Disagree or slightly short memory. Remember Joshua vs Whyte - they had load of documentaries, they even had an Gloves are Off for the Undercard. Haye vs Bellew the same and AJ vs Klitchscko - so much content.

FIght Camp also - Sky did a daily show from the bubble.

Sky are doing similar content for this - various behind the gloves episodes, gloves are off, showing the back catalogue of fights they have the rights to digitally (not on the main channels) and then the additional stuff on social/digital that they weren’t doing as much of for those shows you mentioned.

I'll agree to disagree. AJ vs Klitschko they had weeks of build up. Highlight reels of previous fights on the main channels etc. They used to do "Countdown" shows on the main channels and often repeated with Johnny and Adam in the ringside studio going through tactics etc . Often 3 before the PPV

They couldnt do as much for more recent ppvs for obvious reasons 1) Language and 2) Covid. But the fight camp 1 stuff was daily, even allegedly was mimicking Eddies karaoke and yes that was on SSN.

Plus for most of Eddie's 10 years they had a boxing magazine show which every week promoted Eddie's events.

I think their pushing of fights on the Sky Sports channels is similar to other recent big PPVs. Several shows and heavily pushed on Sky Sports News.

They’ve been using Sky Showcase on several of their non-PPVs since splitting with Matchroom which is the old Sky One so every person with Sky has access to it, it’s got a great position on their EPG which is also really important for viewer numbers and even non-Sky subscribers can watch. I pay for BT TV, don’t pay for Sky Sports but I got to watch the Eubank fight as Showcase is included in my package for some reason. I can’t remember for definite but I don’t think that was the case when Matchroom had shows airing on a couple of different Sky Sports channels.

The additional stuff for me though is how much more they’re pushing boxing on digital and social. Every time I go on Facebook these days one of the very first things I see is an article/ad/video from Sky Sports Boxing which certainly wasn’t the case 6 months ago.

Yeah, well agree to disagree. My mum uses her sky tv as basically freeview (pays no subscription at all) and I've tried and she cannot access showcase. Gets a message saying to phone a hotline etc. However I'm pretty sure she was able to get "Sky sports mix" which showed some fight nights in full. Memory is hazy though so maybe she also had the "hotline" message when calling that

Pretty certain the when AJ fought on the undercard of a PPV...Froch vs Groves 2? That fight was on Sky one.

Yeah - I don’t think you’d get any of the Sky channels unless you pay some sort of subs so I’d imagine you wouldn’t get showcase or SS Mix.

I think they put the AJ fight on as many places they could to push the PPV which makes sense to try and get those people on the fence re: the PPV. They’re doing the same this Saturday at 6pm - not sure what fight they’ll show with it.

Interesting. So they want to be a bookies and gaming app now? The money involved is astronomical. Way beyond my comprehension. If the richest man in the country sees the potential there must be some there. Nobody would throw that much good money after bad...would they!?

On a side not, gambling addiction is getting more and more of a problem. I think it's time that advertising for it was banned. It won't be, but it should be. The amount of degenerate gamblers gawping at their screens all the time is scary.

I worked in a bookies for a year when I was at University. I found it to be quite a depressing job although that was mainly for the machines (FOBTs) where people could burn through cash quick style. They’ve reduced the max bet on those which would have helped thousands of people.

I think we’re several years away from gambling adverts being banned but if it happens then it will impact the majority of sports. Most boxing shows are plastered with a gambling company on the ring and in the ad breaks and various sports/championships like the darts are heavily backed by gambling.

I fully supported it for cigarette companies being removed as advertisers in sport (when I was a kid I always just referred to the snooker world champs as the Embassy because it was so ingrained) as that has nothing but downside but the bulk of people who gamble are fine albeit there’s a growing minority that struggle.

Are they fine, really? I'm not so sure. Anybody who can put a bet on when they have children, for instance, has a problem IMO. I just don't understand why anybody would do it. They'll all say they can afford to lose what they lose but unless their children (or future children) are being given the best chance in life with a decent education, good food, extracurricular activities and, most importantly, time and attention the parents are degenerate IMO.

You could make that argument for anything though. Does someone who goes out and spends £30 on booze in a night have a problem? What about someone that spends a lot of money on clothes?

Gambling for a lot of people can be enjoyable. I’m putting my first bet of the year on the Khan/Brook fight tonight. It’ll probably another few weeks or months before I bet again. No big deal if I lose. One of mates earns £150k a year - he bets most weekends but the most he’ll bet on something is £5 and he’ll just do a football accumulator.

People can start like that and it turns into problems but the majority of people who put bets on don’t have an issue with it.

I work on a financial support team at a bank.

The worst are the one that’s constantly bet on their accounts even though they don’t have the money for it and know bills are going out, thinking if they keep putting down the £5, they’ll eventually win big. But it’s not the case.

Although Blavetnic is mega rich he’s just used 10% of his 40 billion fortune writing of DAZN ‘s debt , pretty sure he won’t be doing this again , Pressure is really on DAZN now turn this business around .

Yup, any sort of addiction is hard on everyone concerned , just think the betting thing has massive exposure , any sporting event is rammed with ads , free bets to get people roped in , I don't know what the answer is because I believe in a free society. You don't see so many ads nowadays for alcohol ( I know you get a few ) but I think it should be rained in a bit .

I will frequently bet 50p or a £1 on a football match or fight.

It’s just another form of entertainment, no different to buying a pint.

If I have a feeling about how something is going to go, I like to back it up in a definite way, no matter how small!
