You guys overestimate the HOF. If Ingemar Johansson was inducted, everybody can be inducted.
that was lara vs williams
Ingemar beat a then undefeated, undisputed, heavyweight champion of the world to win the title.SendoTakeshi wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023, 09:02 You guys overestimate the HOF. If Ingemar Johansson was inducted, everybody can be inducted.
Undisputed? At the time there was only one title anyway.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023, 12:37Ingemar beat a then undefeated, undisputed, heavyweight champion of the world to win the title.SendoTakeshi wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023, 09:02 You guys overestimate the HOF. You need to pick up a dictionary and look for the meaning of the word undisputed. Come back to me when you have.SendoTakeshi wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023, 12:46Undisputed? Can we start making a case for Andy Ruiz Jr. to also be inducted into the HOF?
AJ had more titles then Patterson![]()

Why do you keep saying this? Style: true. Also, what were his best wins? Trout (who was coming off a loss)? Vanes Martirosyan? Hard to make the HOF when those are your best actual wins. You should probably lose HOF votes if you won vacant titles vs Ramon Alvarez https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/445737 and Thomas LaManna https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/560657 Truly pathetic oppositionmargaret thatcher wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023, 14:28Why do you keep saying this? that said i agree that lara prob wont get in, very good boxer but his boredom style wont help him and his results are only boarderline
You're right, my mistake
lara's problems are that he's boring and has very few notable wins, we all know he shoulda beat williams but oficially it went against him, and official results matter more over time as people look more at records and less at the actual fight. he doesnt have any period of dominance to compensate for lacking a big result eitherRScarf1 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 08:51 I'll admit that Lara is borderline to get inducted, but I believe he will after his career is over. I know BoxRec ratings are not perfect, but Lara is No. 76 all-time middleweight. No. 74 Laszlo Papp is in the HOF. No. 81 William Gorilla Jones is in the HOF in the Old Timer category. After he fights Golovkin, even if he just goes the distance, it will help his resume. There are many boxers who are rated higher who are not in the HOF, but most didn't fight any big names. That is one of the flaws of the BoxRec ratings, but in the top 20 all-time middleweight ratings, everyone is in the HOF except for No. 14 Golovkin who is still active and No. 20 Gustav Scholz of Germany who was only European champion, never a world champion.
Also, this is an example of where boxrec's rating system is just plain silly. All of Lara's big fights were at 154. How can you be in the top 100 middleweights of all time for fighting and beating exactly two club-fighters at middleweight, Thomas LaManna, currently ranked 169th in the world at mddleweight, and Spike Sullivan https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/434752? I realize there are plenty of questionable HOFers but struggle to see how "almost" winning fights against good competition gets you there.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 14:01lara's problems are that he's boring and has very few notable wins, we all know he shoulda beat williams but oficially it went against him, and official results matter more over time as people look more at records and less at the actual fight. he doesnt have any period of dominance to compensate for lacking a big result eitherRScarf1 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 08:51 I'll admit that Lara is borderline to get inducted, but I believe he will after his career is over. trout, angulo , martirosyian.....might be his top 3
his record is also a bit patchy with the draws with molina and castano and marty scattered in, it's possible he'd get in but i think he's clearly on the weaker side as far as that goes
if lara's still good enough to beat g, someone should tell him to stop fighting utter crap. his best win in years is a guy david lemieux kod in a minute
I think it is because Lara is a middleweight right now. Arturo Gatti was a welterweight in his last fight, but he is rated No. 24 all-time in the super featherweight division. My guess is that BoxRec decides what division a boxer was best in as to what division to place them in after retirement. I don't think it is done automatically by computer. For boxers who are not as well known or not world-class, maybe they decide based on what division most of their fights were in.giacomino wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 17:12 Also, this is an example of where boxrec's rating system is just plain silly. I dont know man, GGG always delivered savage beating to runners
With you on Starling. He also beat future alphabet belt holder Lupe Aquino (who was always fun to watch) and Tommy Ayers, who was a super hot prospect at the time. IMO Starling beat a much better class of opposition than LaraRScarf1 wrote: ↑11 Feb 2023, 09:25I think it is because Lara is a middleweight right now. Regarding boxers almost winning fights against good competition, I'll give an example. Marlon Starling had two decision losses against Donald Curry and one of them was a split decision. Curry is in the HOF and Starling is not. Starling was one of the best welterweight champions of the 1980s. He defeated Simon Brown, Mark Breland, and Lloyd Honeyghan. He is rated No. 51 all-time welterweight on BoxRec. HOFer Carmen Basilio is rated No. 50. Curry was inducted in 2019. I think Starling should be inducted within the next few years.
I agree that Starling beat better opposition than Lara. Starling should have been inducted by now. How long does he have to wait?
They are both very much past their primes.Khash wrote: ↑13 Feb 2023, 09:55 You guys saw Lara in Prime vs young Canelo amd even though the argument that Lara beat Canelo is still ridiculous but that was his best performance and he lost to Canelo.
Now Lara is 39 as Golovkin is 40 thus to expect Lara to expect Lara to beat GGG is irrational and sacrilegious to boxing.
Golovkins only loss is the third fight against Canelo.
Lara cannot endure against GGG of he don't get KOed fluah he is gonna retire in the corner round 8 or 9
