The more boxing on terrestrial tv the better but we all know the BBC won’t be paying much. Shalom will need to work hard to push the shows because the BBC won’t offer close to the same publicity that Sky do.
The only way I can see this working for Boxxer and their stable is if the BBC shows are used for their lower level fighters and it’s supplemented by shows on Sky still. Small number of fights on a show with the BBC and headlined by something like a British title. Then 6 shows or something on Sky with bigger names and budgets.
While the BBC won't pay anywhere near sky money, it is still an opportunity to maximise revenue elsewhere, obviously ticket sales but also sponsorship, from the ring apron to tattoos on the fighters back!
If women's football can get 7.4 million, a good promoter should do more
It’s not that simple. The BbC are a lot tighter on advertising than Sky and your way off thinking boxing could get more than 7.4m based on BBC’s likely budget.
It’s unlikely the BBc will show live boxing before 9.30/10pm and it won’t get close to the same pre publicity that the women’s quarter final received.
Wonder what the viewing figures are for the rubbish matches they're showing at prime time at the moment compared to a decent boxing show at the same time ?
How can you say the penalty shoot out was rubbish?
Pure Benny Hill
As proven , the standard is pretty woeful.
I must’ve watched this 100 times and I still can’t work out which team is kicking which way

They are going to need a good promoter!
I know there aren't adverts on the BBC, but wouldn't a promoter be allowed to have adverts in the ring, on kit etc?
Nevertheless the BBC is still the best platform to build a fighter as it's free.
I think Benji will struggle because he will have to promote it himself, and won't have the sky machine doing it for him.

A TV licence ain't free Coco , if that's what you're referring to .

Yeah - they’ll be able to advertise on the canvas, toblerones and kit but they won’t be able to get the more expensive ad income like a show sponsor.
I actually disagree with BBC being the best platform. It’s only the best if they give plenty of shoulder content and really push the shows and fighters. Actually spend money pushing the show digitally and also advertise it between other shows.
Channel 5 is also free and can get 1m+ viewers but has a star or name fighter ever been properly built on channel 5 in the last 5 years? I’d say no because they don’t do anything else other than show the fights.
To me, Sky remains the best platform. It’s a shame if they drop out.

this feels like a major comedown, probably further back than when he had Boxxer tournaments on Channel 5. Are Sky out of boxing altogether then?

Not sure buddy.
Hopefully not. There was a fair bit of talk that certain fighters had deals directly with Sky so it remains to be seen how it will play out.

You’re not being serious?
I mean the budget would be a fraction of what Sky were getting surely.

Every boxxer probably wants to leave. i would imagine. Show no loyalty you only got a short window as a boxer.

Boxxer don’t have anything to offer Buatsi now really and he’s not a big seller.
Will be interesting to see what happens to the guys Boxxer have built like Azim and Whittaker.
I think it’s a worrying time for boxing. As far as I’m aware no shows confirmed for Top Rank or on ESPN, nothing confirmed for PbC or on Amazon and nothing confirmed by Sky Sports/TNT or Boxxer.

Don't be surprised to see both end up at Qberry. Everyone thinks Matchroom a done deal for Whittaker, but FW is also interested.

Boxxer being on BBC iPlayer from Sky Sports is an absolutely massive comedown. Surely, the top fighters they have will have something in their contract about being allowed to leave without the Sky deal?
I thought Sky might have kept Boxxer on the platform, and just lowered the money. They still have Whittaker, Azim, Simpson, Big Fraze, Buatsi, CBS, C. Dubois and L. Price.
When you look back over the time they spent on Sky Sports, it's very rare they were put in any big fights against names that the public know. It's ultimately left most of the shows uninspiring, constant promises of big things to come that fell flat, pulling out of purse bids and avoiding fights the public would get behind.
I hope Boxxer haven't pocketed large amounts over the period from Sky and kept it back from the fighters, so to speak. Or maybe they just signed the wrong boxers.

It’s looking really bleak for boxing in this country if Sky & TNT aren’t interested. Everything on DAZN is not good.

Boxxer put a statement out that Buatsi’s contract with them ended with the Smith loss. Was probably a clause, if he lost. Most promoters do that. You lose, you lose the contract.

Think it was just the end of the contract. The contract details are out there somewhere re number of fights etc.
Buatsi was a disastrous decision for them in the first place. Not much of a needle mover, very expensive, and prompted a lawsuit from Matchroom which Sky Sports also got dragged in to.
It's all moot now though. Won't be affording any expensive purses for anyone post Sky. My expectation is that there will be a mass exodus coming up.
Some people think it all should have happened by now, but things don't move that fast. Takes time to negotiate new deals, get the paperwork done and signed etc, then formal signing announcements to schedule.
My money is on seeing more movements in the coming weeks.

Dazn have just got Serie A for next season, which is a huge boost so I have something other than boxing to watch for my sub.
Is Sky still the force it was? I'd be interested to see their viewing figures and I'd think Ch5 blow them out of the water.

Channel 5 is freeview though. But it’s the case off, will they pay big for boxing.
With Sky, it was probably less than 5% of their subscribers that actually subbed just for boxing.
Majority sub to Sky for Football, cricket, F1, heck even NFL probably
They probably won’t lose any subs for not showing boxing. Plus most big fights were in PPV anyway, which Sky actually benefitted from.

I’d be willing to bet they also spent a big chunk on Anthony Yarde’s keep busy fight.
The impression I had was that Queensberry had matching rights but wouldn’t get close to the same money for the type of fight Yarde had.
That would have only made sense if they then make Yarde/Buatsi but as we know that didn’t happen.
Interesting times ahead.

Are you seriously asking if Channel 5 is more of a sports powerhouse than Sky Sports...?
