handsofstone wrote: 22 Nov 2020, 10:13 Another dubious looking finish but it was the left hook that done the damage, the right landed on the glove, Lartey was wobbled and backing up from jabs just before, it did look dodgy but Lartey was legit hurt, maybe he was hurt in sparring in the lead up??
He reminded me of Paul briggs after he took a jab from Danny Green and got hurt. Many called that a fix. I'm not too sure as I never followed up on the fight but Briggs definitely looked "hurt". The left hook landed but it didn't look to have much on it. Lartey was spread eagled on the floor and looked like he didn't know what was going on as the medics tried to help him recover. If he was legit hurt, he might need to get some brain scans after this.

He put on a banging entrance did Lartey, to his credit.
Briggs had been out the ring for 2 1/2 years before the Green fight, he'd retired in 2007 with a nervous system condition being given as the reason. Quite possibly he had suffered a brain injury from 2 epic fights with Adamek.
He was apparently getting bashed in sparring badly for the Green fight, looked awful , word got out and lots of money went on Green for early KO. It probably didn't help the fix theory that a biker gang put a huge amount on a 1st round KO.

The clues were there beforehand, Briggs old trainer wouldn't have anything to do with the fight, Fenech watched one sparring session and refused to train Briggs. NSW refused to sanction the bout because of medical concerns.
I just read an article from Briggs about the fight and he says he shouldn't have taken the fight due to being brain damaged from the Adamek fights.

Jeff Fenech is one of the straightest shooters in boxing. If I'd heard him saying that pre fight I'd have taken it seriously. I remember Mundine was challenging him to a fight and he made a show of Mundine on some joint interview they had. He was wearing a t shirt that had Mundine out cold from the Ottke fight on the back

Decent win for Wardley at this stage of his career. Lartey does seem to be one of those erratic types...one swing away from causing trouble or a punch away from going down & out.

Wardley was keeping his feet on the ground in the post fight interview and not getting carried away. Also wouldn't be drawn onto comparing his result against Dubois and didn't even mention Gorman.

Readily admits he needs rounds under his belt, so a British title shot could be a few fights away.

Wonder how long Lartey can dine out on landing a couple of hooks on Dubois. He's clearly crap and took a tumble on Saturday IMO.

Yeah the whole point of Brit prospects fighting him is comparing their performance to Dubois performance against him. Now that Wardleys done him in 2, other prospects are going to look bad if they don't do him early. No real point in having him over unless it's a fight against a Dave Allen/Nick Webb type who is going nowhere and it's just an entertainment fight.

Styles make fights for sure, but no one seems to be comparing Wardley's performance with Gorman. It's speaking volumes to me !

Seems like they are pushing for the British title next as the winner of Dubois vs Joyce will almost certainly vacate to chase a world title shot. Hearn said Dave Allen was being lined up to face Wardley for the British title next year but since he has now retired will probably be against someone like Nathan Gorman, Nick Webb or Kash Ali. I say the latter 2 as Gorman looked dreadful against Lartey and probably needs a few more fights and time to get in better shape. Wardley walks through the likes of Webb or Ali though.

No he hasn't.
But he did land a punch or two on DD during a moderately entertaining exchange on his way to getting stopped.

Since then, for some reason, he has had a bit of a 'potential dangerman' aura about him.

He is a bit of a character though, so I think people are just hoping he does something memorable in the ring before disappearing back into obscurity in the near future.

its probably more of a testament to the power and ability of Dubois than anything , at least Lartey fired back with a few big hits before being KO` D in style .
But that apart he hasnt offered anything that suggests he is worthy of another UK matchup .

Lartey just had a fight in Russia today and.... well judge for yourself on the video below. The question then becomes, did Lartey take a dive against Fabio Wardley?
