Mike McCallum was also a complete fighter that NEVER had the chance to prove his best skills vs the FAB FOUR: Duran, Hagler, Leonard and Hearns
Was Ali a complete fighter???
Is Oscar DeLahoya a Complete fighter???
Your thoughts on this???
What is a COMPLETE FIGHTER in your view
There's a big difference between years and mileage. Leonard may not have been at his absolute best but he definitely wasn't the battle-worn fighter Hagler was. Mileage takes a lot out of you. That's why Foreman was able to come out of retirement and do as well as he did. He'd retired before putting too much mileage on his meter, as did Leonard.DoubleM wrote:We all know that. I was making sure people knew Hagler was past it, because many of them think he was in his prime. All they bang on about is how Leonard came back from retirement to beat a tyrant, when really that tyrant was ready for retyrant - I mean retirement.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:ya but so was leonardAlthough it must be noted that he was well past his prime by the time Leonard got to him
I still love that quote from Leonard after Marvin beat Sibson: "I sure am glad I'm retired. I didn't know Marvin could box like that!"
Yeah Right. But as soon as he starts to look vulnerable(vs. Mugabi)...SURPRISE!! Suddenly he'll fight him....
For years he claimed that Hearns "wasn't worthy" of a rematch. But when Tommy looks old and vulnerable vs. James Kinchen...GUESS WHAT?? Suddenly Tommy is worthy!
I couldn't stand Ray Leonard. What a coward....
Ok 10 rounds for Leonard and 2 rounds even so Hagler was a C class boxer overrated, the biggest joke in middleweight history and a fool with no balls.Decagon wrote:Boy, he sure spanked Hagler, though. I kind of agree with that one judge that gave Leonard 10 rounds.
Accepting the fights under conditions so Leonard can run all night long in 12 rounds (b/c the old Hagler would have KO him at the 13 or 14 round), with a larger ring and with something like 20 pounds power ankle hang to his balls.
And still, i think he won the Leonard fight.
