Tyson's weakness in the later rounds is mental. If Rocky is still there resisting his attack and coming on stronger then Tyson will dig in only to find that Rocky won't budge. It is at this point that Tyson will want a way out.

Tyson was a formidable force of nature though and can blow opponents away. I'm undecided.

I think its possible mike could be stopped just as well early after getting tagged with a huge right as is mike getting TKO'd late

however my pick is mike
I based the late round stoppage by Marciano on the fact that Mike was known to get discouraged and tire in those rounds. With all of Mikes upper body movement, Rocky wouldnt hit him flush early. Mike had a great chin and I think even if Rocky connected, Mike wasnt budging at first. I didnt judge the stoppage on Rockys latter fights, although he was just as dangerous in the 12th as he was in the 3rd. I see what you are saying, and I just wanted to make sure you know why I said what I said.

If Rocky could survive the first 5, I would give him a shout.

However, Tyson was too big & fast for him. I reckon a Tyson TKO in about 4.

I dont care how much heart he had, Marciano would be lucky to survive the first round. Tyson was bigger srtonger faster hands and feet and was more durable. He would land first more often and with devastating effect. Walcotts hook would feel like a love tap compared to Tysons. The great heart Marciano displayed would never factor into the fight.

prime mike tyson is one of the most devastating heavyweights ever and had a great attacking arsenal and speed.
but i think IF rocky could either avoid tysons power (i know that wasnt rocks style) or absord the punishment for three or four rounds he would turn it into a war that mike could not win.
and would likely stop him late.

btw what if marciano decked tyson in the first round instead of the other way around? would tyson be intimidated by rocks power?
i think yes

A couple observations. I think sometimes boxing fans opinion of Tyson being washed up coinsides exactly with the point in time that he stopped moving his head after throwing punches. This is when he started getting tagged. When he neglected to do this and he loaded up with one punch at a time, neglecting the jab,he looked very ordinary. He looked at times to be "washed up". Now if he fought in this manner against Marciano ,it would come down to who nails who first. Two guys trading bombs.

How can you say Holyfield wasn't battle scarred against Tyson?... ofcourse he was past his peak. Tyson wasn't 100% but neither was Holyfield by a long shot. Most people feared for Holyfields health when the fight was made, ...this was after the Bowe fights, and the Moorer fight... Holyfield was a long way past his best, you only need to look at his old fights to see that. Ali fought his greatest battle against George Foreman but few would claim that he was at his peak anymore, same with Duran vs Barkley, probably his greatest performance but he was still past his peak.
That is one of the things missing from Tysons career that holds him back from greatness, he never came from behind to win, he never avenged a loss, and he never upset the odds and pulled off a great victory when he'd been written off.....[/quote]

Totally agree silkov. I think Marciano would withstand the first 5-6 rounds and after that Tyson would usually self destruct. Once he knew he couldn't bully or intimidate Marciano then Marciano would come back and gradually wear Tyson down winning by a late stoppage. Tyson was destructive for 5 rounds but after that he was very beatable. Quite a few fighters have said that if you stood up to Tyson for 5 rounds then you could beat him. Douglas for one and Williams, I know Tyson was shot, said he has never been hit so hard but he hung in there to win. Marciano is just tougher mentally and physically. I think he would intimidate Tyson not the other way around and when that happened Tyson would ususally get beat!
