Ex boxers can be prone to violence after retirement . The whole CTE thing isn't just slurring and forgetting.
That is true, and im surprised his defence didn't go down that route instead of the gym owner doing bits for the community spiel
Something about head trauma damaging the frontal lobe
Isn't CTE diagnosis only possible post-mortem?
It's easier to confirm in a post mortem examination.
But fairly recently Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans had been able to detect abnormal protein build ups in the brain. Early days, but this has been backed up a few times post mortem. Which is a horrible way to back up findings.
Also Structural MRI scans are able to show scarring on the brain, but that doesn't always mean CTE, and to define it requires a post mortem examination.
So I would say you can get two types of scan and say with some probability that CTE is present.

i think he had his heart broken by boxing. it took so much from him and he walked away with nothing. his defence was fornicating shocking, just walking forward behind a high guard, i always felt it spelled trouble in later life. no excuse tho, scummy behaviour.

People with the style of John Murray, Ricky Hatton and even Mike Tyson. If they didn't come forward and "be first" they were not effective at all. With those three you know - get them on the back foot and they are beaten. Easier said than done though.
I’m not sure I’d quite put Hatton in that group. His boxing versus Urango for example was pretty masterful. Although he obviously relied heavily on that punch and clinch style for the most part against the better opposition.
I always thought Ricky could have done a lot better versus Pacquiao if he hadn’t tried to hunt the hunter. Manny barely managed to score such a devastating win again in his career.

Tyson and Hatton in their primes were several levels above the likes of Murray with respect.
The difference was head movement. Tyson in his prime was actually very difficult to hit clean.
Really sad to hear about Murray. Seemed like if he had the right support when he was boxing and after boxing things might not of turnt out this way.
I'm not excusing his behaviour absolute horrible inexcusable thing he has done. But when your life has gone to absolute sh!t (he had no money, blind in one eye), you're on the edge a lot of the time and more prone to do daft things that you were unlikely to do were your life a little more stable.

I thought that, due to the nature and the fact hes an ex boxer, wouldlnt have been surprised to have seen a 6
That c**t who dressed up as spiderman and punched that poor asda worker got a 6
Mitigating factors somewhere along the line must have played a blinder
Sentencing in the UK is all over the place though some people get a touch and others you think will get off half light then whacked

There is definitely no consistency.
Stuart Hall abused kids and only served 18 months….
I worked with John when he turned over under Joe Gallagher, who he was very close to.
This doesn’t sound like him at all. He was really polite, easy to work with and very funny - remember when he wowed with a speech at the Boxing Writers Dinner.
Seemed to have the world at his feet.
i find this thread very sad. I was with Frostie when john tirned pro….

Disgraceful that isn't it
Said it loads of times but things like that often shock you how lenient the sentencing is, then you see someone try and get hold of a few quid and then get a real stiff sentence.

Thought you meant Stu Hall the boxer for a second and did a quick google search to check it wasn’t true!
ya unfortunate name, when i first heard of it my first thought was the boxer too . imagine sharing your full name with a famous pedo
one of my 'hot takes' is that hall shoulda won the 2nd fight vs lee haskins. haskins basically jerked and jived and danced and pranced around and somehow the judges loved that nonsense. hall at least diligently pressured.
