For all the talk of number 1 in Europe, he'd be allot bigger if he hadn't neglected some of the prospects that he has in the past.
Hatton leaving SN wouldn't have hit them as hard if they didnt put all their eggs in 1 basket
They never felt Witter was worth investing in, becuase he cant sell tickets.
I dont blame them either. Witter is very poor Box - Office wise.

Empty houses, many times unless he was the undercard and the other fighters sold the tickets. He's as popular as a turd in a lift.

Terence wrote:Boxchat, you may or may not work for Warren; you may or may not have some kind of grudge against the Hatton's; I don't know you well enough to speculate but this strand is a little bit sad. Warren's whole demeanour since the Hatton affair is also a little bit sad.
Bear in mind that Frank claims be the #1 promoter in the UK (and he is right in terms of power and pull). Frank also claims that it was his skill as a promoter that made Hatton a lot of money. He also seems to claim that he made a lot of sacrifices to get Hatton his belts and just as they got the license to print money (the Linear title) Hatton legged it leaving Frank fiscally challenged.
Now answer me this, how can Warren not have gotten his golden eggs out of a goose that filled a 16, 000 or so seat arena fight after fight (judging by your past form I assume that at this point you'll quote me and tell me how many people the MEN holds down to the last person yet that will be missing the point, Ricky sold the place out and it is a big venue)?
Moving on from this what is the main problem Warren has with Hatton? Lack of loyalty? In that case explain the SN policy of jettisoning fighters who lose two consecutive fights. Loyalty is not a cul-de-sac (unlike this thread). Diminished earning capacity? Simple Frank just needs to build another 16, 000 fan fighter up to make up the shortfall. Or is Frank just pissed that Ricky is now guiding his own career? If so then bear in mind that his career will soon be winding down and he spent a few years pissing his prime away fighting the likes of Steven Smith (no disrespect to him intended) whilst Warren claimed that Witter was not a big enough draw to make a fight with Hatton viable. In which case how did he explain Smith? Hatton could have fought anyone and drew at the MEN. So if we accept that Hatton is in the endgame zone of his career and only has a few prime earning years left and on the other hand Warren could have another decade left shouldn't Frank be pragmatic and say Ricky learned a lot from me and I wish him well?
What is stalking Ricky going to achieve? A court-sanctioned stripping of one of Hatton's titles? A new paper title-holder for Frank? On the other hand maybe the Amir Khan faction is wondering why they entrusted the hottest British sporting property into the hands of a man who is evidently taking his eyes of the ball and acting like some bird who got dumped and can't let go.
Warren and Hatton made a lot of money together. Warren put together some big shows, featuring 70 - 30 fights at the most, that sold on the back of Hatton's name. The shows were so quality filled that Sky jettisoned Warren and kept Hatton leading Warren into making the decision that 60 - 40, fights for the best part, are what keeps fans happy (50 - 50 ideally).
I see in his NOTW column Frank is lauding himself for making some competitive fights this month and last. I've just achieved my work tasks for this part of the day, I'm not about to get an ad celebrating myself for doing my job, Warren shouldn't either.
I like Warren, he seems pretty astute but he should bear in mind that we follow boxing to see the fighters do their thing; promoters making complete cocks of themselves in this way is just an added sideshow.
Very eliquently, written but inaccurate all the same. Bullit points;
1. Hatton sold tickets yes, 16k NO, the undercard sold all the tickets and yes it cannot be denied that Ricky was an attraction that helped their sales. However Calzaghe has sold over 14k at the MEN with the same or similar undercard whereas Hatton sold a measly 7k in Sheffield with a different one. Coincidence, or fact. Hatton never, ever acheceived 14k sales other than for Tszyu. 12k was his maximum against Magee who sold the difference himself.
2. SN do NOT have a policy to get rid of fighters who lose two consecutive fights. They have the option but it is not automatic. Michael Gomez, Takaloo, Danny Williams, Michael Sprott, Ojay Abrahams, Bruce Scott, Bradley Pryce, Neil Sinclair etc etc etc. If you have a car that keeps breaking down are you obliged to keep repairing it or would you like the option to get rid?
3. Sky did not get rid of FW, he got rid of them FACT. It is on record. In fact ask Sky, I am sure they will confirm. Do you think Sky are happy with their current crop, ask them that too. They are not happy and as a result are cutting down on their money and coverage, is that good for the sport?
4. It is Mbaye that is suing the WBA for not upholding his rights. In the same vein as Lewis did (Who I take it you all supported at the time) when Rahman, Bruno and McCall did the same to him. Mbaye has been stepped over by Judah, Maussa and now Hatton despite being # 1 contender for over a year. Is that right? If Tszyu had tried this to Ricky you lot would have been screaming about it so what is the difference, why can't her get his chance and make some money (Is it because, he is French, unattractive, Black, with FW or what?) Tszyu would have avoided Hatton if FW had not put up the cash to entice him to the UK and Hatton would still be fighting for the WBU title and waiting for a court case himself. And what did warren get for his millions in investment? Royaly fucked
by a greedy and disloyal father and son team who have made millions off him without a single penny investment.
5. Hatton selected all his opponents from a shortlist. He vetted every opponent for weeks before deciding and never, ever went for the hardest one on the list. He wanted the easiest fights out there. He did not want any part of Witter and even tried to avoid Dennis Holbaek Petersen! All will be revealed in the court case and your hero will have his bubble burst in public.

I definetly agree with regards to Witter. Witter's misfortunes cannot all be laid at the door of his promoters. He's never been a draw and has never had a large following. As is stated by chat, he's not exactly the name on everyone's lips right now is he? Despite being ranked in the top 5 by two of the sanctioning bodies, nobody is talking about fighting him.
It's bizzare how some fighters capture the public's imagination and others dont' A good example is his fight against N'dou, Witter looked excellent for the first few rounds, and was putting on quite a display, but by the end of the night was being booed and jeered by the crowd.
I couldn't comment on the Hatton figures, as I've not seen ticket allocations and receipts close up, but I suspect that if Hatton were not a major draw, then allegedly would not really be so upset about losing him.
I am however prepared to believe that the Hattons had final refusal on opponents, and from what I hear Ricky was well rewarded for his efforts. I have heard tell that the reason the Pinto fight fell through was that Hatton wanted more money
I also agree that without Warren he would have been extremely unlikely to have made as much money as he did for so many low risk fights, and to have gotten Tszyu on home turf and at the right time, which he did. After all Bernard Hopkins didn't come to fight Howard Eastman in Battersea.
I do not often agree with what Boxingchat says, but I have often said that when it comes to situations where there is a choice between laying blame at the feet of a promoter or a fighter, the promoter is usually the first choice. I remember the same thing with Naseem Hamed, when he split with Warren, it was acrimonious, but the fact was Hamed made a fornicating killing with SN and I don't think he would have made anywhere near as much otherwise.
With the plaudits come the brickbats and all that, but sometimes you've got to look beyond what might seem the obvious answer.

Boxchat. If you are privy to the attendance figures then the onus os on you to submit them, if not you might want to drop the claim to factual evidence as you leave us without recourse to checking the evidence and rebuffing your claims. I'll give it a bash anyway seeing as you've responded more politely to me than you do to others.
1: The undercard's sold tickets? So when Hatton boxed Aldo Rios it was the Junior Witter fight on the undercard that shifted a load of tickets? Or maybe they came in droves to watch Monteiro - McDonagh? On the Maghee bill Gomez and Farnell shifted some tickets as SN tried once again to sell the notion that Farnell (undoubtably a well respected guy) was a world-title calibre fighter; it turned out that night versus Groenwald he was not, like he said himself: "This shouldn't have happened to me in Manchester." Put a Gomez/Farnell bill together and see how it sells or would have sold. Ricky is the draw. You say you are privy to info on the ticket sales? Then show it to us. Lacy - Calzaghe seems to be attracting a decent crowd but in every gym I go in people are still trying to flog large amounts of tickets. Right now the buzz word on the ground in Manchester is Lacy. Bear in mind that ticket touts when trying to tout the Vliches card told me in despair that Ricky removed from the equation: "No one in Manchester wants to see this whingeing Welsh **** fight." Good job you got a few Manc's on this bill eh? Plus you also say Hatton never achieved the 14, 000 sales, aside from Tszyu. Facts are stats and can be blurred in this case. I doubt the atmosphere and numbers will be quite the same. Consider that Brodie sold less than Ricky when fighting for a better title with a pretty decent bill and he is gets far more love and respect than Joe. All this talk of sales makes me think of real factual evidence I've seen of Warren talknig aobut 6, 000 people paying to see one of his fighters win a title then after falling out with said fighter the figure falls to 2, 000 or less. It is very perplexing, I thought counting was an exact science.
2: There have been cases of Warren releasing prospects who lose a few times. The names you bring up? Very selective. Gomez lost two fights early in his career but guess what? He shifted tickets (the Holy Grail for all promoters big and small) off his own back so got a re-build that included a win over a debutant. Since then Gomez only recently lost two consecutive fights and he then retired. Takaloo lost twice recently to recurring SN name's and one of those was a big fight versus Alexander (a fight that took place two years too late BTW) so I imagine Takaloo as an engaging name and recognisable face will be kept on as a SN re-tread for their fighters. Danny Williams has never lost two consecutive fights to my knowledge nor has Neil Sinclair, wasn't Sprott managed by someone else when he lost two fights consecutive? If not Warren sending him to fight the big punching Sanders in South Africa hardly suggests that Sprott was a prospect does it. Ojay Abrahams is a test, a journeyman well-respected but also expected to lose fight after fight. Pryce is similar in that he was given to McDonagh and Jennings as a name on the record. I am not sure but I probably should have stated that SN does not allow it's prospects two losses, even learning fights, so consequently to preserve that "0" they get fairly straight forward fights for an awful long time. Although this approach did blow up in Gary Lockett's face. I'm sure I said prospects but if not apologise, although given your propensity for carefully guarded "stats" I'm sure you'll let that go.
3. Sky did not get rid of FW, he got rid of them FACT. It is on record. In fact ask Sky, I am sure they will confirm. Do you think Sky are happy with their current crop, ask them that too. They are not happy and as a result are cutting down on their money and coverage, is that good for the sport?
3: Another fact stated by you but didn't Sky get tired of 70 - 30 fights with a weak title masquerading as Saturday night fare? Didn't Sky begin to criticise Warren? Didn't Warren blow-up at Adam Smith for asking Ricky questions Frank did not like? When Smith asked Ricky if he'd go elsewhere for tougher/bigger fights Frank hit the roof and did not let Ricky answer, why is that? That indicates to me that Frank was pushed, again you have FACTS that you are not forthcoming with. I have only what I can surmise and that is the fact that Sky let Frank go and kept the fighter he still covets. Since Frank left Sky have put on pretty good fights that I've greatly enjoyed, more than I enjoyed the Warren bills.
Royaly fucked by a greedy and disloyal father and son team who have made millions off him without a single penny investment.
4: M'Baye is solo in suing the WBA? Well good to see a strong litigational figure in boxing but maybe he should have left that to his manager and concentrated on boxing. Warren is his manager right? Reports suggest that Frank is suing Ricky; again you are privy to more info than me. What will he get from this? A WBA champion who won his belt in court, fair enough but M'Baye is not a huge name, ironically Frank could end up with his own Vivian Harrisesque title-holder that no one wants to watch or fight. All in all it is a pretty sad state of affair. If Warren put all his dough into Ricky and made no money, well I'm losing my esteem for him as a promoter and business as he got taken to the cleaners by a fighter. C'mon, Frank made money from Ricky.
5: Hatton and the shortlist. The insinuation being that Warren was straining to let Ricky go at it and Hatton refrained? The same Warren who said that if he won't make a big fight for his guy unless he is sure to win. People still talk about Hatton here and say that he wanted it badly and is a soldier of a fighter. So he has taken his career to a place where he thinks he can get the tough fight that matters versus PBF. By taking out Maussa he left PBF no options at LW and if he beats Baldomir PBF has no options at W. I think PBF will beat Hatton but to my (untrained) eye it seems that Ricky is doing what is required to get the PBF fight, a fight he'd never have secured under Warren IMO.
All in all it is a bit sad this whole affair. Warren should eat what is on his plate with Amir. Plus if you are a paid attack dog, you really need to take a wage-cut

Boxchat a paid dog???.... I think he does it just out of love for frwank!...

Warren signed HAtton for the money?
Was Hatton a big name selling tickts when Warren signed him or was he just a good prospect fighting on undercards and bleeding on every one? a four or six round fighter with potential yes but not an instant star like Khan or Hamed say. But is was Warren who invested tens of thousands in him for no reward. Hatton never paid warren a penny in management money so it was not about purely money. Wouldn't you like 25% of him?
It was FW and SN who helped turn him into the star he is today. He didn't sell tickets when he started and there was no indication he would reach the heights he has so that is a dumb comment.
