Ali was a phenomenal fighter but an easily led empty vessel. Him fighting in Zaire was an utter disgrace (I know he was the challenger but he made it seem like a personal quest). Imagine the furore if Lennox had fought in Zimbabwe and broken bread with Mugabe.

Harry Carpenter and Reg Gutteridge were threadbare commentators with next to no understanding of the finer points of the sport, reliant on a mix of clichés and pre-prepared witticisms.

Foreman was counted out prematurely. And it was the end of the round.

I think I see it as unpopular because most MMA fans think the UFC structure is awful. They each have their own benefits and drawbacks I guess. UFC monopoly benefits the fans and the shareholders while the boxing model benefits the boxers pockets and individual promoters.

I don’t think most MMA fans think the UFC structure is awful. The structure is what makes it work so well but it makes the UFC’s owners wealthy and the revenue split of a show to the fighters is extremely low compared to boxing which gives guys like Jake Paul fuel to have a go and incentives to their fighters to jump over to boxing.

Joshua will lose to Usyk but could beat Fury and it’ll never happen.

i dont think george was counted out prematurely, the footage that usually does the rounds has bob sheridan on commentary messing up the count , which leads a lot of ppl to think it was early

george was down for at least 10 (he touches down at 11 seconds on the clock and is still down at 0) and i cant see where the refs off

I have often thought Carpenter's "spare" commentary was actually just "empty". Preferable in many ways, though, to the unceasing bilge you often get now
