Easy to forget that the champion was absolutely poleaxed in one round earlier in his career

i think berchelt should pound valdez, though valdez have a corker of a left hook that gives him an outside shot of bailing himself out

man, that surprised me, valdez gave him some unhealthy punishment, easier fight for oscar than he's had against several lesser opponents
absolutely sick ko , and a lot of punishment for berchelt before that, not sure he'll be the same

Oh my word! WHAT a performance from Valdez that was. Opening three rounds Oscar looked the much sharper man and used his superior hand speed and footwork to score effectively before his outstanding left hook got through in R4 for the first knockdown. Berchelt was in serious trouble after this and his legs were seemingly gone but he somehow found a way to remain in the fight, even coming back to win R7 through sheer determination.
Valdez was occasionally pulling out straight back but on the whole his lateral movement was on point, scoring cleanly regularly upstairs with compact punches. Berchelt was eating plenty of power shots despite the lack of body work from Valdez and the referee was looking close to stopping proceedings before the OV left hook DETONATED in the last second of R10 to produce an incredible knockout. Great fight and well done to Valdez, proved me and many others wrong with a tremendous effort throughout.

Crazy performance by Valdez. Great accuracy, stamina and movement. Berchelt didn’t seem the same fighter as previously but that’s likely down to Valdez - he may need to move up a division if he continues to fight.
Would be a good fight for Kelly to watch in how to deal with a pressure fighter.

the judges cards are weird, 2 of them have berchelt winning after 3 even though valdez pretty clearly started better, but then none of them give him either the 6th or 7th when he looked to be coming back into it, the 7th i thought he even took clearly

Wow, brilliant from Oscar Valdez, I really wanted him to win that as a really nice guy, but that was one scary knockout - f*ck me. I guess the clue to this result was in the earlier first round knockout the champion suffered: he’s a sucker for the left hook - he really looked a bit shot in there tonight...
The champions corner should be ashamed of themselves, stepping into the ring too late & standing around like useless bums as their man is out for several minutes on the canvas. His legs were gone for a long time before that end.
Those Mexican warriors showing Josh Kelly what it’s all about,

Amazing watch.
Two warriors, ebbs & flows, slick production and the US commentary team was outstanding. Bradley was calling shots before they were landing and loved the corner interpreter.
That’s how it’s done.

Stunning KO from Valdez, thats a pretty big upset, i fancied Berchelt here but apart from rounds 6 and 7 when it looked like Valdez had gassed he was never in it, first few rounds were close neither guy fully committing themselves but Valdez sharper with the jab and was moving well, Berchelt not quick enough to impose his size and strength on the fight and he paid the price in the 4th, rocked badly with a left hook and wobbled several times in the same round before giving a count, Valdez kept calm though never fully commited to getting the KO but as i say by round 6 Berchelt found his legs again and was walking Valdez down and Valdez looked like he was unravelling, he was literally running away from Berchelt
Valdez was back on top by round 8, had Berchelt down from a quality combination in the 9th, the end looked near and sure enough Valdez slept him with the left in the next round, top drawer finish, best ive seen Valdez, he boxed, switched, stayed composed and apart from a lull in the middle rounds was dominant, showed his power as well

A masterclass from Valdez. Did exactly what he needed to do against the bigger guy and formidable opponent. Moved, swiveled, tied up and landed big shots around a quality fighter that wanted to go to war and outgun a guy known for going to war.

Great performance from Valdes
In and out boxing for the first half of the fight, but also having Berchelt all at sea in the 4th round. Perhaps should have been stopped by the referee because Berchelt had completely lost control of his legs.
Miguel kept coming and seemed to be getting through in the 6th & 7th rounds, but Valdes showed what a quality fighter he is picking up his boxing again and ending the fight with a devastating left hook.
Knockout of 2021 already sorted and it's only February

I’m thinking the ref let it continue after the 4th based largely on how much of a hard man Miguel had proved himself to be in the past. He had a great reign and was in some belters, can’t imagine him staying active for much longer.
Valdez was near perfect, the switch steps round the ring and a million little moves to get off the ropes. The left hook moving backwards and the decision not to invest in the body paid off well. Always good fights at this weight.
