It actually wasn't even on. It was only being considered as a one of the options.

...the reason according to his manager being that boxing a largely unknown Russian on the American soil won't make a splash in the States..

so, let's see who he could fight then...

-Christian Hammer
-Eric Molina
-Mariusz Wach
-Andriy Rudenko
-Arnold Gjergjaj
-Travis Kauffman
-Bogdan Dinu
-Lucas Browne
-Johann Duhaupas
-Bermane Stiverne
-Erkan Teper

i hope it gonna be some big guy, no interesting options on this list but out of these i'd like to see him vs Dinu, Duhaupas or Wach. Maybe Hammer too, he is not that big HW but seems to be the best out of these fighters at the moment.

according to Usyk's words, it's the same reason as why he didn't want to fight Alexander Povetkin - political stuff...

Of course. The HW division is just a fornicate-around place. It'll be a year, get the guy in the ring.

It has nothing to do with Fedosov being Russian. Usyk has never been anti-Russian.

he is not... that is why he doesn't want to fight Russians - he doesnt want people to think so, to see this fight in political context...of course you know better than Usyk himself

I've heard that Usyk being from the Ukraine doesn't want to fight any Russian fighters. Not the first time I've heard this.

I hate this, Ukrainians hating Russians and vice versa. They will manipulate us into hating and killing and fighting wars with each other until we're all gone. I wonder what is the real reason for this. Usyk seems to be a great guy as well as an extraordinary athlete.

He was perfectly fine fighting Gassiev in Moscow and as I remember sounded VERY politically neutral and friendly to Russian people (to not be mixed with government).

Ukranian boxers on this side of the ocean are friends with Russians.

For those who knows Russian, read/listen to this:
https://newsonline24.com.ua/usik-oshara ... rod-video/

Usyk says that he is not separating Ukrainians and Russians, basically saying that they are the same people. He is also expresses unhappiness about people who are trying to mix sports and politics.

About not fighting Fedosov, Usyk literally said that he doesn't want that because some people will try to politicize that:

Exactly!

" He is also expresses unhappiness about people who are trying to mix sports and politics."

But they always do! That's what the whole national anthem before the big fights thing is all about.

Usyk doesn't want his fight used to foment ethnic hate from either side. It's not like there aren't enough willing combatants around with whom he can box with.

Well if that's going to be the case then all athletes from any country bickering or having some border conflict or trade conflict or whatever shouldn't ever compete against each other. Indian athletes shouldn't compete against Chinese athletes - well they're probably all too busy calling me on the phone saying that they're the IRS anyway. Chinese shouldn't compete against Americans; Americans shouldn't compete against...well they're all always fighting with each other. And it's all totally manipulated.

Ukraine and Russian forces just fought each other and the political climate between the two is still quite uneasy and uncertain. If Usyk was a Palestinian and Fedesov an Israeli he may not want the fight either for similar reasons. When the politics are tense sometimes sporting events are avoided. Remember the 1980 and 1984 Olympics?
