Possibly, but he's very soft at Light Welter. He could get down to 126/130 if he was willing to put the effort in.

I've totally given up hope on getting Romanov in the near future. WAS HE EVER APPROACHED FOR A FIGHT WITH KHAN WHEN WARREN MENTIONED IT AS A POSSIBLE?

Plenty of mention of WBO eliminators when the fight with Kritjansen was made, but are they going to fight #1 Peterson?

btw, Romanov is still rated below Kritjansen after their last fights. Would love to hear the WBO ratings committee explain that one.

If it's Rees the fight would be at Lightweight. Khan's next fight will be at Lightweight.

But for the time being lets deal with the short list:

Rees - Far too small and does not have the boxing skills to even get close to Khan - however he has a massive heart and would make Khan box for however long the bout lasted - that would be down to the pressure he simply would have to put on Khan to even make it look like a contest.

Burns - don't why but out of the 3 this guy really interests me - had a couple of discussions about him on the dog and bone today I initally thought he would make a contest out of things until one wise old fox simply said Khan would walk right through him.

Gomez - I love the hype that surrounds boxing - I also like to a degree the trashy b*llocks that goes on sometimes - it would be hilarious if Gomez is declared the opponent - he would get right up the nose of Khan from the press conference to the weigh in - to the ring walk and before the first bell rings - it would be interesting to see how Khan handled all of that b*llocks - but unfortunately for me - if Gomez is the opponent thats where it all ends.

Just to add - July is going to be very interesting - Khan will declare his new trainer - which for me is already a done deal and also his promoter - he should in my book pick Mr W arren - but will greed take over?? ... will ITV offer Mr Hennessy or another promoter enough dosh in a contract to entice Khan to stay on terrestrial tv??

I pray to God it's not Gomez - that would rank among the most sickening mismatches I've ever seen and it would surely be impossible for anyone to justify. Khan would blow the current version of Gomez away in a couple of rounds and it wouldn't even be close to being competitive.

Touble is, Gomez has the back story (born in a car, street scrapper), the look (has anyone ever looked more like a fighter?), the following (sombrero wearing mancs) and the personality (the staredowns and intimidating glare) to sell this fight to the public.

If SN do try and run with this fight they should be ashamed of themselves.

I just hope its a nasty, unfounded rumour.

Bang on Terry - there's no doubt Gomez would look the part, but the whole thing would just bring back bad memories of the Breland - Honeyghan fiasco.

Chambers, no disrespect mate, but if you honestly think Gomez can make it interesting in the early rounds you're in fantasy land. I honestly think Khan would stop him in the first or second. Gomez is shot, and will have major disadvantages in just about every department - size, speed etc.
Such a match does nothing to progress Khan and will result in the humiliation of a proud warrior in Gomez. Just the thought leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.
