defend yourself.

Glad to hear he's recovering.
Was Zab broke or was he just trying to recapture his glory days? If the latter, this is a perfect example of why these older guys need to just let the past go and call it a day. This sport is too dangerous to be competing with diminished skills.

There are some who would let him fight in his 80s

No doubt about it, the commissions are corrupt enough to let just about anyone with a pulse fight. That's why I'm wondering if Zab was broke. There's no other reason for him to take the fight other than ego (which of course is a strong possibility).

He still does a lot of sparring.
Judah probably just felt that based on his gym work, he could fight as well as ever.
Fighters always do.
