BoxRec Forum HW Top 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Pulev
Re: BoxRec Forum HW Top 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Pulev
My vote: no change.
Joshua inches closer to the #1 spot, but unless Fury keeps fighting stiffs he is still the king.

Cheers, that makes senseHeretic wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 03:12 I don't think this fight gave us any new info.
AJ did what he was supposed to do to the almost 40 years old Pulev.
MY vote. No changes.
If any of the up and comers beat Pulev they should get lot of respect and good ranking for it.
I think Yoka fight got an vote because Youka got quite many votes in the original ranking. I think he ended up on something like spot 17 on the original list. So voting on hes fight made a lot of sense. Also Hammer is now days better win then Wach. Nobody had Hughie in their top 15 so I don't think that him beating no one relevant changes a thing.

Heretic is right, Yoka vs Hammer was voted because Yoka ended up at #17 in the first voting, 6 out of 16 voters had him in top 15. For example, no one had Hughie, Wach, Bakole or Kuzmin in their top 15. Yoka fought a decent opponent and #15 Kabayel's record is far from stellar. For the same reason, Helenius vs Kownacki will get voting too.

Joshua stays at 2.
Pulev drops to 11, no shame in losing to a top guy like Joshua, but right now I think him and Joyce are going in different directions and should basically swap places.

That all may be true, but Fury is still undefeated and AJ is not.joshj909 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 08:55AJ's list of wins is superior than Fury's:
Wlad, Ruiz, Povetkin, Whyte, Pulev, Parker, Takam, Martin, Breazeale.
Vs
Wlad, Wilder, Chisorax2, Hammer, Wallin.
Using the the forum rankings, AJ has victories over fighters ranked 3, 6, 7, 9 and 10. Fury has wins over 4 and 13.
Re: BoxRec Forum HW Top 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Pulev
Everyone's undefeated until they lose. AJ has also overcome his loss, we give credit to other historical heavyweights for doing that, why not AJ? Is Lewis worse than a lower ranked undefeated guy because he lost to Rahman or do we credit the fact that he came back and beat him and we move him back up the rankings?oogiebe wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 18:22That all may be true, but Fury is still undefeated and AJ is not.joshj909 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 08:55AJ's list of wins is superior than Fury's:

Going 20-0 against lower level opposition doesn't make you better than someone who is 20-5 who beat the top guys. This highlights the cause in the issue of guys trying to stay undefeated and face bums because they're given too much credit for it.

You went off on a nice rant but, Fury is number one. AJ is number two. Right now, it is what it is.joshj909 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 19:35Everyone's undefeated until they lose. Personally I have no problem with anyone wanting to put Joshua at number 1.joshj909 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 19:35Everyone's undefeated until they lose. But just a few things, when Fury beat Chisora Chisora was at his peak in the rankings. He retired on his stool. Hammer in the next fight also retired on his stool. He then went to Germany and beat Klitschko on the score cards.
Then during a hiatus, Joshua was rightly regarded as number 1. But whilst Fury was getting a draw with Wilder in America (and the clear victim of home cooking) Joshua wasn't too long after being beaten conclusively by an unfavoured fighter in his first fight outside of Britain.
Joshua deserves credit for beating Ruiz. But whilst Joshua was going to an admittedly comfortable decision against Ruiz where he was still the clear A-side (with all the benefits that brings), Fury was busy dismantling Wilder over in America again as he knew he couldn't let it go to the cards.
Joshua has the better resume I agree. Fury easily has the better wins.
Personally I'm more annoyed that Wilder is still ranked at number 2 by the new formula boxrec introduced following Wilder's loss to Fury. It looks even more ridiculous now.

Wow, The new algorithim is trash. i actualy thought it was realy good about 2 years ago, no idea why they kept fiddling, but this is taking piss now.
p4p, Porter is above loma, inoue, Tank and usyk..... The algorithm favours longevity rather than quality now i think.

The new boxrec system system is terrible. I don't know why they have changed they previous one, this one is a disaster, BoxRec ranking makes no sense now. In past, have made a ranking of the best boxing countries in the world basing on BoxRec's rankings, but it doesn't make sense anymore.

You are right, the previous one was fine, current algorithm is a thrash. I still can't stand how much they have screwed it up.gregregegg wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020, 03:42Wow, The new algorithim is trash. i actualy thought it was realy good about 2 years ago, no idea why they kept fiddling, but this is taking piss now.

Re: BoxRec Forum HW Top 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Pulev
I gathered from the results of the change that they did it simply to change the top 3 heavies to the order they wanted but it messed everything up significantly. Making subjective changes like that are exactly what Boxrec's "Objective" ranking system is supposed to avoid.aicheligad wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020, 19:11You are right, the previous one was fine, current algorithm is a thrash.
