Never seen him but a lot of the boxing channels I follow are saying he's the absolute business, one was saying he was holding his own with Okale sparring after school when he was 15!

He has a big conflict of interest. It’s part of the reason why the Ali act was brought in to boxing in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Does Francis have any fighters that are with a big promoter other than his dad?
There’s no Ali act over here as you know and that is a nonsense anyway when you look at the carry on with Haymon/PBC and all there shadow companies etc.

Let’s not create an issue which doesn’t exist. Moses is in good hands and he would have received a very serious package to sign no matter who manages him. He probably would have got a sports brief to over see it anyway. No I think all of Francis top talent are with his dad, but he works with the small hall promoters on the lesser names.

It’s the same carry on with Tony Simms/Matchroom.
Yeah - the PBC take the piss with it. Does it really help their fighters though? Given how inactive the majority of the stable are, I’d argue not. If the fighters had more leverage then perhaps we’d see them fight more regularly or in better fights.

It’ll only be an issue when his contract comes up for renewal.
American boxing is a mess for inactivity. Nobody is forced to chose which manager/outfit to go with though, so they are getting what they signed up for. I rarely hear any of them complaining, so I would imagine that Haymon is still paying very well.

Moses choose to go with Francis knowing that means Frank is going to be the promoters.

SJAM, 258 etc would have all wanted to sign him, so he had options.

I would imagine the contracts run alongside each other if he wants to get away when it expires.

His Brother Karol though is obviously in the same set up, and he has been pushed very hard on big shows and is on course to be a star in his own right.

Moses will no doubt have taken comfort with that. They’re saying he is going to make his debut on the Beterbiev-Yarde card which will draw a very high TV viewership and it’s on ESPN in the states, so he‘ll be off to a great start.

If he is hitting such a high standard at an early age, better to go pro now and not burn out in the ams.

Saying that 24 fights doesn't show a lot of experience, despite winning everything!

The quality sparring obviously has gone a long way.

he reminds me a lot of michael dokes, carries himself the same way, with very fast hands, shorter punches, and good body and combo work. looks similar sized too, even has a bit of the fro and big forehead

between the worlds and euros he won 6 of his 8 fights by stoppage, 5 in the first round. twice stopped the worlds runner up. so quite dominant in his age bracket indeed. hopefully they dont put him on the same can crushing diet as karol and instead match him more like azim has

older bro karol has fought opposition with 58 wins from 340 fights, hopefully it's at least better than that

Nothing more than an educated guess on my part, but have to wonder if Karol has been so protected to date to ensure Moses would sign up as well - giving older brother the best possible treatment is surely the easiest way to guarantee younger brother with the greater potential opts for the same route. Not quite a loss leader, but you get my point...

I don’t think Karol needs to have been as protected as he has been. He’s talented.

I think it helps the fact Frank have put Karol on the big shows. TV slots on both of Fury’s PPVs. They’d have been the most watched shows on BT by a mile last year.

Karol Itauma looks a really exciting prospect, but his "contest" against Tamas Laska in 2021 was one of the worst pieces of matchmaking I can remember (it's a crowded field tbh). Laska had been stopped early by Archie Sharp and Ryan Garner weighing 131lbs a couple of years before.

If this sport was in a better place he'd be fighting Willy Hutchinson on the Beterbiev-Yarde card, but no, they are both fighting for nonsense titles on the same night :brick:

I agree, hence thinking only rationale for matching him so soft is to keep everything buttoned up to ensure younger bro follows the same path.

Karol Itauma v Hutchinson would be a bonkers matchup at this point. Itauma is a blue chip prospect, on his 7th fight.

Willy is also still recovering from the Clarke defeat and is a talent who can go on and have a good career.

It’s a potential fight for down the road.

Hutchinson v Markic on the undercard is actually a good fight anyway.

Itaumas last opponent on the Fury card was also ok matchmaking IMO. The guy was durable , nearly lasted the distance and he had a decent technic and actually threw some shots back.

I’m Interested to see who Karol’s opponent will be on this card.

This is why boxing matchmaking infuriates me - down the road rarely happens. And heaven forbid that a blue chip prospect engage in anything approaching a 50-50 fight on their way up.

Defeats are part of sport, other combat sports manage not to cocoon fighters until "big fights". Maybe if Hutchinson had a few studier challenges on the way through maybe he wouldn't have fallen apart as soon as someone (Clarke) put it back on him.

We need to break out of the "defeats are catastrophic" way of thinking and push for better matchmaking all through a card, not just the main event (if we're lucky).

For a 7 fight prospect the opponent was fine IMO.

We'll have to politely disagree then, esp. given the context that Itauma was a gold medallist at the Youth Olympics.

Yeah, cool - let’s agree to disagree. As I was saying though, Im interested to see the opp for this first 10 rounder and belt on the card.

If it as step back, or same level then I will critique it as necessary.

Talk about hype - Boxing News editorial seriously mentioning Mike Tyson's record when introducing Moses before he's even thrown a professional punch. Surprised they didn't make him fighter of the year ahead of Catterall!

Let the kid have a few fights before cracking one out, surely. Could be like Mike Tyson or could be Mike Holden. Watching with interest now though.
