I think this fight is gonna be very competitive.Bandog wrote: ↑25 Nov 2022, 22:57Interesting contrast in styles. I think Plant is an excellent boxer, more flashy, good feet. Benevidez is busier, more basic perhaps, but also a great boxer. I'm guessing it will come down to stamina with Plant, because he'll be on his bike. If DB catches up with him at some point he'll stop him. Too relentless, big motor.apollo creed wrote: ↑25 Nov 2022, 10:28 Imagine Plant outboxing the so hyped Benavidez. This fight will tell us how good Benavidez is.

Nice match up, I like this one and finally something to get excited about.
Likely won't buy it as ppv's have gone crazy and made me avoid the sport to a certain degree.
Way too many of them and most of the ones I see advertised are far beyond ppv worthy, and as for the cost they're in la la land if they think I'd ever buy one of them.
PPV's should really only be for the absolute top tier fights, I can't believe some people pay for these two bob mickey mouse you tube fighters, you couldn't get me to watch those for free let alone pay for one.

High quality matchup indeed.
My money is on Benavidez.
If he does win, I hope he can get the Canelo fight next.
He probably the last man standing at 168 that poses a legitimate threat to Alvarez.

Jermall Charlo Hoping He Faces Benavidez vs. Plant Winner
While 2022 might still be on the calendar, 2023 has Jermall Charlo’s full attention.
By and large, due to a nagging back injury and personal issues, Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) has been forced to sit idly by on the sidelines. His WBC middleweight title, though still firmly in his possession, has collected a considerable amount of dust.
With a return to the ring in his immediate plans, Charlo has a hunch that his run at 160 pounds is coming to an end. As the truculent Houston native surveys the landscape at 168 pounds, an intriguing showdown has landed steadily on his radar.
Although a date and venue have yet to be revealed, both Caleb Plant and David Benavidez have announced that a showdown between them will take place in the first half of the new year.
Admittedly, while he’s yet to dip his toe in the super middleweight division, Charlo indicates that he would love to swap fists with whomever emerges victoriously.
“Hopefully I get the winner,” said Charlo to FightHub TV. “If they wanna see me they gonna see me.”
Plant, a former IBF titleholder, bounced back nicely after suffering the first defeat of his career at the hands of Canelo Alvarez. The newly turned 30-year-old violently placed his rivalry against Anthony Dirrell to rest, stopping the 38-year-old in the ninth round earlier this year.
As for Benavidez, after making quick work of David Lemieux, the former two-time WBC titlist opted against taking on Jose Uzcategui in lieu of a matchup against Plant. In terms of who Charlo believes will come out with their hands raised in triumph, the former two-division champion paused for a moment while playing the countless possibilities of scenarios in his mind. After pondering to himself, Charlo blurted out his official prediction.
“Sh!t, I might go with Plant.”

PRESS RELEASE | BENAVIDEZ EXTENDS DEAL WITH SAMPSON BOXING
Sampson Lewkowicz announced that WBC interim super middleweight champion David “El Bandera Roja” Benavidez has renewed his exclusive multi-year promotional agreement with Sampson Boxing. The youngest super middleweight to win a world title, the now 25 year-old Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs), is actually a former two-time champion. The Phoenix-based slugger will face former champion Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant in March to decide the WBC mandatory for four-belt world champion Canelo Alvarez. Currently deep in training for the match, Benavidez says he’s happy to continue his promotional relationship with Lewkowicz. “I feel great re-signing with Sampson,” he said during a break. “I’m happy to continue with him and very appreciative for his help building my career from nearly the beginning.”
Father, co-manager and trainer Jose Benavidez says he’s thankful for the well-known promoter’s work on his son’s career. “He (Sampson) was the first to believe in David. Now, everyone wants to sign him. The reason we got those belts is because of the work he put in. We’re super exited to continue this journey and to be able to get these big fights.”
“The team that achieved the youngest super middleweight champ of all time is joined contractually and as a family,” said Benavidez’ co-manager David Garcia. “I’m looking forward to David achieving more than he ever has in the coming years.”
“I’m very happy to be able to continue this journey with ‘El Bandera Roja,’” said Sampson Lewkowicz. “David is in line for many big fights that will define his legacy as one of the greats and I’m very proud to be his promoter and for all he has already done and all he will do in the near future.”

Didn't actually think I would be in the minority voting Plant decision
Sure Bene has physical advantages, but I feel a cautious Plant can out box him as long as the fight with Canelo didn't take too much from him.

I voted Plant by decision. But would not put money on that. It all depends if Plant punches will affect Benavidez. If not, he will walk him down. But looking forward to this fight
Re: Caleb Plant vs. David Benavidez | PBC PPV - January 2023
Btw, reading comments everywhere how Canelo is scared of BEnavidez. Looking at his resume and youtube footage ...where all this hype came from ?

It’s only PPV so the fans can pay these muppets their purses.
It’s the only way we gonna get decent fights anymore.

Its crazy that average Joes are spending their hard earned "pennies" to make make some rich people even more richer.
The PPV scheme of raising money was an ingenious strategy and it worked pretty damn well bc so many people from the fighting industry got very rich.

They did.
However today's fans will have to pick and choose more carefully where they invest their monies.
This is not a bad fight on paper and Benavidez usually delivers more than enough entertainment.
I love the way he fights like a man on a mission of destruction.
Re: Caleb Plant vs. David Benavidez | PBC PPV - January 2023
PPV sucks, but boxing has been doing closed circuit matches in the 50's - 80's, theater stuff. They always find a way to get rich on big matches. Difference is today most aren't big matches.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑15 Dec 2022, 20:54I agree.KiwiRider wrote: ↑15 Dec 2022, 18:41I'll pay when it's worth it.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑15 Dec 2022, 18:03

Closed circuit for Ali-Frazier in 71 was between $11-$12
Which is around $73..
Here is a piece from a newspaper:
The 6,200 seats in the glamour location, Radio City Music Hall, were priced at, $20 and $25 and they sold out last week. They are priced at $30 at Washington's Hilton Hotel, also sold out.
That's nearly $200 today.

Bet there were some decent 50/50 undercard fights too.

maybe the promotors are also unsure if it will be worthy of a PPV hence no announcement .
its an undercard fight for me on a decent show but these two are not yet up there IMHO.

PBC not got the funds to make the fights.

I think it’s a great match up. Put a great card together and people will pay. It’s just the price that might hurt!!
I like Caleb in this one.
