Fuk! I thought Mosley was around 30-33 y/o but not almost 40's. Floyd was a master of timing and cherrypicking.lol
So, after Mosley and Cotto beat Mayorga and Margarito-good profile names, then FMJ jumped to get the fight? Where was FMJ when Cotto beat Mosley in 2007 ? Ricky Hatton ?
It's funny how for all the "He's a Cherry Picker" arguments you hear.
He's still got a deeper resume than anyone of his era except for maybe Pacquiao in terms of quality of opposition.
Well yes, but you have to agree that he was a master of timing?! I mean c'mon, FMJ was very clever in having all the advantages on his side. Ok I could understand the narratives that he liked to build up the demand/hype or he didn't want to give Arum or Oscar big paydays but I think everybody would've loved to see FMJ fighting Cotto and then MP in 2008.
I'm sure they would've. There's very few guys that wind up stepping in with every single big name of their era exactly when everyone thinks they should. Especially in the modern era when everyone only fights 2 to 3 fights a year if we're lucky.

Yup, there are lots of champions that fought some top prime opponents. AJ too, Canelo, GGG, Jacobs, Thurman vs Porter/Garcia, Brooks vs Porter, Matthysse vs Garcia, etc

Wladimir maybe. Vitali missed a lot of big names of his time. Buster pretty much made his money from 2 fights, and ducked out of the sport.
You're trying too hard to not give the guy any credit, and actually building up people who did less and took less risks.

Decent? He has a far better resume than Usyk but Usyk has been anointed the Boxing Jesus this week by the heavyweight fan boy brigade. I was not a huge fan of either, but he and Manny have amazing resumes. As does Marquez from that era. And Mosley

Floyd fought Cotto in the first fight Cotto had as a free agent after Cotto left TR. That was no coincidence.
We can all agree that Cotto got robbed of glory when he got beat by a plaster using Margarito and then got weight drained against Pacquiao and didn't even have a full time trainer.
IMO Floyd vs. Cotto was the real super fight, Cotto just had some bumps in the road and had some unfortunate twists in his career.
I still have my suspicions of the legitimacy of Pacquiao moving up all those weight classes naturally. That's despite me being more fond of Pacquaio and appreciating him more now than I used to.

I think he was taking a combination of HGH and EPO. HGH to grow and EPO to increase red blood cells, put more oxygen in his blood so he could train harder, longer and recover faster.
Hell even Roach spoke about his concerns and his suspicions with Arizas special shakes.

USYK didn't make FURY weigh in @ 152 pounds like floyd did to CANELO! ---and they still called it a 154 pound title fight!

Pacquiao had 145 limit for Cotto
Canelo used 155 for his middleweight run and then jumped to 168
It is not unprecedented

maidana mauled floyd and won several rounds in their first fight, but never really hurt him that i can recall. more like swwarmed him with work rate in the first half. i think i had maidana up 4-2 at halfway, though he tired himself out and mostly got picked apart 2nd half, so ended up with floyd winning 7-5. it was a great effort and maidana got rewarded with only an md loss plus a big money rematch for it
Hmm should watch it again, it's been a long time. Didn't Maidana bite him in the rematch
- Boxrec boys tend to conveniently fergit stuff about TBE TUE, but first round of the second fight, almost immediately Maidana walks little floydy to the ropes to fake a right to the body that drops his guard. Maidana has obviously practiced the fake to pull up his right up seamlessly to crack him square on the jaw. Stunned, he immediately grabs Maidana that Bayless has to break up. On the break little floydy immediately backs straight into another rope off balance to bounce off hard and down on the canvas completely immobilized.
Bayless rushes over to push Maidana who is standing over him and freezes as he cannot comprehend that this was a classic delayed knockdown as no other punches but Maidana's crack across his jaw has landed. After a long while Bayliss helps him up, wipes his gloves just like a KD, and little floydy immediately spoils to ride out a long round.
Some time midrounds when little floydy has Maidana in a choke hold, he has his other glove jammed in Maidana's mouth, hence "The Gumshield Bite" where little floydy runs squalin' to he crack daddy about his lil pinky being gummed completely mystifying Bayless again, a clear DQ for stopping the fight by running away, ie turning his back.

little floydy one of my favorite topics, so thanks guys

I mean I think about it every day basically
There's two good punches from what I remember, and one makes Floyd's knees dip and you think he's going to go down but doesn't? It showed Floyd had a chin to go along with the rest of his skillset.
The rest of the fight is pretty one sided after that, no? Isn't there a lot of shit talking between them as they fight?
Remember you used to be able to order boxing compilation DVD's? I think I had it on one of them. Then all fights just ended up on Youtube anyway, didn't they?

If instead of Weeks/Bayless, it was Smoger, Floyd would've been hammered pretty badly by Maidana. FMJ had his best buddies inside the ring to save him from a nice brawl. lol

I am not arguing against Mayweather being very selective, but Wilder didn't fight anybody dangerous in his first 36-37 fights. Did his prime start after that?

It was different times then. I don't think we will ever see that again.
I even doubt most commissions would sanction a 157 pound fighter fighting for the 175 pound championship. I may be wrong but I don't think I am
