A potentially fatal miscalculation.

not totally sure. there could be a time limitation that explains why usy is making for it now. but its defo a standing wbo policy and not some whacky sh!t they just created specifically for usyk

TFKoB is giving AJ his rematch. Fvck the WBO.

not sure this blocks a rematch (with the wbo on line) or just makes usyk mandatory to the winner

i think most see the wba as worst with the zillion title bs. and in terms of hw shenanigans, ordering a 6 vs 12 pbc mandatory seems a lot more calculated and 'making it up as we go along to benefit a certain party' then this--this is an established policy that goes well beyond usyk.. and tbh usyks one of the most interesting possible challenges out there. also has it been said the shot couldnt wait till after a ruiz-aj rematch?

how bout they all suck

Dillian Whyte was the WBO's international champion and long-term highest-rated contender and he's been bypassed by Oleksandr Usyk.

I understand the WBO's rules and I also appreciate the reason why they felt compelled to allow Usyk to jumpr the queue ahead of Dillian Whyte, but I really can't help feeling sorry for the Brit.

The IBF dropped him from their ratings, because he wouldn’t accept a 25% of the purse split to face Kubrat Pulev on the Bulgarians home turf. And let’s not bother talking about the WBC situation!

It seems that no one wants to grant him the opportunity to challenge for one of the world titles.

Interestingly though, Dillian Whyte is the only top-tier PPV world-rated heavyweight that is self-managed and doesn't have any ties to a particular network or broadcaster. And I feel that this may be the reason why the sports govering bodies have sided with boxing content providers affiliated with DAZN, ESPN & the PBC, rather than allowing the Brit to challenge for one of their titles.

I think this is great. As for Whyte he's turned down a couple of big fights, and he's also made plenty of enemies by badmouthing other boxers and publicly accusing them of using drugs, though he's probably telling the truth, but then publicly telling the truth is what makes people angriest, and not just in boxing!

I agree it is what us fans want.
But the belts will start to be stripped either before or shortly after the rematch.

i mean why do there have to be strippinggs. why can the winner defend against usyk

are ppl unhappy about usyk getting a shot? to me hes the most interesting out there besides the big tier

I sense that this is part of the issue here as he talks too much without thinking about the consequence and how many fights can you turn down and be taken seriously .

:TU: I agree, but to be fair, Whyte has done more for a shot at a title than any other contender. I'm just not that interested in him.

And his big mouth is going to get him dropped by the wbc soon also
Wbo always does that with champs that move up. I'm fine with it. Whyte is a rare instance of a #1 that actually earned his spot. He could have had one in April, chose not to take it. On him.

btw i think most fans see the wba as worst, not wbc
Bit strange for a board about boxing not knowing about such things.

Also, it was announced 9 hours ago that the mandatory would put Usyk in line to face the winner of Joshua v Ruiz

Why the speculation?

Thanks for the diary! WBO had an entire doc posted to their website on the decision.

What part of the document leaves things open to speculation for you?

I might be missing something as I'm not a lawyer, but it seems to be documenting the process of their decision, and tries not to leave anything open to speculation.

The conclusion being Usyk is WBO mandatory.
He would fight the winner of Ruiz Vs Joshua, as that fight was agreed before this ruling.

The door is still open to a potential unification with the WBC taking priority over Usyk

Not sure of mandatories.
I know Pulev is IBF no. 1 ranked HW.

WBA is more confusing. Gold/Silver/Regular, etc.

No said they are sure. If Ruiz wins the rematch, no one says the fight with Usyk would have the other three belts on the line, although if AJ wins the rematch I'd expect them to be.

What if Usyk doesn't want the shot?

What if he prefers to spend a year acclimating himself to the heavyweight division?

Not unlikely, unless he sees the smaller Ruiz (smaller heightwise, anyways) as eminently beatable.

His people are who filed the request with the WBO (per their rules), so you have to figure he wants it.
