Press Release

Two exciting Heavyweight matchups have been added to the undercard of Anthony Joshua's Unified World Title defence against Kubrat Pulev on Saturday December 12, shown live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on DAZN in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Hughie Fury (24-3, 14 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since his three-round destruction of Pavel Sour at Manchester Arena back in March to take on Poland’s Mariusz Wach (36-6, 19 KOs), a former opponent of Wladimir Klitschko, Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte.

"I’m very excited to be back in action again on December 12," said Fury. "It’s been a while and I’m ready to show what I’m all about. I’ve been in the gym working on a lot of different aspects of my game, perfecting what I needed to do.

"Mariusz Wach is a good fighter who’s been in with many top tier fighters including a World Title challenge. He brings power and size, and you can’t switch off for a second. I want these kind of fights as these fights will help me achieve what I need. I’m expecting a tough fight with Wach."

Martin Bakole and Sergey Kuzmin fight for the vacant WBC International Heavyweight Title after their proposed fight earlier in the year was rescheduled. Both men share respective 15-1 records and will be looking to gatecrash the world rankings.

“I’m really looking forward to fighting for the WBC International Title on such a big night of boxing", said Bakole. "A victory over Kuzmin is another step to making my dreams come true."

“This fight with Bakole is very important for me, I need to bounce back from my defeat to Michael Hunter last time and get back on track towards a World Title," revealed Kuzmin. "Martin is big, tall and comes forward, we know his strengths. I come only to win on December 12.”

Not bad matches actually. They mean "something" in the heavyweight division and aren't both 1 round knockover jobs.

Don't mind it. Wach has never been great and neither has Hughie. Hughie beat Parker on my card in a boring, ugly fight. If he beats Wach (who is massive with a granite chin) then it's a decent win and Hughie moves forward.

Don't particularly care about either of them but I'll watch it.

Imagine if those 2 actually fought each other though.

Woeful matchmaking, what does this tell us about Hughie?? That he can go 12 rounds? He's already done that against the likes of Parker, Pulev and Povetkin, he needs to be in with someone with a style that blends well, Wach looked ok against Whyte I suppose but Whyte was morbidly obese

Couldn't agree more. We know Hughie can do 12 rounds, and Wach isn't going to pose too much of a threat. I suspect that Hughie wins fairly comfortable on the scorecards.

Wach moves like syrup these days so unless Highie decides he fancies a tear up, which should be long odds, this has unanimous bore points win all over it. Poor match making if anyone is interested in trying to get Hughie to adapt his game a bit

Good post. I doubt Hughie can stop him. It should be another tepid fight from Hughie. Wach has been stopped and is coming to the end of his career but I'd be surprised if Hughie could do it.

Highie never really steps on the gas unless he wants to or has too.. he looked dominant against Sexton and the other guy he fought earlier this year. Because he knows he can fight that way with those boxers.

It’s just a fight you can tell is gonna be a pain in the arse for Fury.

Very few people come out of a fight with Wach with people saying ‘he looked brilliant in there.’

I'm kind of hoping that Wach is now so slow and immobile, Hughie can tee off on him and score a good stoppage win. I like Hughie and want him to do well, and his career doesn't really need 12 rounds of tedium. A good stoppage would put him in decent stead for a better 2021.

Yeah just like Hughie usually tees off on his opponents with his devastating offence.

He will spend the entire fight on the back foot, retreating with his lead hand resting at hip height weaving side to side landing enough shots for a UD.

Ouch :OhYes: I know that mate, but surely you've heard of all these in the gym improvements that Peter has instilled into Hughie ?! I live in hope, but you are probably right.

Yeah every fight Peter says this is the fight where Hughie lets his hands go.

Oddly Savannah Marshall has a very similar style to Hughie Fury in terms of the movement and stance and that is enormously effective. I’d guess she has the power that Hughie is lacking.

As a fan I fail to get excited by this fight. It will be as exciting as watching paint dry.

I fully accept Hughie is young and has plenty of time to progress but Wach is a human punch bag who is difficult to shift. Wach spent weeks in the Hayemaker gum sparring David & wasnt the slightest bit bothered by Hayes power shots.

No spectators. Probably the same number would turn up to watch Hughie pre-Covid.

Probably it helps somehow, but his chin was always granite - he said that once he was hit by a baseball bat and remained standing.
