Ponce De Leon-Lopez

It was almost effortless from JML. He looks slow and too casual in there but he throws sharp, surprising punches. He looks sloppy and ungainly in his stance, but he picks his shots extremely well. The way he used the lead right hook was excellent.

Hopefully Lopez doesn't become power obsessed. Because it's using his smarts that helps him pick the right shot for the right time. Strange fighter is Lopez - there's a bit of Pacquiao in his (southpaw power, a slight crudeness) and a bit of Miguel Cotto (economical with punches, calm, at times methodical). I wasn't sure what to make of him before but what he did to de Leon was startling.

I wonder how he would cope under the pressure of Vazquez. Lopez is in one of the best divisions - even the secondary world champs look on the verge of being elite fighters (Molitor, Caballero) and Vazquez & Marquez are both destined for the Hall of Fame.

Lopez is a strange one who has blown hot and cold but really hit the mark. De Leon has always been technically limited but his big punch and Las Vegas judges have always seen him through. Don't forget he won a virtual shutout over Penalosa after getting picked off time and again all night. Same with Escobedo who counter punched him to a clear win but again Ponce got out of jail because the judges prefer his rumbling forward aggression rather than a backfoot boxer who lands punches.

It did not matter here, Lopez took it out of their hands!!

Lopez reminds me a lot of Cotto (obviously though since they probably train together)..but I mean the way he looks like he goes into slow motion when he's moving, then he just flies into action.

Clever southpaw...defo a future top champion (providing he's not chinny)

Maybe it's a Puerto Rican thing, the way Lopez and Cotto have to make themselves look so laid back in there, before unleashing intense punches.
