I think hatton carries himself far worse, to talk about not wanting another fighter to have any money is just not very honerable. He seems like an arrogent scally.

Witter has taken every oppertunity he was given to take on the best fighters and that inculded taking on Judah at 2 weeks notice... Hatton has had it easy throughout his carrer and the only time he didn't have the built in advantages he lost!
I agree on Witter apart from 1 thing - he turned down a short notice fight with Cotto at light welter.

I wanted to see Bowe vs Lewis - that was the biggest fight in boxing for the last 20 years and it didn't happen!

Charlie Magri vs Keith Wallace didn't happen either!

Tony Sibson vs Herol Graham - didn't happen!

South Korea had the 3 belts in the light flyweight division in 1988-89 and two of those champions who defended their WBA and WBC titles about 20 times each (Jung Koo Chang and Myung Woo Yuh) didn't fight each other!
Why? Who knows!

I know the reason the Witter-Hatton fight isn't happening is because Hatton has 2 fights left, he is not going to boil himself down to 140 to fight Witter for chump change! To think that he would is showing the signs of a deluded fantasist!

Hatton has already said that this fight with Lazcano is a 'thank you' to his fans which translates to me as a goodbye present.

I have to agree with you on that.
  • Hatton will suffer his 2nd defeat (against Mayweather) and quit rather than fight Witter who would make it three!!!

I would think Witter learned by fighting Judah at short notice. You would need all the time you could get in preparation for Cotto and you would still have to make Witter the underdog.[/list]

I'm not saying Witter wouldn't be a good fight - but it is easy to see why
Hatton can easily sidestep Witter and for it not to affect his legacy.

They will, it'll always come up. especially if Witter lands a name in the future and win or lose, makes a decent scrap of it. Also Hatton's best wins to date are easy to nitpick holes in: Tzsyu was ridiculously inactive, 35 I think and the reffing in the fight was quite dodgey, Castillo is a lightweight and shot (and it showed), Collazo got a kicking from Mosely. Hatton isn't going down as one of the best ever, not with what he's done so far. I think if he's concerned about legacy then he needs to forget losing to Mayweather again and really clean out the lightwelterweights, beat Witter, Malignaggi, N'dou, Ngoudjo even Kotelnik. If he did that in a fairly short period say two or three years he'd have a much better standing. Look at Mayweather, all American fans want is for him to fight Cotto and Margarito, not rematches with Delahoya and Hatton. Fights like that are jus cash spinners and everybody knows it and if he goes that route it'll come back and bite his 'legacy' (hate that term) in the arse.
It depends what he wants though, glory or cash, he already wasted too long in the wbu playground.

Carlos, I'd have no problems in Hatton fighting Lazcano, if he'd agreed to fight Witter in one of his forthcoming fights, but he's supposedly lined up the non-punching New Yorkan next (at 140, so the weight making problems aren't an issue )and then Pacquiao or PBF in a pointless rematch, whilst all the time coming out with the most feeblest of excuses for not fighting his countryman in the fight the British fans want to see. The Hatton-Witter fight is massive especially over here, far BIGGER than the Mallignaggi and Lazcano fights

It's ridiculous that you say that Hattons legacy won't be affected by him not fighting Witter, it will do in Britain! especially by people who know and write about the sport. Not that Hatton could give a fcuk he's in the game solely for the £$£$£$£'s.

Hattons legacy will be affected by him not fighting Witter IMO, maybe not as much as I'd like it to be, but it has to be affected

Chambers! The fight doesn't matter! Witter isn't the best 140lber in the world and Hatton has already fought the best fighter in boxing today! Thats what people will remember and use as a gauge even if he KO'd Witter in a round tomorrow morning. Hatton has gone past the domestic scene and his mind and the money are with bigger fights - which are in the states -the yanks know about Lazcano! How many people know about Witter in this country (apart from us lot and Bob Mee! :TU: )

The Hatton-Witter fight is massive especially over here, far BIGGER than the Mallignaggi and Lazcano fights
Its not massive on a worldwide scale, nobody is clamouring for this fight anywhere else on the planet apart from here - start a thread up in current scene and see how many interested parties you attract!

Course he is in it for the bloody money, how ridiculous! beating Witter will not bring any prestige outside these islands! You care of course and I know why you care but you don't seem to understand why Melvin Cheesburger IV out in Idaho doesn't care - and wherever you like it or not - they are the punters who pay and say on Hattons career from now on! They want to see Hatton in with their fighters and not some awkward style Brit they have never heard of and wouldn't pay to see if it cost 50 cents - and thats the truth of the matter!
Hattons legacy will be affected by him not fighting Witter IMO, maybe not as much as I'd like it to be, but it has to be affected.
It will be with a certain section of British boxing fans who know the score but that number isn't enough for Hatton to give a monkeys. I accept that the best fights when both fighters are in their prome seldom get made. It is not many times I read someone bringng up on here how McGuigan ducked Azumah Nelson for exactly the same reasons Haton is ducking Witter - but who cares 20 years down the line about that? No-one! People remember what a fighter did than what he didn't do!

Exactly! You have cemented my point! You don't care because you aren't Korean and the worlds boxing fans (and especially the ones of the septic persuasion) do not care about Hatton vs Witter! It is of little to no interest to them.

I know why you want this fight made but you must realise that no-one is arsed about it not happening apart from us lot. Most boxing fans don't see Witter as anything other than a tricky customer and thats not enough to get the fight made.

Carlos, I'm a British Boxing fan I ain't overly cared what the rest of the World thinks about the fight, it's the best fight for British Boxing! Hatton is a Brit and IMO should be trying to please the British fans not the Melvin Cheeseburgers from Maine, it's the British fans who have followed him in their droves to the MEN and to Vegas, why is he giving the US fans all the say-so. $£$£$$£$£$£'s is the answer. It's the British fans that have opened the doors and gave Hatton the opportunites be silverspoon fed and to land fights such as PBF and Kostya Tszyu, it was the British fans who he is constantly showering with praise and -£14.99 gifts :-?

You know as well as the rest of us that Hatton-Witter has far surpassed a domestic battle, they're the 2 best 140lbers in the world as well as Britain.

I really don't understand how any British Boxing fan can argue that Hatton is correct in Ducking Junior and Ducking the BIGGEST fight in British Boxing. I can see why Ricky and his promo team don't fancy the fight, but I can't see why a fan would argue his case.

There are far more people clamouring for Hatton-Witter than Hatton-Mallignaggi, but Hatton has targeted him because he knows he stands a far better chance of beating him than he does of beating Witter. It's the worst example of Ducking that the sport has seen and hopefully Witter will enlight the ITV1 viewers in his Victory speech on Saturday
It will be with a certain section of British boxing fans who know the score but that number isn't enough for Hatton to give a monkeys.
I'm fully aware that 'Money Hatton' doesn't give a monkeys what the fans think, else he'd have stepped up to the Junior Witter plate. Time Will Tell how he's remembered, if Junior Witter can have an Indian Summer to his career and increases his profile over here, as he will do on Saturday, then it will reflect on the Hatton-Witter situation in time to come.

PEACE :D :TU:

bennie wrote:Junior Witter defends his prestigious WBC light-welterweight title against American Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley, the mandatory, on Saturday in Nottingham.
Witter comes off a stunning knockout of respected Vivian Harris (Bradley's promotional stablemate in the Gary Shaw camp) in Doncaster in September to remind everyone what an underrated champion he is, especially in the States, where Harris enjoys(ed) a sizeable reputation. Witter bamboozled the Brooklyn man in the early rounds in typical Wincobank fashion, before finishing him with a big left hook in the seventh. It reignited calls for a Battle of Britain between Witter and Ricky Hatton, but the Manchester Hitman, who fights a battle-worn Mexican later this month, insists it will never happen.
"Witter has made a career for himself on slagging me off," said Hatton, frequently labelled a "coward" by his rival. "When someone slags you off, you don't repay them by giving them their best payday."
More recently Hatton revealed: "I was half-contemplating fighting him but it all changed at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards last year in Birmingham. They got me up, Joe Calzaghe, Enzo Maccarinelli, Clinton Woods and Witter. We all walked to the stage and I shook hands with them all. Witter leaned over to me and whispered 'One day.' I just thought, 'You’ve just peed that up against the wall there.' I really was thinking about getting in the ring with him."
Countered Witter: "It's got to be the worst excuse Hatton has come up with yet, and there have been plenty of them, but what I said obviously made a lasting impression."
Maybe the real truth is, Witter is just too good for his own good. Currently on a winning run of 21 (17 early), the quick, slick, heavy-handed Bradford switch-hitter has lost only to brash Zab Judah in 39 outings in a short-notice stab at the IBF title back in 2000 and holds a win over current WBA light-welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik. He won the WBC title, the biggest in boxing, by hurting and outscoring slick American southpaw DeMarcus Corley in September 2006 but has defended just twice in the 20 months since: taking out Mexican Arturo Morua in nine rounds and the established Harris, both last year (when Hatton cashed in against Mayweather). He was due to defend against Philadelphia's Demetrius Hopkins in California in March but Hopkins, nephew of prickly Bernard, fancied it about as much as Hatton and made his excuses. NOBODY is queuing to take on this guy (shades of Carl Froch on the same bill). Clearly, Witter deserves a big fight but settles for the unheralded but unbeaten Bradley, of Palm Springs in California, an aggressive, muscular, two-fisted crowdpleaser who has done nothing wrong in his career to date but turned pro less than four years ago, was still boxing eight-rounders up to last year, remains untested and has never fought outside California.
He holds something called the WBC Youth light-welterweight title.
Ironically, Bradley was due to step up against Mexico's Jose Luis Castillo in a 12-rounder (his first) earlier this year in Mexico but Castillo, yet again, came in overweight and the fight was scrapped.
"It hurts the sport bad, and something needs to be done to Castillo," said Bradley. "He needs to be suspended. He needs to vanish from boxing. We don't need to see his name in the ratings."
WBC president Jose Sulaiman consoled Bradley with the No. 1 slot to Witter, guaranteeing him this shot, but the American hasn't necessarily earned pole position and surprise, surprise has strong Mexican connections (Sulaiman is Mexican and horribly pro-Mexican). Bradley is trained by Joel Diaz, a former world title challenger and brother of former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz.
Anyway, back directly to the challenger. The 24-year-old Bradley turned pro in August 2004 (Witter, in January 1997) and has raced to 21 wins as he works away feverishly to head and body. He scored a useful win over Mexico's previously unbeaten Miguel Vazquez last time out (a lopsided 10-round decision) and comprehensively outscored Denver's decent Donald Camarena in another 10-rounder before that. That's about it as far as 'name' opponents go and thanks to Castillo (or no thanks) Bradley has been out since last July.
Yes it's hard to judge the worth of an unbeaten fighter, but Bradley does look made for the tricky, counterpunching Witter: he's stocky, aggressive, not a great puncher, willing to take one to land one, a bit rusty and facing his toughest test and his first 12-rounder a long, long way from sunny California.
Still, to counter all that, the American is 10 years younger than the the 34-year-old champion and a strong, hardworking, improving light-welterweight capable of negating an opponent's work and, potentially at least, one of those dark horses. He looks in fantastic shape.
But the American's lack of top-level experience favours the champion. If Witter can beat Harris, he can beat Bradley.

Prime for prime its a tough call, Casa is horribly underrated and avoided. Arguably won every single 1 of his fights and that includes Corrales (3times), Castillo, Kid Diamond, Freitas, nate Campbell and now Katsidis.

How would Hatton do against a Prime Casa if Hatton was a natural 130lb fighter? Casa is a sneaky trickster with speed, skill and excellent counters. Hatton probably beats the old version. Interestingly Casa won his last fight by a check hook himself

casa's been a very good fighter in his time.

no question.

he's clinging on a bit these days.

but in his super featherweight prime he was a very handy fighter.

i think hatton-casa would be a virtual wipeout for hatton now.

u get worse Dennis.

Can someone explai to me what KT did that made him so great ( apaft from getting knocked out by Philipis).

Casa is more SKILLED than KT.

Casa's very good but he lost his super feather unification because despite holding his own with everyone he loses points for fouling and starts slow. He made up for it at lightweight by nudging ahead of Corrales 2-1. I don't buy that he won all his fights, but I do think he has been unlucky. Casa has beaten young contenders Katsidis and - way back - Campbell but has that lucky win over Santa Cruz.

Tszyu does have 2 stoppage losses but he dominated a weight class, stopped prime versions of Judah and Mitchell, beat Mitchell in a rematch ruthlessly, made lots of title defences and proved himself a certain hall of famer. Casa is only just doing enough to get recognition as a great. Tszyu did years ago and is a more dominant fighter.

Both are 2 of my fave boxers though.

Chambers2 wrote:Carlos, I'm a British Boxing fan I ain't overly cared what the rest of the World thinks about the fight, it's the best fight for British Boxing!

I am with you completely Stuart, on this. If Witter does do well on ITV I think even more people will be calling for Hatton/Witter to take place. The fight is going out on American TV so if Witter shines there will be American interest in the fight. Lets hope so and hopefully Hatton will find it even harder to wriggle off the hook and find excuses.

always hated his arrogance tbh.

the way he carries himself.

obviously i'd like to see hatton take on witter and give him his beating.

but a part of me finds it funny that he's getting left out in the cold.

keep him suffering on the fringes.
I think hatton carries himself far worse, to talk about not wanting another fighter to have any money is just not very honerable. He seems like an arrogent scally.

Witter has taken every oppertunity he was given to take on the best fighters and that inculded taking on Judah at 2 weeks notice... Hatton has had it easy throughout his carrer and the only time he didn't have the built in advantages he lost!
it's about respect josh.

like witter getting on the apron after the thaxton fight and giving it all that "i will destroy u" crap.

if he stayed quiet and did a bit more talking in the ring perhaps he would have gotten his chance.

he had opportunities to earn his shot with rick many times. phillips undercard against that belgium kid. american tv in town and he fights like that. pinto fight and he pulled out.
Stop talking rubbish kid, Have you forgot what Hatton did to Mayweather? All the trash talk he did? he certainly did not give mayweather any respect, considering Mayweather is 100X a Better Boxer that hatton is.

Face it, Hatton is a Fraud.

A good Boxer, but nothing special
