Well if that's going to be the case then all athletes from any country bickering or having some border conflict or trade conflict or whatever shouldn't ever compete against each other. Indian athletes shouldn't compete against Chinese athletes - well they're probably all too busy calling me on the phone saying that they're the IRS anyway. Chinese shouldn't compete against Americans; Americans shouldn't compete against...well they're all always fighting with each other anyway. And it's all totally manipulated.
Ukraine and Russian forces just fought each other and the political climate between the two is still quite uneasy and uncertain. If Usyk was a Palestinian and Fedesov an Israeli he may not want the fight either for similar reasons. When the politics are tense sometimes sporting events are avoided. Remember the 1980 and 1984 Olympics?

Russia and Ukraine are both major forces in boxing. So now their fighters can't compete against each other anymore?

Really bad comparison. Ukrainians and Russians don't hate each other like Palestinians and Israelis. Eastern Ukrainians and Russians is basically the same people. There is no ethnic hate. The hate is between politicians.

I've heard that Usyk being from the Ukraine doesn't want to fight any Russian fighters. Not the first time I've heard this.
He was perfectly fine fighting Gassiev in Moscow and as I remember sounded VERY politically neutral and friendly to Russian people (to not be mixed with government).

Ukranian boxers on this side of the ocean are friends with Russians.

For those who knows Russian, read/listen to this:
https://newsonline24.com.ua/usik-oshara ... rod-video/

Usyk says that he is not separating Ukrainians and Russians, basically saying that they are the same people. He is also expresses unhappiness about people who are trying to mix sports and politics.

About not fighting Fedosov, Usyk literally said that he doesn't want that because some people will try to politicize that:
https://ukraina.ru/news/20190824/1024732117.html
He wants to avoid Russian opponents when it's possible, hovewer, he had to fight Gassiev because it was mega fight, unification and a final of WBSS.

are Russians and Ukrainians the same people? well, Russians can't understand the Ukrainian language, a lot of Ukrainians speak Russian though, for obvious reasons.

that's because a lot of citizens of eastern Ukraine are in fact ethnic Russians. the more the west you go though, the hate towards ''Katsapy'' is increasing.

Of course the hate wasn't so huge few years ago, the politicians contributed a lot to this.

I guess you haven't talked to many Ukrainians lately. Yes, there is plenty of ethnic hate but mostly comes from the Ukrainian side towards Russians.

You are probably talking to Western Ukrainians. Of course there are some nationalists in the East too, but they are a tiny minority.

That's mainly because most of Ukrainians except the very West of the country are Russian Orthodox.

By the way, all top Ukrainian boxers give their interviews in Russian, because when they grew up, that was their main language. In particular, Usyk was born in the predominantly Russian Crimea, so he definitely doesn't hate Russians.

So far his heavyweight transition hasn't been going smoothly. In a little more than two months it will be a year since he fought Bellew. A boxer only has so many prime years.

Who said can't?

I would imagine Usyk would've considered it, if it was a major money fight against a big name opponent. But it's not. It's Fedosov, and it wasn't even important. So who cares?

Attorney Gilgamesh: The party of the first part, Mr SV, stated that since there since is a political problem between the party of the 2nd part, Ukraine, and the party of the 3rd part, Russia, I quote: " the political climate between the two is still quite uneasy and uncertain." thenceforth and therefore "Usyk doesn't want his fight used to foment ethnic hate from either side. "

Of course this depends upon what the meaning of the word can't can or can't be.

Maybe the real reason is Usyk's managers are thinking Fedosov might be too dangerous a first time heavyweight opponent with too little potential reward for beating him either, because he is a slugger. By the way, it says Fedosov now lives in Hollywood, CA.

BS. Even on Ukrainian TV when asked in Ukrainian, they often respond in Russian.

It's not a bullśhit, i meant when they're interviewed in USA, for example. Russian is more popular, so more people can understand them, and it's easier to translate. When in Ukraine, it's just because it's a more popular language. But it's a fact that a lot if not most of top Ukraine's boxers, for example Klitschkos, are from Russian speaking families.

Usyk is from Crimea where a vast majority speak Russian, Lomachenko and Hvozdyk are from cities with a big Russian speaking community too. also, Russian is the bigger, more influential language, so they prefer to use it in interviews. More people understand it so more fans and attention they can get. BTW a lot of sports events in Ukraine have two commentators - one speaking in Ukrainian other in Russian. A lot of tv shows too.

It doesnt change the fact that they feel Ukrainians - the separate nation, not ''the same people as Russians''. Few Belarusians speak Belarusian but most of them feel Belarusian, not Russian. Most of Irish speak English, but they feel Irish, not English.

I am not exaggerating in any way when I say that almost every Ukrainian I have spoken to and known seems to harbor some dislike towards Russians. This has to do not just with the present situation but the historical events that made such misery of Ukrainians. However, the same I cannot say of the other way around -most Russians see Ukrainians as their brothers.

Regardless, Usyk had better find a dance partner quickly to salvage this year.

Usyk’s still fighting TBA at the time of writing, though former kickboxing great Tyrone Spong has emerged as the frontrunner.

This has got me wondering, maybe they are more confident that Andy Ruiz Jr will beat Joshua again. As Usyk is being linked with small heavy weights.

You could read it as they predict a mandatory against Ruiz, because fighting people 6'1" or 6'2" isn't good preparation for a super heavy like Joshua...

Usyk would run rings around Ruiz.

I hope that Usyk will fight Jennings or Takam. Despite of what some user on here used to say, Tyrone Spong is weak and would be a total no-hoper vs Usyk (and against anyone in the top 30 too)
