Fury has arguably surpassed Wladimir's accomplishments already or at least is on par with them. If he reigns a few more years, and gets the other names that are missing on his record in the Win column it elevates him greatly.

Yeah, I had forgotten Byrd actually. That's a good call.

Although I don't consider McCline and Oquendo to be particularly impressive wins.

Oquendo deserved the nod against Byrd, and he beat McCline by like 1 point. McCline was a funny dude to behold, a big hulking man that seemed to have a real confidence issue.

Yeah I'd say he's at least right there with Stiverne. Stiverne won a title which McCline never quite did, but I can easily see McCline being capable of beating a guy like Stiverne.

Mercer and Rahman were shot by the time Wlad fought them. Both of them had had their best years more than 5 years before the time they stepped in with Wlad.

Tyson and the Furys are husters. He got an awkward decision over a 39 year old Klitschko and with the PEDs controversy which was quickly brushed aside. Then used the mental health comeback story to sell his trilogy fights with Wilder, who the entire boxing community recognised as being one of the worst heavyweight champions in terms of actual boxing ability in recent times. Also quite a mentally vulnerable guy, allowing Fury and his family to pull some wool over his eyes. The Furys know how to control their opponents. The three Wilder fights also generated even more interest because of the U.S vs UK dynamic, and racial elements, which helped Fury's name grow even more globally.

I do rate Fury, he's great for his size and knows how to enage an audience, but I'd rate him even more if he fought some of the young lions of his time.

I think Fury ranks in the mid 20s. A win over Usyk would push him up in the teens. If he cleaned up Usyk, AJ, Ruiz, Zhang the maybe top 10.

If he beat Usyk, and retired. He'd be Rock solid Top 10 off of that alone IMO. Right now he'd easily be in the Top 20 all time for sure. His accomplishments are already better than many past Heavyweight Champions. Objectively.

He's got a long way to go to top the accomplishments of the cream of the crop obviously, but your guys like Marciano, Dempsey, Mike Tyson, The Klitschko's, Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, Riddick Bowe.

His record as Champion stacks up favorably against those guys, and he's still reigning.
