Exactly what kind of experience is he gaining vs these bums?

The only time he boxed a half decent opponent he was on his ass.

Exactly, he is moving through the rankings too quickly imo and not being tested properly. St Clair was a good fight, he had to do 12 rounds at a decent pace and stay focused. Limond was a good boxer who taught him to keep his chin guarded, he got up, recovered and knocked him out. Everything else has been fairly wasteful. Too many rabbits in the headlights.

Where is the fellow youngster with ambition (see Murray v Fewkes)? Why hasn't he fought a Gary Reid type (will give it 100%, can bang, should be easy enough to outbox)? Why haven't they brought in some bigger less skilled fighters with an advantage in strength over him? Why hasn't he fought for the British title against a strong but beatable champion?

I don't think this chasing the ranking is doing Khan any real favours, he seems to value this 'youngest British world champion' far too highly when I don't think any fans really give a shit.

So in terms of opposition he is ok, fought some good fighters but would have liked to see him against a wider variety of styles and strengths (esp given how many good lightweights we have in Britain). But if he goes in against a Diaz, Casamayor or Campbell this year I think he may be in for a big shock.

Well not so far, that's for sure.

But if If "Team Khan" force Frank's hand in going for a title shot in 08, then I think yes, cause either Casa or Campbell would put a real dent in Khan - ok so he loses to real class, but it could be a real damaging defeat, confidence wise, if he's laid flat out.

David Diaz could be the last resort, he looks nothing too special, but he's had a load of fights, and been formed in a lot tougher career than Khan. Has to be the way to go, if FW keeps his promise of a 08 shot though

the answer is the same old scratched record. Because allegedly is scared of his cash cow getting knocked out.

Can you imagine if Gamboa or Solis were being put in repeatedly with these cotton fisted obscure Euro joker types with dodgy WBO 'rankings' and inflated records made up of fellow scrubs? They'd be laughed outta town!

Frankie has gotta be worrying that easy routes to a belt aren't just opening up for Khan in this division.

But they're a lot older (26 and 27) than Khan. They have much more experience.

I agree with Lenny that it would be nice to see Khan against a wider variety of styles.

I think Some people don't give him credit for what he has done..

I dont think he Being Rushed by Anyone, he is Rushing himself, seeing as he wanted to be the Youngest British World Champ Ever...

He is looking strong though, im afraid to say though, if he loses to a "not so Excellent" fighter, will be the death of British Boxing..

Amir Khan is still a Fresh Face in Boxing, Let him Mature a bit more and get some experience, he should be fine

British Boxing will have plenty of fresh faced potential superstars after Beijing my friend.

Amir Khan losing won't be the death of anything. Not even his career.
Would love to see him in against a banger, someone who he has to watch carefully for the whole fight.

Potential greats thrive in them sort of bouts, and all experienced such learning at an early stage.
Khan hasn't had that so far.

One thing they really need to do, is tone down the hype.
The ITV advert uses ALI as a comparison(the same Ali that whupped the reasonably :o heavy handed Sonny Liston at the grand old age of 22!!)

The only thing being rushed is his ranking - It will be interesting to see what they do with him once he has the vacant title win, I say vacant because that's the way I see him winning his title.

He is yet to fight half a dozen fighters of his own weight, and the fight after his next could well be a title fight.

It is a farce.

Nothing against Amir, I wish him the best, but the way he has been promoted not only by SN but by ITV, stinks.

It makes a huge difference. What most people deduce from Khan's opponents so far is that his handlers have (or just Frank Warren has) little confidence in his chin. If he had the experience they would have a better idea of where his strengths and weaknesses lie, plus he would have the experience to cope with most styles.

"if he had the experience", Frankie would still, umm, have little confidence in Khan's chin.

Yes, I think he's being rushed. Don't think Warren wants to rush him but with the hype and stuff they've said In the past, him and Khan would look like muppets.

Khan since the Limond fight hasn't changed much except for the pace which comes naturally when an amateur turns pro and keeping his hands up. He still gets tagged with straight rights.

He can't just rely on reflexes. He's a talent but he needs more work. He could of won the British and European by now too, only guys like Limond who gave him trouble and Romanov would trouble him on that scene. He's too explosive for the rest.

I think he will be if he wins tonight!

Eventually Khan will fight someone who can punch and then we will see what happens to him.

I think he believes he is better than he actually is, but if he starts fighting REAL FIGHTS then I will have more respect for him.

He has yet to prove anything to me, but he is improving!

Solis Is overrated, he still struggles against Journeymen Audley Ko'ed.

Gamboa Is a supernatural compared to Khan.

the point is they are prospects being matched with purpose.

anyway, its good to have a live fight on ITV, love these nights, even if they are crappy matches, as i usually slap some money down and make things interesting. i feel a betting thread coming on, whos having what?

I think the adage 20 for learning, 20 for earning applys to Khan. (although I'm sure he has pocketed a few bob along the way!)

it's easy to be critical of Khan because he has been learning his trade in the public eye and I think a lot of people are getting a bit jaded from the experience.

He is definitely a work in progress, and is moving in the right direction. Sure, he has had plenty to work on but you can see a marked improvement in many previous weaknesses.

I was surprised how he blew earl away and he has done everything asked of him. Is he being rushed? no not really, I think he has been masterfully handled by FW. Whatever you think of FW, he sure knows how to nurture talent and tip-toe the best route to the top.

His development is part of a big picture that will take him to the world stage to appeal to a mass-audience. A bit boring for the real boxing fans who see through the hand picking and risk management, but we have such as Fewkes/ Murray to feed on for our purist, traditionalist appetites.

Solis Is hardly being matched with tough opponents with purpose, Gamboa's the only one to look out for and has already won a title that will get him a top 10 ranking In the belts.

Solis only has a punch.

solis's last fight was against Cisse Salif- a tough, hard punching trial horse who gave david tua a hell of a fight and hung tough with a lot of good fighters.

Not bad for his 7th pro fight- the guy is clearly being moved along!

And by the way, the equivalent sort of fighter for Khan's 7th fight would be someone like Steve Quinonez. Can you imagine Frankie drafting Steve over for a tear up at this stage in Khan's career? Like fun you can!

I don't think Solis really bangs. His conditioning is bad. But the skills are nice. he skills and the timing and the use of ring space are what impresses. I enjoyed how he dealt with the longer reach of Julius Long and Cisse Salif. He put on a bit of a masterclass vs Salif, one of Toney's former sparring partners.

Needs to get in shape and soon, however or it'll all be for naught.

I still think the stoppage was a face saving exercise, Khan was knackered, imo - why they pulled Limond out was a disgrace in my book.

Amir was always 1 punch away from getting stopped.

Limond was retired on his stool.
