To be fair to Hearn, both Dirrell and Plant are with PBC, and the remainder of the SM division has no standout names in it. People talk of Canelo, Golovkin etc, but they operate in a different weight division, Smith will be of very little interest to them.
He would be better of trying to cut a deal with PBC. He can beat both Dirrell and Plant so if he gets those fights drawn into a sign on contract, he has a great opportunity to unify the SM division. If he goes any other route, he will be left to wollow in the mud for a long time to come.
PBC rarely match their fighters against each other when it makes most sense.
So then he is fooked, he might as well move up to light heavy now and be done with it.

I think he should think about moving up to light heavy soon. Plenty of fights at that weight and an opportunity to try for a belt at a second weight.

May aswell just retire then. 9 months after Groves fights a chinny middleweight.
What's the point why should fans care.
That was Callum’s choice to take a few months out then his missus had baby as well.

Joe Gallagher has poured water on the idea of a potential showdown between Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders.
The manager and trainer of the WBA Super, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine world super middleweight champion recently returned from Mexico after guiding Smith’s older brother Liam to a seventh-round stoppage win against Mario Alberto Lozano.
Smith has been out of the ring since making the first defence of his titles at Madison Square Garden in New York back in June when he stopped Hassan N’Dam, dropping him thrice inside three rounds.
But he is said to have grown frustrated by the lack of opportunities and confirmed fight dates.
If I was Gallagher I’d be watching my mouth - he’s already black balled with Warren who can’t stanf him now he’s having a pop at Hearn - he’ll run out places to go soon in the UK as he just runs his mouth constantly.

Laughing all the way to the bank and world champ tho
On those two bare facts, he has had a great career but it does not really reveal the story does it mate?
He needs a big fight sharpish.

Hearn has really not done well for Smith, especially when you consider how much he used to say that Callum was the best talent in boxing, best Smith brother (backhanded compliment), future star etc.
His career progression as a novice up to being a contender was acceptable, but then he was ranked number one for quite a while but did not get a shot. It seemed to drag on forever until they put him in the WBSS and even then, it was not Eddie matchmaking.
Groves is the only real world class win, and there could be a few asterisks added there and we are now a year past that and all he has done is beat career middleweight and past it N'Dam

Hearn only cares about Joshua and his new dazn deal.

What asteriks would you add to the Groves win?

Miles on the clock, lack of desire at that point, already looking to retire apparently, the shoulder injury and that Groves is good but not great anyway.

Ah, so the kind of asterisk you can apply to almost any high level win if you read it a certain way.

I do not think so mate. I did not say it did not have value, just that it is not a beating of Kostya Tyszu or Don Curry. Groves (who I do really like), had already experienced a few defeats, had a bad injury months earlier and had not himself really proven himself to be a division leader at that time

I listened to that interview yesterday, and the over riding impression from Joe is that he thinks Callum is a ppv fighter and should be getting paid accordingly and the reason he isn't is everyone else's fault.
Okay.

This does always seem to be Joe's approach, to become very outspoken about his fighter's promoter.
To be fair though, I can see his point - and also the promoter's point.
It seems to be a bit of a stalemate with Callum Smith, he's a bloody good fighter and has some decent titles under his belt. He is quite a shy lad though, he doesn't go ranting off or getting into wars of words with any potential opponents.
Perhaps he is too professional and needs to be more vocal about wanting names. To basically "play the game" a bit more. I like him a lot and enjoy his fights immensely and hope a good name is found soon.

He is right though. A promoter should take the ball & run with it. Not leave it in the garden hoping someone will kick it eventually. Maybe Eddeh is playing it cooling knowing the fisheyed old bloke next door ain't interested in nicking his ball?
