If he was still with SN, who do you reckon his next opponant would be then? Presumably FMJ, Cotto or Castillo?

Aye, right

So why did Showtime pay all the money for him to get Tszyu to the UK if he was a patsy English prelim fighter and they hadn't taken any notice of him?

Listen Ricky had hard fights against Kosta and Maussa.

To me Freitas as his first fight as a headliner in the US is ok as long as he fights a 'big one' soon i think the criticism is harsh

Boxing Chat - if hatton was still with SN you would be defending the match
If Hatton was still with SN he'd be rematching Pedersen. :o

No, he took too much persuading and wanted, demanded an extra £100k for him last time. Don't aim until you know the target!
Was that the fight where he was fighting Pinto but someone had forgotten to tell Pinto?

No the one where Pinto signed the contract and didn't get on a plane!

Is DHP a better fighter than Pinto then and worthy of £100k extra?

Do you know you're arse from your elbow?

I'm talking about the American fans, not the American networks. And anyway, Showtime only came knocking when he'd built his reputation as the best british prospect, not when he was a 2-0 undercard fighter.

Check the facts, Pinto agreed to the bout but never signed anything. Dear old Frank left the back door open for them. ;)

Only know what I read in court statements.

Agreeing to the purse then your mate reducing it by £100k after the change of opponent even though all the tickets already sold? tut tut

Anyway, you may be right about Foxwoods, it's either there or NY. 13 May, no opponent yet but def not Freitas given Art P is big mates with Frietas and has admitted Hatton would batter him.

Spot on, Main Events confirmed that.

Did they?

ShoBox, HBO's ThunderBox and even a ABC slot?

Don't the fans watch TV in then US then do all those millions for PPV fights come from ticket sales then? F###K me Tyson and Holyfield must have fought in 1m capacity venues and filled them!

Yeah right, you know your onions?

It was all over the press at the time of the pullout, I remember it vividly. Please feel free to check the facts. Pinto never signed a fight contract.

It's actually the perfect fight for Hatton when using the criteria of career defining.

Explain? Do you mean (Tszyu apart) his career will be defined as a cash making exercise?

Freitas was a good 130 was an average and fading 135 and will be a shot fighter at 140.
I meant if he would only take 3 more fights before he retires, Freitas is the perfect opponent to define his career.

To be fair to Boxingchat, this is not a great fight

I can see why it makes sense, however. An opponent with a decent recognition factor but who offers the chance for RH to look good at a lower risk. A solid base on which to begin building his profile more in the US.

That being said, a shopworn opponent whose best days are behind him and at a lower weight. I wonder where they got that idea from?

Hatton was a heavy favorite in everyone of his fights bar Tszyu.

Fair enough, his first defence was a gimme and he was something like a 10-1 favorite.

But taking another over the hill slam dunk at 10-1 is taking the piss really.

Try making this a PPV and they'll likely come unstuck.

I seem to recall from my chat with Stephen Heath that there wasn't an actual contract, but rather something which amounted to a legally binding document. I forget what form it took now but I do recall that it wasn't an actual contract.

I've also heard it from other sources, though of course this does not amount to fact, that the reason that Pinto never got on the plane, was that Hatton demanded more money at the last minute, and Pinto's manager told Hatton to procreate with himself.

As legally binding as Ricky Hatton's contract with Sports Network then? :o

I hate to put a negative spin on this, but i remember reading on the current scene it was likely going to be Naoufel Ben Rabah then Freitas.

But it was from the current scene :-?

This is what i was trying to say. Slapsie just have better grammar than I am. :TU:

Yes, obviously fans watch fights on tv, but if he wants to start packing out arenas and selling huge PPV numbers in the US, he has to make a statement in his first fight over there.

Hmmmm, I might be starting to agree with Boxingchat.

While Hatton's free to find bigger offers, it was SN that got him to the top being hard free, yet he complained that he got too many hard fights? :-?

So he wants easy fights? Come on your supposed to not have it easy!
