From what I've seen of Harrison in a recent interview, when he was supposedly training for his 'comeback' he is still unwilling to admit that he's an alcoholic and he was still trying to blame sections of the media for the bad press etc.... he'll never get better till he's willing to face some home truths... I've got some sympathy for the guy but really the ring is the last place he should be heading at the moment....

Silkov,
Harrison unlike some who have big problems had the opportunity of some fantasttic help - he turned that help down when as I state a lot of people have had to figure things out themselves.
That is why I am starting to have little sympathy for Scott.

My sympathy has wained somewhat too but at the same time I think his problems are deeper than just alcohol, I think he has some kind of mental illness to be honest... some people say he is just a no good pisshead, but would a sane person really trash their career in the way Harrison has.... some people just cant help themselves unfortunately, especially if they are ill...

Really. I mean, seriously, really. That's a hell of a sacrifice.
A pity, I'd like to see Harrison v Gomez at 135 pounds.

In the ring where he belongs??? I can think of a few places where he belongs but a ring isnt one of them!!
As for the petition, do you really think you can enforce it? Do you really think Simon Block will resign? How many license holders have signed this petition? Cos it dont really mean nought, hope you do realise that?
AND if by some miracle Harrison gets his license back, who will pay to see him? I WON'T, so whats the point of wasting your time. There are a plenty of WORTHY causes out there, focus on one of them where you can really make a difference.

Enough alcohol and mental stability dissapears. With the right help and the determination to get better you can get your health and life back. Not sure Harrison has enough of what it takes to kick his habits for good. A bit of a Hank Williams type of person.

Crazy to think he would possibly get back when he gets arrested for drink driving.
The press also said there was a 15 year old girl in the car with him, thereby implying something unpleasent while not making any accusations that could land them in trouble.
Scott is, unfortunately, nowhere near ready to come back.

Nope - sorry Dude - not signing!!!
I have met Scott and his dad - he was a great guy as we stayed in the Lennox Lewis College prior to the Lewis/Botha show - I thought at the time you could not meet a nicer individual.
However there is a clear audit trail of problems - and just because the BBBofc were not immediate in their return of the licence - is not an excuse to sink back into those problems.
Scott should have wanted to rid himself of whatever problems he had whether they were drink, drugs, fighting or whatever - he should have wanted to put himself on the right path with or without the help of boxing.
But it is not a one way deal and Scott must have realised he did not have all the bargaining tools -
His attitude should have been - even if I do not get my licence back I am going to prove to myself just as importantly my family I genuinally mean I am going on the right path in life despite the outside influences.
It appears Scott has not got his way and used that as a rather empty exscuse to sink back into old ways.
Perhaps I am being too hard on the lad.
I hope, Spud, that you never have to experience an addiction or mental illness, which in truth are both the same thing.
Some people, no matter HOW much they want to, can change their behaviour.

That makes a whole lot of sense. Take away the only thing that could possibly help a man out of the hole he's dug.
It might not mean a thing, I signed a petition to legalise hash once, hundreds of thousands of signatures, came to nothing. There's lost causes and lost causes, I guess.
I hate the booze culture in this country, I hate pissheads, I hate mindless, abusive assholes ... but I wouldn't throw away a world champion on a principle.

For Fack sake the guy is a EX proffesional boxer who gets pissed swans around with the i am hard attitude been known to bash people could'nt give a fack for the law , take away is liscence , never mind that they should lock him up , 12 months in jail will soon get rid of his drink problem won't it.
And for all the bleeding hearts who say its not his fauly he has a mental problem , well fine forget jail put him in a facking mental home, The drunken yobbo mentality is a problem no one likes it or condones it , but when its a boxer a lot seem to think he should be given chance after chance fack him 12 months he should get for his next problem with the law and mark my words it won't be long cos he thinks he's above it .
Mental home or jail who cares

Not signing, not saying I don't have some sympathy with Scott.... but I trust the BBBoC have his best interests at heart.
Just like when the BBBoC didn't re-license Bruno, it was for eye damage - they had his best interests at heart. Scott equally isn't a well person.

Surely the point people are making is that is Harrison should be putting all his efforts into changing his behaviour whatever it takes not resuming his old career. If someone can't keep their job for these sort of reasons it's usual for them to be expected to sort themselves out rather than have the management turn a blind eye and let things carry on with the hope that the problems will just disappear again.
Boxing is obviously not the cure as it because it didn't prevent things coming to this.

Hello Dude!!!
There you go again - making assumptions without knowing me - Rhino will tell you I sailed very close to the line with regards to gambling mate and I mean very close to the line.
In addition with regards to the Mental Illness side of things - unfortunately my mother has been sectioned under the mental health act on a number of occasions when I was a teenager and whilst I was still in the army - it is due to that illness I had to come to the very sad decision for the benefit of my wife and son of not seeing her again after years and years of struggle trying coming to terms of what she was like - I will not bore you or the forum with the details.
So unfortunately you are wrong - with regards to the additiction side mate - I am a gambler and a shit one at that - the only decision I had to make was not to gamble again - I gave up for 2 years did not put a penny in a fruit machine or a bet in the bookies for 2 years - had a relapse this year and my last bet was £20 on the winner of the National this year - had to make a decision for the sake of me and the family not to gamble again - so trust me when you are addicted to something I know how bloody hard it is not relapsing - but I remain convinced if you really want to do something you can and without the help of a doctor or these organised groups as well.
Don't make presumptions mate - there are very few people in this world who know me properly.
So with regards to Scott Harrison there are the likes of myself and many thousands of others who know what it is like to be an addict - it is not funny and it is bloody hard not to relapse into the old ways - for me I was weirdly convinced that I would win thousands - on a number of occasions I actually did - and then the madness kicked in because I gave it back in losing bets.
So in short there is one person that can sort out Scott Harrison and thats him - but despite all the caring and all the advice etc etc he has got to want to do it - and until he overcomes that MASSIVE hurdle he will drop himself more and more in the sh*t.
